IOWA - Prep Baseball Iowa's Top Prospect Games have become one of the state's premier recruiting events, serving as a launching pad for many of Iowa's top uncommitted prospects over the past decade. Each August, our staff brings together standout players from three graduating classes for a showcase and game-play environment that gives college coaches a complete evaluation, from objective performance data to how prospects compete between the lines.

As another talented group prepares to take the field in 2026, we're taking a look back at the all-time event leaders across several statistical categories while identifying the players on this year's roster with the tools to challenge those marks.

Arkansas commit Charlie Sarsfield ripped off the 6.36 at last summer's event, setting the tone for all future participants. 

This year's contenders include Cedar Fall's Jack Wilson, who churned out a 6.40 at last week's Super Senior Games in Kansas City, Johnston's Ahvyance Taylor, who had a 6.49 in 2025 and a 6.71 on the indoor turf at the Preseason All-State this year, and Roland-Story's Cooper Triggs, who peeled off a 6.67 in 2025 and a 6.73 at the Preseason All-State this year. 

Other potential burners and their top recent 60 times:

+ Jordan Zimmerman (Linn-Mar) - 6.67
+ Camden Eibey (Janesville) - 6.92

WDM Valley's Colton Roemmich was 91 across at the 2024 State Games, an impressive jump from his 87 MPH performance a week prior at the Future Games. With that big arm, Roemmich's future is on the mound at Nebraska but he still set the bar for everyone to clear. 

This year's roster doesn't include a lot of the players in the 2027s or 2028s that have proven hand cannons, so we'll have to see who has taken big strides over the summer. 

Harlen's Colton Schneider unleashed 90 across at the Preseason All-State while North Polk's Chase Bough uncorked an 87. Pella's Hayes Lautenbach was 86 MPH last week at the Super Senior Games as was Lewis Central's Owen Duffek at the Preseason ID-Central Iowa event.

Trent Grevengoed (2025 TPG), Colin Driscoll (2022 TPG), Max Gast (2022 TPG), and Charlie Sarsfield (2025) all own a portion of that record. 

Ahvyance Taylor was 89 MPH at the Preseason All-State in March, as was Des Moines Christian's Owen Gilbert at the Preseason ID-Central Iowa in May. Meanwhile Cedar Falls' Jack Wilson chucked an 88 at the Super Senior Games last week.

All seem to be in the ballpark of hitting that number.

Xavier's Beau Morio seems to be at this event for one thing and one thing only: throwing 85 from behind the dish and obliterating Joe Husak's record set at the 2020 Top Prospect Games.

Ok, that's not why he's here and, if we're being transparent, Morio was at 80 MPH in February at the Upper Midwest ProCase. Still he's probably the frontrunner to take on this mark. Le Mars' Brett McInnis was up to 81 MPH in May and he recently was touching 89 at the Super Senior Games off the mound.

+ Joe Scheck (Cedar Rapids Kennedy) - 80 MPH
+ Drew Turgasen (Liberty) - 79 MPH

This year's roster seems to lack the big thumpers from previous versions. There are still a few big-bodied swingers who might be putting up those kinds of numbers. 

Roland-Story's Cooper Triggs smashed a baseball 104.6 MPH at the Preseason All-State. If he can simply repeat that, he's got his name where Campidilli's used to be. Sioux City North's Joe Nilles was 102.1 MPH at the South Dakota Preseason ID. At 6-foot, 220, he's definitely capable of touching one. 

Others include Pella's Hayes Lautenbach who performed well last week in KC, reaching 100.4 MPH, and Le Mars' Brett McInnis, who featured a very consistent round in KC resulting in a solid 93.3 MPH average, but he did produce a 100.7 MPH max version in the spring as well. 

More names:

+ Julian Blanco (St. Edmonds) - 100.8 MPH
+ Patrick Lentz (Dowling Catholic) - 99.9 MPH

Purely on leaderboard presence alone, Trent Grevengoed won the 2025 Top Prospect Games. He did everything in event and even climbed up and set the record for highest max fastball at 90.5 MPH. 

Le Mars' Brett McInnis was 88.7 on the Trackman at the Super Senior Games last week. A small push might get elevate his name ahead of Grevengoed's. McInnis' Team Iowa teammate, Henry Birt, was up to 87.5 MPH. WDM Valley's Drake Gosselink was at 87.7 at the Preseason All-State, another arm to keep an eye on.

All three are within striking distance.
