Tampa Summer ID/Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

The Tampa Summer ID took place on Wednesday, June 3, at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, FL. The event featured players from the 2027-2030 classes participating in a pro-style workout, followed by bullpens in front of the Prep Baseball Florida Scouting Staff.

Today, we will share quick notes on the standouts from Wednesday’s event.

CATCHING STANDOUTS

2028 Joe O’Brien had a strong day behind the plate, with an event-best 2.00 pop time, as well as a 75 mph catcher velocity. 2028 Cohen Roach was right behind him with a 2.01 pop. 2027 Logan Handville led the event with a 76 mph catcher velo.

POWER BATS

2028 Chance Baisden was the biggest offensive standout of the day, consistently hitting the ball hard while displaying power potential to the pull side. He recorded a 100.8 mph exit velocity and 380 ft max distance, both event bests. 2029 Riley Weidman had the second-best exit velo at 97.7.

ATHLETES

2027 Bryan Barrios showed above-average athleticism at the Tampa Summer ID. He had the second-best 60-yard dash (6.99 seconds), as well as the third-highest vertical (22.8 inches). 2028 Joe O’Brien had the highest vertical of the event at 24.4, followed by 2027 Logan Handville (22.9). 2027 Julius Dunlap had the fastest 60-yard dash of 6.97.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS

2027 Bryan Barrios had a strong showing in the outfield, with accuracy and a max velocity of 82 mph. 2029 Riley Weidman and 2027 Logan Handville also had velos of 82 mph from the outfield. 2028 Chance Baisden showed range in the infield with an XL 6’2”, 265 lb. frame.

PITCHERS

2027 Rocco Baer led the event with a fastball velocity of 89 mph, also featuring a splitter (78.2 mph, 628 RPM) and curveball. 2029 Riley Weidman topped out at 84 mph from the left side. The southpaw’s four-pitch arsenal featured a fastball (84, 2203), curveball (69, 2198), slider (68, 2182), and changeup (74.5, 1758).

RISING STARS

2030 Bergen Ray impressed in several different areas, leading the rising stars group in catcher pop time, catcher velo, outfield velo, exit velo, and the 60. 2030 Caleb Reid had an exit velocity of 81.5 while also displaying strong glove-side range.
