SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - On Tuesday, June 30th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the San Diego Summer ID at Maranatha Christian in San Diego. This was an open event for all high school classes (2026-2030) and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top players.

Over 50 players made their way to Maranatha Christian and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball California staff.

Today, we will take a look at some of the top standout players from the event.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Asher Johnson OF / RHP / Rancho Bernardo High, CA / 2027

Johnson put together a workout that was impossible to overlook, finishing near the top—or at the top—of nearly every major testing category. The 6-2 physical, athletic frame was on full display as he posted an event-best 6.55 60-yard dash, pairing speed with explosiveness. Defensively, Johnson showed one of the strongest outfield arms in attendance at 88 mph, second only among the outfield group, with the arm strength to profile anywhere across the grass. The offensive numbers were just as impressive. Johnson led the event with a 106.2 mph max exit velocity, producing a 100% hard-hit rate and a 384-foot max batted distance. Nearly every swing resulted in loud contact, with most of the damage coming on hard, low line drives that exploded off the barrel.

Eric Tani SS / 2B / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2027

Tani had an impressive workout, highlighted by several personal bests and one of the most consistent offensive performances of the day. He ran a new personal-best 6.97 60-yard dash, showing continued athletic development, and displayed an 81 mph arm across the diamond with clean, controlled actions from shortstop. The switch-hitting infielder really stood out in the batter's box. Tani posted the second-highest max exit velocity of the event at 102.9 mph, while averaging an outstanding 94.6 mph with a 383-foot max batted distance. From both sides of the plate, the swing remained consistent, featuring a level path through the zone, present barrel control, and an impressive 93.3% hard-hit rate. Tani continues to make steady gains physically and athletically, and the offensive profile keeps trending in the right direction.

Charles Jaskowiak OF / RHP / Westview High, CA / 2027

Jaskowiak already shows present strength in his 6-2 frame while still offering plenty of room to continue filling out over the coming years. The 2027 prospect opened the day by posting the second-fastest 60-yard dash at 6.62, reinforcing the athleticism that plays throughout his game. Defensively, he recorded the top outfield arm velocity of the event at 91 mph, showing easy carry, accuracy, and the arm strength to handle any outfield position. At the plate, Jaskowiak produced a 96 mph max exit velocity, consistently driving hard, low line drives with an efficient swing geared toward quality contact. The combination of physical projection and offensive upside (with two-way potential; strong showing during HS season) gives him an intriguing long-term profile as he gets ready to enter his senior season in 2027.

Tanner Nickols 1B / OF / Los Alamitos High School, Los Alamitos, CA 90720, CA / 2027

Nickols showcased the traits of a prototypical corner bat with a physical, strong-bodied frame capable of handling either first base or a corner outfield spot. Defensively, he recorded an 87 mph outfield arm—the third-best mark among all outfielders—while also showing an 84 mph arm from first base, giving him versatility between the two positions. His thick lower half provides an excellent foundation for future power, and the offensive metrics backed that up throughout the workout. Nickols posted a 99.9 mph max exit velocity while averaging 93.3 mph, producing a strong 85.7% sweet spot rate. The swing consistently generated backspun line drives, resulting in a 392-foot max batted distance and showing the ability to impact the baseball with authority. For a player carrying a 200-plus-pound frame, he also moved well, running a 7.09 60-yard dash, which fits comfortably within a long-term corner outfield profile. The combination of present strength, offensive impact, and better-than-expected athleticism makes Nickols an intruiging uncommitted 2027 prospect heading into his senior year out of Los Alamitos.

Ryan Barrozo-Looney C / OF / Rancho Bernardo High, CA / 2028

Barrozo-Looney turned in one of the better all-around workouts of the day, standing out on both sides of the ball. He opened with a 6.86 60-yard dash, moving exceptionally well for a catcher, before following it up with a 75 mph arm and 2.05-2.21 pop times. The catch-and-throw skills fit the profile of a long-term backstop, as he consistently put throws around the bag while showing solid mobility behind the plate. At the plate, Barrozo-Looney put together a standout BP session, launching five home runs in 12 swings while consistently showing pull-side power with natural loft. He attacked the baseball with intent, creating loud contact throughout the round, and also flashed the ability to stay through the ball and drive it to the opposite field when needed. The offensive upside is evident, particularly as the power continues to emerge. The next step in Barrozo-Looney's development will be continuing to add strength to his frame. As the body matures, the added physicality should further enhance the offensive profile while also helping to quicken the actions behind the plate and create additional carry on throws from the crouch.

