Tournament Takeaways: 2026 NJ World Series

The NJ World Series brought some of the top talent in the region to Montclair, NJ, with players from the 2025-2031 classes competing over four days of game action.
Numerous players elevated their stock throughout the weekend, showcasing high-end tools, impressive athleticism, and impactful in-game production. Below, we take a closer look at the top performers from the NJ World Series and the players who made the biggest impressions throughout the event.

Sage Caesar SS / RHP / CCHS, NY / 2028The 5'11" - 175 lb strong athletic 2-way prospect showed off his versatility this weekend in New Jersey. At the plate, Sage has an upright setup with his weight staying backloaded and coiled into his back hip with his hands held at ear-height. During the load, he utilizes a long forward stride that efficiently transfers his weight into the swing. His barrel works quickly through the zone with a natural upper body tilt, creating a slightly uphill swing path that allows him to consistently elevate and drive the baseball with authority. On the mound, Sage competes with a bulldog mentality, attacking hitters with confidence while consistently filling up the strike zone. Mechanically, his arm stays compact in the backswing and is whippy throughout the motion. He works aggressively ahead in counts and shows the ability to command a polished three-pitch mix. The FB sat 81–84 MPH, topping out at 85 MPH, showing firm life with quality arm-side run that allowed it to play effectively to both sides of the plate. He complemented it with a 69–72 MPH CB that featured tight spin and late depth, giving hitters a change of eye level. The CH sat 75–77 MPH and showed quality depth, creating separation off the fastball and generating uncomfortable swings.

Trey Chalfin OF / Northern Highlands, NJ / 2029The athletic and wiry 6'1" - 183 lb outfielder showed his ability to impact the game throughout the weekend. At the plate, Trey has a balanced, slightly open setup with his hands staying still held at ear-height. During load, he has a short stride and leans his upper half over the plate. He then firing the hands that stay close to his body and quick through the zone while creating a steep uphill swing path and leverage with his long levered build.

Jace Lawless OF / SS / Saint Joseph by The Sea, NY / 2028The 5'8" - 145 lb showed the ability to hit for power this weekend at the top of the order for the RCBC Nationals. At the plate, Jace has a wide squatted setup with rhythmic hands held at ear-height. During load, he times up the pitcher by double-tapping his front foot and drops his hands into a power position to elbow level before the swing. Through the zone, the barrel works uphill through the zone and he gets his arms fully extended at impact with the barrel working slightly behind the hands generating power to the pullside.

Freddie Master OF / RHP / William Penn Charter, PA / 2029The 5'10" atheltic 2-way prospect showed off his ability to impact the game in multiple ways with power over the weekend. At the plate, Freddie hit 2 HRs being a an impact bat at the top of the order. Mechanically, he has a a balanced upright setup with rhythmic hands being held at ear height. During load, he takes a long stride as he sinks his weight into his back hip creating a natural upper body tilt. The hands stay short and quick through the zone with the barrel working slightly uphill creating natural launch upon impact. Freddie also got the win on the mound in the semi-final game of 15u bracket with his FB sitting 79-80 topping 81 MPH paired with a CB sitting 66-68 MPH.

Dawson Onorato C / 2B / Cinnaminson, NJ / 2029The 5'11" - 190 lb backstop showed off his power to the pullside this weekend hitting multiple HRs in the playoffs. Mechanically, Dawson has an upright setup with his weight coiled in his back hip with his hands held at ear height. During load, his front foot hovers inward as the back hip fires through impact with his hands working close to his body and quick through the zone creating an uphill swing path with a whippy barrel effect generating launch at impact.

Luca Scarangello SS / RHP / St. Joseph by the Sea, NY / 2028The 5'11" - 175 lb athletic 2-way prospect showcased his two-way ability with an impressive all-around performance at the NJ World Series. At the plate, Luca showed good feel for the barrel spraying the ball from gap to gap throughout the weekend. Mechanically, he has a wide squatted lower half with his weight staying coiled in his back hip and the hands staying quiet at shoulder height. During load, he lifts his front foot and returns it to the same position while the back hip explodes through impact. The hands get extended and work above the baseball through the swing while creating leverage at impact. On the mound, Luca has a long stabber motion in the backswing with a whippy arm throughout the motion. He features a two-pitch mix with the FB sitting 83-84 topping 85 MPH that is firm through the zone pairing it with a SL 66-68 MPH that generates late depth and sweep resulting in whiffs / uncomfortable swings in the outer half of the zone against RHHs.
