Future Games Tryout, San Diego: Positional Analysis

On Saturday, May 30th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the San Diego Future Games Tryout at San Diego State University in San Diego, Cal. This was an invite-only event for 2028 graduates, and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top prospects.

Today, we will we’re taking a look at all of the positional prospects from the event, along with a top-5 ranking of who impressed our staff the most.
TOP POSITIONAL PROSPECTS
1. Zion Avina, Orange Lutheran (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/2B Middle infielder with athletic actions and easy pop at the plate.
Body: 5-9.6, 190-pounds. Compact, athletic frame with present strength.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, even lower half. Upper half is tight and loaded. Hands kept at shoulder height with back elbow flared outward. Bat positioned up towards the 3rd baseline. Short leg lift stride to initiate load into rear leg. Lands soft on front foot with an efficient weight shift to get into launch position. One-hand finish. 70.4 mph bat speed with 8g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 99 mph max exit velocity (95.7 avg.); 377-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 85 mph. Low 3/4 arm slot. Quick arm-back path windup. Follows through fully.
Defense: Smooth, efficient lower-half mover. Slow, short strides towards ball. Upper half is used for transfer.
Athletic Testing: 6.89 runner in the 60-yard dash.