Jesse Maddox OF / LHP / Granite Hills High, CA / 2029

After earning both varsity innings on the mound and everyday playing time as a freshman at Granite Hills, Maddox put together a strong workout at the San Diego Summer ID. He showed an accurate 83 mph arm from the outfield with modest carry, though there are still some refinements to be made with his approach to the baseball and glove-to-hand transfers that should continue to improve with more reps. Offensively, Maddox impressed from the left side, posting a 96.7 mph max exit velocity with a 363-foot max batted distance, consistently producing line-drive contact from gap to gap. He also turned in a 7.20 60-yard dash, reinforcing the athleticism that complements his two-way profile. With success already at the varsity level as both a position player and pitcher, Maddox continues to establish himself as one of the more promising young prospects out of San Diego.

Nelson Diaz OF / SS / Ruben S. Ayala, CA / 2027

Diaz projects well thanks to a lean, athletic frame that still has plenty of room for physical development. He showed off his athleticism by running a 6.67 60-yard dash, one of the better times at the event, and paired it with an 82 mph arm from the outfield. The actions and athleticism provide the versatility to continue developing in multiple defensive roles. Offensively, Diaz put together a consistent BP session, recording a 97.9 mph max exit velocity while averaging 89 mph across his rounds. He consistently found the barrel and produced quality contact, driving the ball with authority to a 369-foot max batted distance. As his frame continues to mature and add strength, there is clear indication that more power is still on the way.

Landon Moore RHP / OF / Point Loma High, CA / 2027

Moore put together a strong bullpen, highlighted by an impressive fastball that worked 85-86 mph while showing 95% spin efficiency, allowing the pitch to play well through the strike zone. He complemented the fastball with a three-pitch mix, including a 73-75 mph breaking ball that flashed more slurve characteristics than a traditional curveball, showing both depth and lateral action. His 76-77 mph changeup spun a bit higher than typical, but consistently flashed the late depth and dive you'd like to see from the offering, giving him another quality weapon to the repertoire. Moore possesses a projectable 6-foot-1 athletic frame with plenty of room to continue adding strength over the next few years and is a 2027 arm out of San Diego whose development will be worth following closely.

Caden Lee SS / 2B / Great Oak High, CA / 2028

Lee turned in a well-rounded workout that highlighted both present ability and long-term projection. He ran a 7.10 60-yard dash and showed an 83 mph arm with smooth, confident actions at shortstop. The athleticism, range, and body control all point toward the ability to remain on the left side of the infield as he continues to develop. At the plate, Lee posted a 98.6 mph max exit velocity while averaging 90.3 mph, showing loose hands that create extension through the zone and consistent impact. His level swing produced a 50% line-drive rate, allowing him to consistently square the baseball up. With a lean, projectable frame that has plenty of room to add strength over the next two to three years, Lee possesses an intriguing blend of upside and physical projection that makes him a name to follow.

Linus Sinclair C / OF / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2029

Sinclair put together one of the top catching workouts of the event, showcasing a blend of defensive ability, athleticism, and offensive upside. He recorded the best pop times of the event at 1.93-2.05 while throwing 79 mph from behind the plate, consistently putting throws on the bag with carry. Sinclair also ran a 7.18 60-yard dash, moving well for a catcher and showing the athleticism to profile in a corner outfield role if needed down the road. At the plate, Sinclair displayed present power potential, posting a 95.1 mph max exit velocity with a 371-foot max batted distance. His swing works on an uphill path, looking to lift the baseball with backspin and drive it with authority.

Erick Villeda OF / 1B / Eastlake, CA / 2027

Villeda carried the momentum from a strong spring season into another impressive all-around workout. He opened the day with a 6.71 60-yard dash, continuing to show better athleticism than typically expected from a corner profile. At the plate, Villeda produced a 102.3 mph max exit velocity while averaging an impressive 93.3 mph, consistently driving the baseball to all fields. He also flashed pull-side power with a 363-foot max batted distance and a 71.4% hard-hit rate, reinforcing the impact potential in the bat. Defensively, Villeda recorded an 85 mph arm from the outfield and projects well as a corner outfielder, where his arm strength and offensive profile fit naturally.

Kona Bainum OF / Fusion Academy - Huntington Beach, CA / 2027

Bainum showed some of the more noticeable physical development from last year's NorCal Preseason All-State event, arriving with a much stronger build that now checks in at over 200 pounds. The added strength has translated well to the field without sacrificing athleticism, as Bainum still turned in a 6.93 60-yard dash. Defensively, he recorded an 85 mph outfield arm and profiles as a long-term left or right fielder. At the plate, Bainum posted a 98.8 mph max exit velocity while averaging 89 mph, working with a slight uphill swing path that produced a consistent mix of line drives and fly balls. The added physicality has elevated the offensive profile, and there is legitimate power potential as he continues to refine the swing and approach.
