Team South Carolina Trials Columbia 2026: Trackman Hitting Leaders

On Wednesday, July 1st, Prep Baseball of South Carolina hosted the Team South Carolina Trials at The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.  This event serves as a key evaluation platform, helping identify prospects for several of the summer’s premier invite-only showcases, including the PB Senior Games, Top Prospect Games, PB Junior Future Games, PB Senior Future Games, and the PB Future Games.  The Trials featured players from the Class of 2027 through the Class of 2029.

During the event, position players participated in a professional-style workout that included a comprehensive defensive evaluation. Infielders and outfielders fielded ground balls and made throws, with arm strength recorded using a Stalker radar gun. Catchers executed throws to second base, with both arm strength and pop times measured.

Hitters underwent swing analysis with Blast Motion, while all ball flight data was recorded using TrackMan.  Speed and explosiveness were assessed through Vald Performance lasers, capturing 10-30-60-yard sprint splits, along with jump metrics.

Pitchers threw a controlled bullpen session, where each pitch was tracked by TrackMan to analyze ball movement and overall performance.

AVERAGE EXIT VELOCITY

The average exit velocity measures a players ability to consistently produce hard contact.  The average was taken based on every ball tracked by TrackMan throughout the player's BP session.

TrackMan is able to measure and track the ball while in the air.  For every fair ball put in play it will display the distance the hit traveled.

LAUNCH ANGLE PERCENTAGE

Based on the ball flight, TrackMan is able to identify each hit as a ground ball, line drive, or fly ball.  While there are many factors as to why a hitter may approach each pitch in a certain way, the overall groupings of BP can give some insight to each hitter's approach.
