PREP BASEBALL ILLINOIS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: HISTORY
Since the inception of Prep Baseball in 2005, we've released a Player of the Year every year in the state of Illinois, beginning with RHP Michael Bowden (Waubonsie Valley, 2005), and most recently C Quinn Schambow (Libertyville, 2025).
Below is the complete list of Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Year's since 2005, and we will contiune to keep a list as we continue to announce the award each year.

Cole Kmet LHP / OF / St. Viator, IL / 20172017 WINNER "The St. Viator slugger reached base in 73 of his 145 plate appearances this spring, batting .443 with 12 home runs, 18 doubles, 46 RBI and a .918 slugging percentage. Equally as impressive on the mound, the hard-throwing left-handed pitcher struck out 105 batters in 62.1 innings, compiling an 8-3 record with a 2.02 ERA." |

Bryan Hudson LHP / 1B / Alton , IL / 20152015 WINNER "The talented southpaw went 10-2 this season with a 0.47 ERA and 150 strikeouts in 70.1 innings pitched, video game type numbers. Hudson also did damage at the plate, leading the Redbirds in batting average (.436), doubles (14), triples (six), home runs (four), and RBI (49). Hudson threw one no-hitter, three one-hitters, and three two-hitters as double digit strikeout performances became the norm this spring when he took the mound. He finished ranked No. 2 in the final PBR Player Rankings in Illinois' 2015 class, and No. 21 overall. He was the first Illinois prep player off the board in this year's draft." |

Jake Latz LHP / Lemont, IL / 20142014 WINNER "The LSU recruit finished his three-year varsity career with a 10-0 record, one save and a 0.23 ERA. And he did so against top-level competition. His record included wins over top 25-ranked opponents Mount Carmel, Sandburg, Lincoln-Way West (twice), Brother Rice and Sacred Heart-Griffin. In 62.1 innings, Latz struck out 114 and walked only 12. He allowed only two earned runs and 29 hits all season, and finished with a 0.66 WHIP." |

Ryne Roper SS / RHP / Harrisburg, IL / 20132013 WINNER "Roper’s experience in his first three years of varsity baseball culminated with an outstanding senior campaign in which he went 11-0 with a 0.41 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 68 innings. He also allowed just 30 hits and walked only eight batters. At one point during the season he had pitched seven consecutive shutouts and added a perfect game as well as a no-hitter." |

Zack Weigel OF / LHP-1B / Oak Park River Forest, IL / 20122012 WINNER "Across the board, Weigel helped the Huskies finish their dream season at 30-9-1. Offensively, he led the Huskies in nearly every category. He batted .431 with 14 doubles, five home runs and one triple. He drove in 41 runs, scored 43 and tallied 47 hits while striking out only four times all season. On the mound, Weigel anchored the staff by going 7-1 with a 1.71 ERA. The left-hander used his four-pitch mix to strike out 61 and walk 19 in 52 innings. His record included a no-hitter against Downers Grove North, a six-inning no-hitter against York (had to leave the game with leg cramps), a one-hitter vs. Evanston, and two two-hitters, including a 1-0 shutout in the supersectionals against Highland Park." |

Sam Travis 3B / RHP / Providence, IL / 20112011 WINNER "Committed to Indiana University ... Was drafted in 40th round by the Reds. ... Earned PBR 2011 Player of the Year honors after he hit .504 with 17 homers, 17 doubles, 75 RBI and 53 runs scored. ... Without question, Travis has established himself as one of the premier right-handed hitters in the class, in addition to being one of the finest defensive third basemen in the state. A standout since his sophomore year, Travis� impressive junior campaign was punctuated with several clutch, game-winning hits for the state-ranked Celtics. He finished the spring with a .486 BA, 9 doubles, 5 homers, 2 triples and 32 RBI while slugging at a .752 clip." |

Shane Conlon LHP / OF / Naperville Central, IL / 20102010 WINNER "He finished his remarkable senior season with a 12-0 record and a 1.45 ERA. In 82 innings, he struck out 122 and walked 13. It seemed the higher the stakes, the better Conlon performed. In the supersectional against O’Fallon, Conlon threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks. As a junior at St. Rita, Conlon threw a four-hit shutout to beat O’Fallon in the Class 4A state semifinals. Later that summer, he pitched St. Rita to a victory in the IHSBCA summer state championship game. In three varsity seasons, Conlon had a career record of 26-1." |

Nick Tindall C / O'Fallon, IL / 20092009 WINNER "Named the 2009 Prep Baseball Report Player of the Year after hammering 18 home runs and 64 RBI. ... Drafted by the Twins in the 17th round. ...Committed to Southern Illinois University ... Power-hitting catcher with a strong arm. Finished junior year with 53 RBI, 13 doubles for O'Fallon. ...Tindall established himself as one of the best offensive catchers in the state after he tallied 53 RBI, 13 doubles, 7 homers, and 2 triples for the Panthers. Athletic with quick feet and hands, and has a solid arm." |
