Uncommitted Spotlight: '27 1B/LHP Kupono Barkdull
August 17, 2026
Kupono Barkdull
Kupono Barkdull continues to be an uncommitted name worth following in Hawai'i's 2027 class after representing the state at the 2025 Prep Baseball Future Games. The Kamehameha Kapalama LHP/1B owns a strong 6-foot-3, 229.1-pound frame and has shown enough on both sides of the ball to keep the two-way profile in play.
Offensively, the strength plays naturally from the left side with the ability to create leverage and drive the baseball with authority. On the mound, Barkdull gives hitters a tough look with a fastball that has shown carry through the zone and a developing mix behind it. Both parts of the profile have shown up in meaningful game action this spring.
Barkdull's offensive profile is centered around the strength in the left-handed bat. He creates leverage through contact and has enough present strength to drive the baseball when he gets the barrel extended, giving him real power potential from the first-base position.
That power showed up this spring when Barkdull left the yard for Kamehameha to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. It was a good look at the type of damage he can produce when he gets a pitch out over the plate, with the size and strength already present to impact the baseball without needing an overly aggressive swing.

The mound side gives Barkdull another avenue moving forward. The fastball has shown carry and life through all parts of the zone and plays well out of the hand, giving him a pitch he can use to challenge hitters confidently while continuing to develop the secondary mix around it. Found himself in many of Kamehameha's close games this year.

Strong-bodied 6-foot-3, 229.1-pound L/L prospect with legitimate two-way value. At the plate, Barkdull shows present strength with leverage through contact and the ability to produce power to the pull side. On the mound, the fastball has shown carry through the zone with a developing secondary mix, while his spring usage has shown the ability to take the ball in meaningful innings.
Coming off a Future Games appearance in 2025, Barkdull has continued to show pieces of the profile in game action this spring. The left-handed power stands out offensively, while the mound ability gives the uncommitted 2027 another path to contribute at the next level.
