Team Carolina Trials Charleston 2026: Quick Hitters - Pitchers

Sammy Esposito
PB SC Director of Scouting

On Tuesday, June 2nd, Prep Baseball of South Carolina hosted the Team South Carolina Trials at The College of Charleston in Charleston, SC.  This event serves as a key evaluation platform, helping identify prospects for several of the summer’s premier invite-only showcases, including the PB Senior Games, Top Prospect Games, PB Junior Future Games, PB Senior Future Games, and the PB Future Games.  The Trials featured players from the Class of 2027 through the Class of 2020.

During the event, position players participated in a professional-style workout that included a comprehensive defensive evaluation. Infielders and outfielders fielded ground balls and made throws, with arm strength recorded using a Stalker radar gun. Catchers executed throws to second base, with both arm strength and pop times measured.

Hitters underwent swing analysis with Blast Motion, while all ball flight data was recorded using TrackMan.  Speed and explosiveness were assessed through Vald Performance lasers, capturing 10-30-60-yard sprint splits, along with jump metrics.

Pitchers threw a controlled bullpen session, where each pitch was tracked by TrackMan to analyze ball movement and overall performance.

Below is a statistical breakdown from the event.

QUICK HITTERS - PITCHERS

John Dahlberg 1B / LHP / Ashley Ridge, SC / 2029

Left handed pitcher with one of the more advanced arms in the 2029 group.  Long, projectable 6-foot-2 frame with plenty of room for added strength.  Fastball worked 79.5-82.9, touching 83.8, with advanced characteristics for the age.  The pitch generated over 2200 rpm and showed quality carry through the zone, producing a 100% strike rate during the session. Velocity from the left side already separates him from many peers in the class.  The breaking ball sits 73 to 74 with above-average spin, flashing sharp action and the ability to miss barrels when located.  Mixed in another breaking ball in the 72 range with a different shape, giving him multiple looks against hitters. Changeup worked 76-77 with developing fade and action to project as a usable third offering.  The combination of present velocity, strike throwing, spin profile, and left-handedness makes Dahlberg one of the more intriguing young pitching prospects in attendance. As the frame continues to mature, there is significant upside remaining in the arsenal.

Jaxson Rzemyk RHP / OF / atlantic collegiate, SC / 2027

6-5, 185-pound right hander with a highly projectable frame and significant physical upside remaining.  The combination of length, leverage, and arm speed makes him an intriguing follow in the 2027 class.  Fastball worked 85-86 mph with quality strike throwing, landing 80% of his pitches for strikes.  The pitch showed solid carry metrics and played well out of his long release, creating difficult angles for hitters.  Velocity already plays above average for the class, and there is room for more as strength continues to develop.  The breaking ball sat 72-74 mph with above-average spin, showing depth and late action when executed.  It projects as a legitimate secondary weapon and gives him a pitch capable of generating chase and swing-and-miss.  The frame, present velocity, strike throwing ability, and quality breaking ball all point toward a pitcher with substantial upside.  As he continues to add strength and expand the arsenal, Rzemyk has the ingredients evaluators look for in a young projection arm.

Maddox Nuckols RHP / SS / Augusta Christian, GA / 2028

Compact, athletic right hander with a fast arm and advanced pitchability for the class.  Nuckols continues to outperform the frame with a combination of stuff, strike throwing, and feel for spin.  Fastball worked 86-87 mph and generated an 80% strike rate.  The pitch shows quality life through the zone and already sits in an advanced velocity range for a 2028 graduate.  His ability to consistently land the fastball gives the entire arsenal room to play up.  The separator is the breaking ball.  Sitting 72-74 mph with spin rates reaching over 2700 rpm, the pitch flashes well above-average characteristics for the age.  It shows sharp depth and late action, projecting as a true swing-and-miss offering.  He also mixed a second breaking ball at 74-75 mph with similarly impressive spin metrics, giving hitters multiple shapes and looks.  The combination of advanced velocity, elite spin traits, and strike throwing ability makes Nuckols one of the more intriguing young arms in the region.  The stuff already plays, and his feel to execute suggests there is more growth ahead as he continues to mature physically.

Brady Quirk RHP / SS / Fort Dorchester, SC / 2028

One of the more dynamic two-way prospects in the 2028 class. The athleticism jumps off the page, elite acceleration metrics, and a projectable 6-foot-2 frame. The arm talent showed equally well on the mound.  Fastball worked 88.9-89.7 mph, with advanced carry characteristics and over 2200 rpm.  The pitch generated a 75% strike rate and came out of the hand with ease.  Velocity at this age already places him among the more notable arms in the class, and the athleticism suggests there is more in the tank.  The breaking ball sat 76-78 mph with over 2400 rpm and flashed sharp two-plane action.  The pitch projects as a legitimate swing-and-miss weapon as he continues to refine command and consistency.  He also showed an advanced changeup at 81-85 mph with strong arm speed and a 75% strike rate.  The pitch plays well off the fastball and gives him a quality third offering.  The combination of a near-90 mph fastball, advanced secondary stuff, strike throwing ability, and premium athletic traits makes Quirk one of the higher-upside young arms in South Carolina's 2028 class.

Jordan Scott 3B / RHP / North Augusta, SC / 2028

Physical right hander with a strong 5-foot-11, 215-pound frame and present strength throughout.  The power profile is evident both offensively and on the mound, where he showed one of the better fastballs in attendance.  Fastball worked 84.8-86.4 mph, touching 86.7, with solid life through the zone and spin rates north of 2100 rpm.  The velocity already plays at an above-average level for the 2028 class, and the pitch shows enough movement to create uncomfortable at-bats when located.  The breaking ball sat 70-72 mph with over 2450 rpm, producing some of the better spin characteristics in the event.  The pitch showed sharp depth and projects as a potential out pitch as consistency improves.  He also mixed a changeup at 78 mph with developing feel and good velocity separation from the breaking ball.  The arm strength and breaking ball stand out immediately.  Continued development of strike efficiency and overall command will be key, but the raw stuff gives Scott a high ceiling on the mound moving forward.

Milo Stranninger RHP / OF / Greer, SC / 2029

Extra-large frame at 6-foot-3, 226 pounds with present strength and physicality.  The size immediately stands out, and there is power potential in the arm as he continues to refine his delivery and overall consistency.  Fastball worked 79.5-82.2 mph, touching 82.5, while filling the zone at a 67% strike rate.  The pitch showed occasional arm-side life and played best when worked to the lower half of the zone.  Given the size and strength already present, there is reason to believe more velocity is ahead as he continues to develop.  Breaking ball sat 68-69 mph with developing shape and enough depth to generate weak contact.  He also mixed a firm changeup at 74-78 mph with good velocity separation from the fastball and flashes of arm-side action.  The profile is built around physicality and projection.  The frame, present velocity, and ability to throw multiple pitches for strikes give Stranninger an interesting foundation.  As command sharpens and the arsenal continues to mature, there is upside remaining in the arm.
