The Senior Future Games took place on July 22-23 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the class of 2026 participated in one of the most popular events each year.

We caught up with some of the state's standout performers who competed on Team WestCoast to hear about their highlights on the weekend, overall experience at LakePoint, and what their recruitment process has looked like since attending the event.

Owen Shannon, 2026, RHP Mater Dei High School

The 6'8'' righty features a strong fastball that tops out at 89 MPH. The hurler also features a sharp slider and a devastating splitter.

Prep Baseball CA: What was your initial reaction when you first arrived at LakePoint and saw all the college coaches and scouts?

Shannon: "I thought it was amazing. It was honestly insane how many coaches there were. It really stood out how many programs were in attendance, and it was overall a great experience."

Prep Baseball CA: How would you assess your performance over the weekend?

Shannon: "It wasn’t my best outing, but I thought I showed who I am as a pitcher. I was able to show flashes of my slider and some of the things I do well. Overall, even though it wasn’t my sharpest performance, I was still happy with it and felt like I competed."

Prep Baseball CA: What was it like being part of Team West Coast?

Shannon: "It was a lot of fun. Everyone was really cool, and I enjoyed getting to know guys from different areas. Being around that level of talent and just competing together made it a great experience."

Prep Baseball CA: What stood out about the level of competition?

Shannon: "I expected it to be good, and it definitely lived up to that. It was awesome competing against players from all over who are all trying to reach the same goal. That kind of environment pushes you to be better."

Prep Baseball CA: What advice would you give to players attending Senior Future Games next summer?

Shannon: "Just go out there and do your thing. Trust yourself and compete."

Prep Baseball CA: You mentioned being a bit late to the recruiting process — how did that journey play out for you?

Shannon: "I was a little late to recruiting because I focused on football early on. That was my main sport through my freshman year and into my junior season, so I missed a few key summers for baseball. This past summer was really my first full recruiting cycle, and I made the most of it with events like Senior Future Games. I had interest from a mix of Division II, Division III, and some Division I programs like CSUN, Army (West Point), LMU, and Pitt."

On September 25th, 2025, Shannon took to social media to announce his commitment to the University of Pittsburgh.

Prep Baseball CA: What ultimately went into your decision-making process?

Shannon: "It was definitely a tough decision. West Point was an amazing opportunity, but I realized I wanted to focus more on baseball and academics rather than the full military commitment. I really liked Pitt and their coaching staff. Overall, I was just looking for the best fit where I could compete at a high level and continue developing."

With his large frame and a strong drive for success, Shannon has all the tools for a strong collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh and beyond.
