Since first attending a Prep Baseball event in May of 2024, Jerome Kalanui has continued to make steady gains across his profile. The Maui outfielder has grown from 5-foot-10, 142 pounds into a long, lean 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame while adding strength, impact and athleticism along the way.

The progress has shown up throughout his event history and transfered over into live action. His max exit velocity has climbed from 79.1 mph to 100.3 mph, his 60-yard time has dropped from 7.35 to 6.93 and his outfield velocity has now reached 88 mph. With multiple looks over the past two years, the numbers provide a clear picture of a left-handed-hitting outfielder who has made steady progress and still has much more in the tank. 

This article highlights Kalanui’s progression across multiple events through both showcase evaluations and in-game looks.

DEVELOPMENT SINCE MAY 2024

Kalanui's first Prep Baseball appearance came at the BIWBA Memorial Day Tournament Scout Day on May 25, 2024. He checked in at 5-foot-10, 142 pounds and recorded a 79.1 mph max exit velocity.

Five months later, he had grown to 6-foot, 148 pounds at the Maui Open ID. By the following summer, Kalanui arrived at the 2025 Hawai'i State Games at 6-foot-3, 166 pounds and produced a noticeable jump in offensive impact, reaching 92.2 mph in max exit velocity with a best distance of 335 feet.

He continued to add strength through the fall and winter, reaching 97 mph at the West Coast Games and 99.4 mph at the 2026 Hawai'i Preseason All-State. At the 2026 Hawai'i State Games, Kalanui broke through the 100 mph mark for the first time while also posting personal bests in the 60-yard dash and outfield velocity.

The most noticeable gains have come at the plate, where Kalanui's max and average exit velocity has increased at each event since October of 2024. These numbers have jumped naturally with strength as the swing has gotten more effortless with each look. 

Kalanui impressed during his most recent look with a smooth left-handed stroke and natural pop. The swing works with little effort, creating backspin to all fields and carrying several balls out to the opposite-field gap and over the fence during batting practice.

The physical progression has been just as steady. Kalanui has grown five inches and added nearly 33 pounds since May of 2024, with his weight continuing to climb after reaching 6-foot-3 during the summer of 2025.

While filling out the frame, Kalanui has continued to become a more athletic mover. His 60-yard time has moved from 7.35 in October of 2024 to 6.93 at the 2026 Hawai'i State Games. The improvement has carried through each portion of the run, with personal bests of 1.65 in the 10-yard split and 3.85 at 30 yards.

His 23-inch vertical and 19.9 mph max run speed were also personal bests, adding to the athletic profile as the frame has continued to mature.

Kalanui's arm strength has followed a similar path, reaching a personal-best 88 mph from the outfield at the 2026 Hawai'i State Games. The ball comes out clean with natural carry.
