On Monday, July 6th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the White Sox Elite Scout Day at Lee Pfund Field in Carol Stream, IL. Nearly 30 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.

Today, we will be providing our scouting takeaways on some of the event's top performers.

QUICK HITS

+ INF Blake Snyder (Wheaton Warrenville South, 2027) was one of the bigger winners from the event all-around. Currently uncommitted, and presenting an athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame, he began the event by running the fastest 60 time on the day at 6.70. Offensively, the right-handed hitter was on the barrel repeatedly, averaging 91 mph off the bat (T98.4 mph) with a max batted distance of 328 feet. He showed quality actions on the dirt as well paired with an accurate arm across the diamond.

+ INF Tucker Lawler (Benet Academy, 2028) was a right-handed bat who swung it well in front of our staff. A wiry, 6-foot, 180-pound infielder with room for added strength, he showed a flatter bat path with line drive intent. Lawler averaged 90 mph off the bat, with a peak EV of 94.5 mph.

+ OF Hawke Lawler (Benet Academy, 2028) is another right-handed hitter who was all over the barrel at the event, leading the event in multiple categories; max EV (103 mph), average EV (96.6 mph), and max batted distance (384 feet). Lawler also ran the fourth-fastest 60 at 6.89 and tossed the second-firmest bullet from the outfield at 83 mph while presenting a wiry 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame.

+ C Shaoyang Song (Benet Academy, 2028) is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound backstop to know from the event. The right-handed hitter showed serious pop at times, posting a max batted distance of 368 feet (third-highest for event) while averaging 94 mph off the bat (T97.3 mph). Defensively, he also showed reliable transfers - posting a 2.11-2.18 pop time range.

+ OF Johann Lasn (York, 2028) is a physical 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect that flashed above-average tools across the board. He ran a 6.73 60 (second-fastest for event), maxed out at 85 mph from the outfield (firmest for event), and showed serious thump from the right side with an average EV of 91 mph (T100 mph) paired with a max batted distance of 378 feet (second-furthest for event).

+ 1B Nolan Gagliano (Wheaton North, 2027) is a physical 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed hitter to know from the event. He started his event by running a 6.97 60 (fourth-fastest for event), and was on the barrel during BP. He posted a peak EV of 99.4 mph (fourth-best for event) and an average EV of 91 mph. He also showed comfortable actions at first base defensively with the potential to stick there at the next level.

+ 1B/RHP Quin Feltes (St. Rita, 2028) had a quality two-way showing on the day. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed hitter showed an easy and loose swing, peaking at 91 mph off the bat with a max distance of 313 feet. On the mound, the righty worked up to 83 mph with his fastball and complemented it with a 67-71 mph curveball that played with over 11 inches of horizontal movement on average.

+ RHP Nicky Kohlmeyer (Benet Academy, 2028) was a big winner on the mound for our staff. An athletic mover downhill at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, he worked his fastball up to 89 mph, while sitting 86-89 throughout his ‘pen. His slider played sharp at 75-78 mph with over 13 inches of horizontal movement on average, paired with a 73-75 mph curveball that showed depth (avg. -8.1” IVB). A name to continue to follow throughout the summer circuit.

+ LHP Sawyer Smith (Glenbard West, 2028) continued to impress our staff, after emerging at a Prep Baseball Tournament earlier this summer. A loose and clean mover from the left side, he worked his fastball in the low-80’s while topping out at 87 mph with an average of 18 inches of horizontal movement. He also tossed in a slider at 74-75 mph and showed a changeup at 75-77 mph (avg. -15” HM).
