On Tuesday, June 9th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, to host the 2026 Team TX Future Games Tryouts, an invite-only event for the class of 2028.

More than 50 players made their way to Texas State and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting the top statistical performers. Today, we will provide our scouting takeaways on some of the prospects who stood out throughout the event.

Great build/frame with plenty of room to add strength. Plus run tool with the quickness to impact the game on the bases. Developing actions at shortstop, though center field could also become a defensive home with his speed. The hit approach should continue to firm up, and the impact at the plate will increase as he adds strength.

Athletic player with a compact frame that will continue to add strength. Plus runner (6.68 60) with the actions to stay in the middle of the infield at shortstop or second base. Produces consistent line-drive contact, with offensive impact expected to grow as he matures physically.

Athletic left-handed hitter with room to add strength. Plus runner (6.75 60) whose quickness shows both on the bases and defensively. Has the actions to handle the middle of the field, while the offensive impact should continue to develop as strength is added.

Dane Thornton | INF | Southlake Carroll | 2028 | L/R | 5'6" 165
Solid build with room for additional strength. Posted a 6.84 60 while showing good movement patterns. Repeats the swing well, producing consistent line-drive contact and flashing some raw power during batting practice. Defensive versatility gives him value across the infield.

Left-handed hitting center fielder with plus speed (6.62 60). Uses his quickness well on the bases and shows quality range in center field. The swing works, producing consistent barrel contact, with more offensive impact expected as he continues to mature.

Middle infielder with room to add strength. Posted a 6.89 60 and projects as a future plus runner. Developing defensive actions should allow him to stay in the middle of the field. Hit-over-power profile now, with future gap power and eventual over-the-fence power as strength develops.

Projectable catcher with a frame built for added strength. Above-average runner for the position. Received well during game play and posted solid pop times in workouts. Projects for a quality bat/power combination.

Projectable athlete with room to add strength. Shows solid actions at shortstop and posted a 6.97 60, with additional speed expected. Developing offensive approach should improve with maturity. On the mound, the arm works with good arm speed, touching 89 mph. Needs to repeat the delivery more consistently, but flashed quality secondary action.

Physical catcher who received well and posted quality pop times during workouts. Shows present pull-side raw power. On the mound, repeats the delivery well and touched 87 mph after catching earlier in the day. Shows feel for both the breaking ball and changeup, projecting as a quality starter.

Athletic player with a projectable frame and plus speed (6.63 60). Center field is the best fit currently, though his infield actions continue to improve. Shows a line-drive offensive approach with more impact expected as he adds strength.

Shows starter traits with present pitchability. Fastball projects for additional velocity while showing the ability to work both up and down in the zone.
