August 18, 2026
Baton Rouge, LA - On August 15-16, 2026, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to Alex Box Stadium for the 2026 Texas/Louisiana Super Sophomore Games. Over 70 prospects combined from Louisiana and Texas in the 2029 class were able to compete against each other at one of the premier facilities in the entire country. Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60-yard dash using Vald Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball. Below, we take a look at the Louisiana pitchers that caught our eye from this past weekend.

Hunter Mauk RHP / Catholic, LA / 2029At 6-foot-5, 175 pounds, Mauk possesses a long, projectable frame with plenty of room to add strength as he matures. The Catholic BR right-hander filled up the strike zone with a three-pitch mix, working his fastball in the 83-86 mph range and showing good extension down the mound. His 78-80 mph changeup was his best secondary offering, showing late fading action, while he also mixed in a 74-78 mph breaking ball that reached 2,574 RPM. There’s considerable upside here as Mauk continues to physically mature, making him another talented arm coming through the pipeline for the Bears.

Weston Landry 3B / RHP / Sulphur, LA / 2029Landry turned in a strong outing in Game 2, tossing a pair of shutout innings with two strikeouts. The 5-foot-11, 187-pound right-hander repeated a simple, controlled delivery and showed a quick arm, running his fastball up to 89 mph while working mostly in the 84-88 mph range. Landry also displayed feel for a pair of distinct breaking balls, landing a 70-72 mph curveball and a 73-75 mph slider that reached 2,366 RPM. The combination of strikes, arm speed, and feel for multiple pitches makes Landry an intriguing arm to follow in Louisiana’s 2029 class.

His fastball worked in the 87-89 mph range, while mixing in a 72-74 mph curveball and 78-79 mph changeup. Sweat also made an impact offensively, finishing the event 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

Tate Underwood SS / RHP / Benton High School, LA / 2029Underwood was one of the more intriguing arms we saw over the weekend, showing a polished three-pitch mix across his two innings of work. The 6-foot, 155-pound right-hander is a good athlete with plenty of physical projection remaining and showed the ability to land all three offerings in any count. His fastball worked in the 84-86 mph range, while his 71-73 mph slider gave hitters a different look, but it was his 78-79 mph changeup that really stood out, as he threw it with confidence to both right-handed and left-handed hitters. Underwood’s athleticism, pitchability, and projection make him a high-upside arm to follow in Louisiana’s 2029 class.

He also showed feel for a 77-78 mph changeup, giving him a quality third offering to keep hitters off balance. Battard’s ability to confidently mix all three pitches makes him another intriguing arm to follow in Louisiana’s 2029 class.

His 73-74 mph changeup was a quality secondary offering that he showed good feel for, while also mixing in a 70-72 mph curveball. Gleason’s size, strike-throwing ability, and three-pitch mix make him an intriguing southpaw to follow in Louisiana’s 2029 class.

Cade Cascio OF / RHP / Barbe, LA / 2029Cascio showed off his two-way upside over the weekend, including a scoreless inning of relief in Game 4. The Barbe right-hander attacked hitters with a heavy 87-90 mph fastball that reached nearly 2,500 RPM and paired it with a well-spun 76-78 mph slider.
