EMERSON, GA – Team UTAH, comprised of 19 of the top uncommitted 2028 prospects, made the trip to LakePoint Sports from July 22-25 to represent the Beehive State at the 2026 Prep Baseball Future Games. Competing in front of more than 495 college coaches and scouts, Utah’s representatives showcased their abilities during the pro-style workout and game action at one of the country’s premier recruiting events. Below, we take a deeper look at each player’s performance, the tools that stood out and the areas they can continue to develop.

Jake Welch SS / RHP / Lehi, UT / 2028Jake made a compelling argument heading into LakePoint, that he could be the best overall player on the field every time he stepped on the diamond. Defensively at SS, Welch stands out as arguably the premier defender in the 2028 class; his seamless footwork, soft hands, and impeccable timing ensure he always plays with rhythm and never seems to catch a bad hop. His arm talent is electric, reaching up to 94 mph across the diamond and on the bump with relative ease and significant carry. At the plate, the Spanish Fork product went 4/6 with 4 RBI and a HBP, showcasing dynamic barrel control and high-level run-producing impact. On the mound, the 6'2", 175 lb right-hander was equally imposing, tossing 2 scoreless innings while facing the minimum 6 batters and punching out 3. McLean pounded the strike zone with 3 quality pitches, running his FB up to 89 mph with a live arm action that continues to elevate every time he takes the field. Operating from a 3/4 slot, the southpaw hides the baseball remarkably well and attacks with real fearlessness, commanding his FB to all four quadrants while repeatedly busting both LH and RH hitters on the inner half. His FB/CH combination consistently denies hard contact, complemented by a SL that flashes legitimate swing-and-miss depth as he projects up levels. Now standing at a physical 6'3", 180 lbs, the dual-sport athlete (football) showcased his athleticism by running a 6.67 in the 60 and making an impressive full-sprint play against the wall during game action. While his overall athleticism stands out, his ceiling is highest on the mound, where he sat 90-92 in this outing and has consistently ran his FB into the low 90s since early Spring, projecting as a future mid-to-upper 90s thrower. Driven by a strong off-field work ethic, elite confidence, and a desire to compete in big moments, Holmstead asserts himself as one of the premier prospects in the class. A late addition to the roster, Kason proved to be one of the top overall performers at LakePoint, playing high-level baseball all week long. Defensively, Taylor shined at SS by converting every play sent his way, including several high-difficulty opportunities that highlighted his quick first step, sharp instincts, and soft hands suited for the middle infield at the next level. While a smaller athlete, he is exceptionally agile and light on his feet, allowing his game to play much bigger than his frame. Offensively, the left-handed hitter brings a strong contact approach, willingly taking pitches the other way and minimizing swing-and-miss while keeping the ball out of the air to maximize his high-end speed tool. An elite in-game baserunner, Taylor possesses a foundation of tools that will only continue to elevate his standing in the 2028 class as additional physical strength comes. Dawson arrived at LakePoint coming off one of the top offensive spring seasons in the state, continuing to look the part of a high-level prospect in the box. That trend carried seamlessly into gameplay, where Moore collected multiple hits and produced several loud outs. He features a fluid, powerful LH swing that works between the gaps with a consistent ability to generate backspin. Moore pairs a keen eye for the strike zone with elite bat-to-ball skills, demonstrating the ability to shorten his stride and execute against tough arms or with two strikes. Defensively, he is a high-IQ SS whose hands, footwork, and arm strength continue to show steady, projectable gains. Capable of handling either corner INF spot with smooth hands and fluid feet, Price also offers strike-throwing utility on the mound where he runs his fastball up to 86 mph.
