EMERSON, GA - The best uncommitted event in the country kicks off this week with Future Games Week at LakePoint in Georgia. Teams from across the country will be showcasing their skills in front of college coaches from across the country.
The Team SoCal squad is composed of players from the southern portion of California. To begin the week, the players underwent a pro-style showcase workout with athletic testing captured via VALD for the 60-yard sprint test and jump testing. Offensively, the players utilized Blast Motion for swing metrics and Trackmand Technologies for batted ball data. They will begin their competitive slate on Thursday evening against North Texas.

Orion Gonzalez 2B / RHP / Castaic High, CA / 2028The silky smooth and explosive LH hitter out of the Santa Clarita area made his presence known quickly during the workout portion of the 2026 Future Games. Opening the day, he ran a sound 7.2 60-yard sprint with 19.0 MPH of max run speed that profiles to give him the athletic ability to handle multiple INF spots, which is backed up by his actions during the defensive workout showing smooth actions, body control, and silky confidence in his glove and arm. While his athletic ability and defensive actions are enough to intrigue, it's what Gonzalez continues to do during batting practice from the LH side with explosive bat speed that averaged over 76 MPH throughout his rounds on Blast while peaking north of 80 MPH at the max, which translates quickly into loud power during BP which has shown over multiple events and yet again was on display during Future Games BP. It was an emphatic opening to his rounds when he crushed three straight blasts into the pavilion over the RCF fence, peaking at north of 103 MPH again on his max EV with a 399' max distance and a 100% hard hit rate while averaging 98.4 MPH of EV throughout his rounds. Gonzalez will be a must-see at the plate during the next three days of the event while also being slated to showcase his upper 80's to 90+ MPH FB later in the event on the mound. |

Quinn Melton 1B / C / San Marcos Senior High, CA / 2028Melton is another LH impact bat who has a track record of doing damage for our staff during batting practice and live looks, and yet again his performance at the plate was one of note. He obliterated multiple deep drives throughout his rounds of batting practice, including a max EV of 104.2 MPH on a ball that traveled 410' and nearly cleared the Publix Pavilion beyond the RCF at LakePoint Field 15. The LH hitter averaged just a tick under the 93 MPH range over his full rounds, and 78% of his contact was in the fly ball range that plays to a true power profile, but with a hit tool rapidly on the rise, the profile Melton is one that should draw plenty of eyes each time he steps to the plate in Georgia. But those eyes should pay close attention to the development of his defensive work behind the plate with low 1.9 pop times that lived below 2.0 during his defensive workout; the upside of a LH-hitting catcher who could slot easily into the middle of a lineup is one that has plenty of intrigue. |

Kensen Johnson SS / OF / Bonita Vista Senior High, CA / 2028Johnson makes a case for the most dynamic and highest-ceiling profile of any player on the SoCal roster and the 6'4 181.7 lbs. Johnson showed just why during his workout at the Prep Baseball Future Games. Oozing loud tools in spades, he posted a 6.98 60-yard run time and 90+ MPH INF arm velocity that will give him the athleticism and arm tool to play the left side of the INF with an impact profile, while showing the actions in how he moves into and through ground balls back that potential up. But as good as what Kensen does on the athletic side and defensive side, it's the ease with which he launches baseballs from an explosive swing that peaks north of 80+ MPH on bat speed while averaging close to 77 MPH of bat speed on his swings over each round of batting practice. Johnson unloaded on a max EV of 103.6 MPH while lofting balls with ease to his pull side, averaging 92.6 MPH over his rounds of batting practice with a 67% hard hit rate and 75% of his contact being in the air. There is plenty to love about Johnson now, but the future upside to him should have coaches following him closely. |

Zion Avina SS / 2B / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2028Zion may not jump off the page when he walks onto a baseball field with a medium height and solid build, but make no mistake, the tools the OLU SS possesses rival or exceed any player on the SoCal roster or amongst all Future Gamers in attendance. His 6.95 60 was amongst the better ones in attendance while moving with body control into ground balls, sure hands, clean transfers, and easy accuracy to the throws that give plenty of reason to expect him to stick at SS long term, but will comfortably handle any spot on the dirt should he need to move off the spot in the future. Avina is a pure hitter who shows real impact potential from a swing that is consistently in the 70+ MPH bat speed range and finds the barrel with 100.8 MPH max EV and a 94.1 MPH avg EV during batting practice. The RH hitter reached 349' feet on his max distance, showing his ability to drill leveraged contact to the big part of the field while posting an 85% hard hit rate (90+ MPH) over his rounds of batting practice. The totality of Avina presents as a well-rounded player with strong tools and should make him a player that coaches are closely following over the coming three games in Georgia. |

Dru Wilson OF / RHP / Notre Dame, CA / 2028Wilson easily rivals Johnson as the highest-ceiling and most dynamic player in attendance for the SoCal roster. With a 6.67 60-yard time that has burst off the line and the ability to build/maintain his highest-end speed, Wilson is an impact-profile defender in CF, but adds a top-end throwing arm which reached 97 MPH from the OF, showing low carry out of the hand that will make it a long-term impact tool for him on the defensive side of the game. While athleticism and impact defense at a premium spot is enough to get anyone intrigued, add in a RH swing that has intent with explosive bat speed that goes north of 80 MPH at the peak while averaging over 76 MPH across all his swings, the offensive tool for Wilson is equally enticing. Wilson reaches higher-end EVs with consistency, including a 100+ MPH max EV on the day while averaging 95.4 MPH of EV with a line-drive-based swing that wore out the gaps over his rounds of batting practice. 80% of his contact was in the hard-hit range while 60% of that contact was in the air. With impact defense, high-end athleticism, dynamic bat speed, and top-of-the-order offensive ability, the RH-hitting Wilson will garner plenty of focus from college coaches, and for good measure, he will bring his low to mid 90's FB to the mound later in the week for SoCal. |
