The top players in South Carolina's 2029 class took the field last week at Founders Park on the campus of the University of South Carolina for the Prep Baseball East Coast Super Sophomore Games. The event brought together many of the top prospects from across the East Coast for one of the premier summer scouting opportunities in the country.

Team South Carolina opened the event with a comprehensive pro style workout that featured athletic testing, batting practice with TrackMan ball flight data, and defensive evaluations before competing in a three game schedule against some of the strongest regional talent. Representing the Palmetto State, Team South Carolina showcased its depth, athleticism, and competitiveness throughout the weekend.

QUICK HITTERS - PITCHERS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

Aaron Eberhardt OF / RHP / Indian Land, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 28 / POS: 8 Eberhardt showcased an intriguing mix of deception and pitchability throughout his outing.  The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander worked 83-86 mph, touching 87 mph, from a crossfire delivery that created uncomfortable angles for hitters. His fastball showed occasional arm-side run, and he paired it with a sharp 74-77 mph curveball that he spun well, generating quality depth and keeping hitters off balance.  He also mixed in a 79-80 mph changeup, giving him a complete three-pitch arsenal.  Eberhardt's ability to spin the baseball and create deception makes him an intriguing young arm in the 2029 class

Gavin Graham OF / RHP / James F. Byrnes, SC / 2029 Graham impressed with an easy, repeatable delivery and advanced feel for commanding the strike zone.  The right-hander worked 78-80 mph, touching 81 mph, with a fastball that featured exceptional ride, producing nearly 20 inches of induced vertical break, allowing it to play well through the top of the zone.  He paired it with a true 12-to-6 curveball at 66-69 mph that showed sharp downward action and consistent shape, while also mixing in a 73-75 mph changeup to round out his arsenal.  Graham's ability to command the baseball, combined with the quality ride on his fastball and a hammer breaking ball, made him one of the more polished young arms at the event.

Banks Head OF / LHP / Dutch Fork, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 58 / POS: 14 Head showcased an advanced three-pitch mix with an easy, repeatable delivery that consistently found the strike zone.  The left-hander worked 76-80 mph, touching 81 mph, with a fastball that featured quality arm-side run and paired it with a 68-69 mph changeup that mirrored the fastball's movement, creating difficult looks for hitters.  He rounded out his arsenal with a 66-68 mph gyro slider that gave him a true swing-and-miss breaking ball.  Head's combination of strike-throwing ability, quality movement, and deceptive operation made him one of the more polished young left-handers at the event.

Leo Madern 1B / RHP / Indian Land, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 20 / POS: 2 Madern turned in one of the more impressive outings of the event, showcasing poise and a quality three-pitch mix from a lower arm slot.  The right-hander worked 79-82 mph, touching 83 mph, with a run-heavy fastball that paired extremely well with a 74-75 mph changeup, creating difficult looks for hitters.  His 70-72 mph slider served as a true swing-and-miss offering with late bite, helping him punch out four hitters during his outing.  Madern's composed presence, deceptive release, and ability to miss bats with all three pitches make him an intriguing young arm with plenty of upside.

Alex Peraza 3B / RHP / A.C. Flora, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 16 / POS: 2 Peraza impressed with outstanding tempo and advanced strike-throwing ability throughout his outing.  The 6-foot-2 right-hander worked 82-84 mph, touching 85 mph, with a firm fastball that he consistently located in the zone.  He complemented it with a hammer 71-73 mph curveball and a depth-filled 78-79 mph changeup, creating a well-rounded three-pitch mix.  Working from a higher arm slot, Peraza did an excellent job tunneling all three offerings, making it difficult for hitters to distinguish pitches out of the hand.  His command, pitch sequencing, and ability to repeat his delivery made him one of the more polished young arms at the event.

Brayden Royal LHP / 1B / Christ Church Episcopal, SC / 2029 Royal turned in an efficient outing, consistently inducing weak contact with a polished three-pitch mix.  The left-hander worked 81-84 mph, touching 85 mph, with a fastball that featured quality arm-side run from a loose, whippy low three-quarter arm slot. He paired it with a big 67-69 mph curveball that changed eye levels effectively and a 74-75 mph changeup with plenty of arm-side fade.  Royal repeated his delivery well, worked downhill efficiently, and showed the ability to keep hitters off balance throughout the outing.  His combination of movement, deception, and feel for pitching makes him an intriguing young left-handed arm.

Camden Smith OF / C / eastside, SC / 2029 Smith showcased an athletic, competitive presence on the mound with a quality three-pitch arsenal.  The right-hander worked 82-85 mph, touching 86 mph, with a firm fastball that he attacked the strike zone with throughout the outing.  He complemented the heater with two distinct breaking balls, each offering a different shape and look, allowing him to keep hitters off balance and change eye levels effectively.  Smith's athleticism, competitive makeup, and ability to mix his pitches give him an intriguing foundation as a young arm with plenty of upside.

Colt Spargur LHP / 1B / Hilton Head Christian Academy, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 12 / POS: 2 Spargur delivered one of the more polished outings of the event, using smooth mechanics and quality movement to dominate over two innings, striking out four hitters.  The 6-foot-3 left-hander worked 83-85 mph, with a riding fastball that played well through the top of the strike zone.  He paired it with a sharp 68-71 mph curveball that consistently changed eye levels and generated swings and misses, while also mixing in a 79 mph changeup to complete a polished three-pitch arsenal.  With his large frame, downhill angle, and repeatable delivery, Spargur showed the traits of a high-upside young left-hander who knows how to attack hitters.

Ray Steed Jr OF / RHP / South Pointe, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 42 / POS: 12 Steed showcased one of the more projectable young arms at the event, pairing athleticism with advanced strike-throwing ability. The right-hander worked 79-82 mph, touching 84 mph, with a firm fastball that he commanded well throughout the outing.  He complemented it with a sweepy 66-70 mph curveball that created a different look for hitters and kept them off balance, while also mixing in a 75-77 mph changeup.  Steed's quick, athletic delivery, repeatable mechanics, and feel for the strike zone stood out, making him an intriguing prospect with significant room for continued development.

Rhys Torgerson RHP / 3B / J. L. Mann High Academy, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 9 / POS: 1 Torgerson turned in one of the more polished pitching performances of the event, showing advanced tempo and an impressive ability to repeat his delivery.  The right-hander worked 83-87 mph, touching 87 mph, with a lively fastball that played well out front thanks to his excellent extension down the mound.  He paired it with a sharp 71-74 mph slider that consistently changed eye levels and generated uncomfortable swings, while also mixing in a 76-80 mph changeup to round out a quality three-pitch mix. Torgerson's clean mechanics, polished feel for pitching, and ability to attack hitters with confidence made him one of the standout arms in the 2029 class.

Parker Wetherbee RHP / SS / South Pointe, SC / 2029 Rankings  StateRank: 14 / POS: 2 Wetherbee emerged as one of the top arms at the event, showcasing a polished three-pitch mix and the ability to attack hitters with confidence.  The right-hander worked 87-88 mph, touching 89 mph, with a firm riding fastball that consistently played through the top of the strike zone.  He complemented it with a sharp 81-82 mph cutter that gave hitters a different look and mixed in a 75-81 mph changeup with quality depth to keep them off balance.  Wetherbee's quick tempo, athletic delivery, and advanced feel for his arsenal allowed him to pound the strike zone and separate himself as one of the standout pitchers of the week.
