On Tuesday, July 14th, our staff traveled to Wintrust Field in Schaumburg, IL for the Northwest Suburban ID. This event was host to over 50 players from the surrounding area, giving our staff an up-close and personal look at some of the talent the area has to offer.

Today, we are highlighting some of the day’s biggest winners in this Takeaways piece, found below.

Position Players

Waylon Marko, C, Hononegah, 2028
Currently ranked No. 91 in the state. Present physicality in his 6-foot, 190-pound frame, broad and rounded shoulders with a developed lower-half. Took one of the loudest rounds of the day with his big power on display, leading the event with a 103 mph peak EV, averaging 89 mph while also leading the event with a 388’ max distance - a ball that cleared the left field wall and nearly took out the scoreboard. The right-handed hitter has added some fluidity to his operation at the plate, working with strong hands and natural lift with power to all fields. He impressed behind the plate with the strongest arm (T80 mph) and lowest pop-time (1.94) of the day, working on the bag with carry. Impressive power-hitting catcher that keeps getting better each time we see him.

Camren Campbell, C, Plainfield South, 2028
Strong, 5-foot-9, 182-pound frame, rounded shoulders, developed lower-half. Right-handed hitter, took one of the more polished rounds of the day; from a stretched position at launch works into a steep path, longer through the zone with lift up the middle at times, whole field approach with an intentful swing, 99.4 mph peak EV, averaged 90.2 mph, 363’ max distance. Defensively, clean glove-to-hand while working low and through the baseball, strong arm that was on the bag consistently, 74 mph from the chute with a pop-time down to 2.00.

Owen Bruns, OF, St. Viator, 2028
5-foot-10, 155-pounds, lean and wiry with room to add strength. Clean left-handed swing with one of the better rounds of the day; loose and flat while staying through the zone, quick and strong hands, balanced with a line-drive approach, more power to come as he fills out. Steady, soft hands in the outfield, confident glove. 6.85 runner in the 60.

Carson Ramoley, OF, Brother Rice, 2028
Currently ranked No. 35 in the state. 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame, trim and athletic. Right-handed hitter with a clean swing, present twitch in the hands with some lift in an uphill path, line-drive contact up the middle of the field while staying balanced, 97.4 mph peak EV. Athletic defender in the outfield with smooth hands, soft glove with confident actions.

Aydin Gundogdu, INF, St. Laurence, 2028
5-foot-10, 160-pound frame, wiry and athletic, room to add on strength. Right-handed hitter with a loose and handsy swing, flat path, athletic operation with a line-drive approach that worked up the middle of the field, flashed a whole field approach in his round, 92.4 mph peak EV. Fluid, natural defender on the dirt, rangy actions with a confident glove, clean transfers, quick release with a strong arm, T84 mph across.

TJ McMahon, INF, Libertyville, 2028
6-foot, 190-pound frame, broad shoulders with a slender build, room to add plenty more strength. The right-handed hitter showed present bat-speed with a steep path, working flat at times with consistent line-drives, 97 mph peak EV, 86 mph average EV, 351’ peak distance. Upside name to know. Steady defender with quality actions on the infield, sure-handed defender with clean transfers.

Drew Peterson, INF, Alleman, 2027
5-foot-11, 180-pound frame, athletic and proportionate build. The right-handed hitter impressed with a strong swing that works on top of the baseball, creating line-drives while working up the middle and pull-side, also lifting the baseball at times to the biggest parts of the field, 94.3 mph peak EV, 359’ peak distance. Fluid defender on the infield with soft hands, clean actions with fluid transfers, comfortable going to either side of his glove, arm played from multiple angles, T81 mph.

Brendan Hyland, C, Nazareth Academy, 2028
6-foot,150-pound frame, lean and highly projectable with plenty of room to continue to add strength. Right-handed hitter with a clean swing, creates length through the zone with a flat path, 90.1 mph peak EV. Steady defender with clean transfers from behind the plate, works in-line out of the crouch, arm worked up to 70 mph with a pop-time down to 2.12.

Evan Panther, OF, St. Laurence, 2027
5-foot-11, 180-pound frame, proportionate and lean build with room to add strength. Left-handed hitter, took a clean round of BP with a loose operation while working on top of the baseball, balanced swing with easy jump off the bat, 98 mph peak EV, 89 mph average EV, 347’ peak distance. Attacks the baseball in the outfield with a confident glove, athletic footwork through the baseball, strong arm up to 85 mph from a crowhop. 7.15 runner in the 60.

Ethan Borjas, INF, Schaumburg, 2029
5-foot-10, 155-pound frame, lean and wiry, projectable with room to add in the coming years. A right-handed hitter to follow from the day, showing an athletic operation that works on top of the baseball with line-drives to the whole field, creates a tight turn through the zone.

INF Noel Reyes (St. Rita, 2030) is an incoming freshman to follow from the day, showing a clean and athletic swing with some bat-speed and a line-drive approach.

INF Tanner Sliwinski (South Elgin, 2027), INF Jacob Meiners (Schaumburg, 2027), C Drew Allen (Glenbard North, 2029), INF TJ Zabor (St. Viator, 2028), C/OF Tate Pietrzyk (Providence Catholic, 2027), INF Joey Lengle (Huntley, 2027), OF Mateo Palumbo (Evanston, 2029), INF Cody Forbes (Notre Dame College Prep, 2028), C Eli Fasanati (Maine South, 2027) and C/OF Jaydon Brewbaker (Seeger Memorial (IN), 2028) are a multitude of names that impressed on the day and are worth shouting out.

Two Ways

Luke Ingram, OF/RHP, Lincoln-Way East, 2028
6-foot-3, 180-pound frame, proportionate with room to add strength. Had a strong showing on both sides of the ball. The right-handed hitter was on the barrel with a peak EV up to 92 mph, but where he really stood out was on the mound - working the fastball up to 86 mph with a curveball that spun over 2,800 rpm at 69-71 mph, along with a changeup he killed spin on in the 75-77 mph range with some fade. The curveball is a true outlier for him, reaching over 15” of horizontal break with depth to it as well.

Logan Woodbury, OF/C/RHP, Huntley, 2029
5-foot-11, 155-pounds, lean and proportionate build, room to add strength in the coming years. The right-handed hitter showed a loose and clean swing with a steep path, consistently working to the pull-side with line-drives, 94.4 mph peak EV. On the mound, he worked in the low-80s with the fastball with heavy running action - also pairing with a curveball with short bullet shape at 68-70 mph and a changeup with heavy fade at 75-76 mph.

Pitchers

Trevor Bacik, RHP, New Trier, 2027
6-foot-2, 185-pound frame, lean and long-levered build with additional room to add strength. The right-hander showed an athletic drop/drive delivery with a medium leg lift, utilizing a longer draw out of the glove with a loose ¾ arm action. His fastball played firm in the mid-80s (T86.5 mph) with life out of the hand, complimenting it with a curveball at 72-74 mph with a late 11/5 bite, and a changeup that fades to the arm-side at 70-72 mph.
