The 2026 spring season has come to an end across the First State. This week, our staff will highlight the Prep Baseball DE All-State teams, including the Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Underclass Player of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year. Next up, we highlight a player whose impact on the offensive side of the ball carried his team to a deep playoff run, highlighted by the biggest moment of the year.

2026 DELAWARE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

2026 Osiah Kelley (Sussex Central)
Commitment: University of Maryland

Heading into the spring, there was a mix of hype and uncertainty surrounding Osiah Kelley’s senior year at Sussex Central. After dominating on the mound and at the plate in his sophomore season, leading Central to a state semifinal appearance, the top-ranked player in the state missed the entire junior season and had not played any sort of in-game competitive baseball in over 18 months.

Kelley entered the season as the Player of the Year favorite, and Central’s ceiling for the season resided on Kelley’s ability to come back better than ever, and early on, it looked like he was back to his former self. However, after only one scrimmage in which Kelley threw two innings — he would not throw another pitch in the regular or postseason. This forced him to make a game-changing offensive impact to take home the award, and he did so.

The University of Maryland commit responded with a star-studded senior season, leading Central to a first-round bye while slashing .526/.630/1.391 while swiping seventeen bags. His biggest moment of the season may have been at the top of the DIAA, launching a walk-off three-run homer in their first playoff game to beat Saint Mark’s.

The string of impactful offensive threats continues to highlight the First State, as this now makes it six of the last seven winners to be offensive-minded athletes (the exception being Tyler August in 2023). Osiah now transitions into the summer season, looking to gain traction towards the MLB Draft and into his freshman season with the Terps.
