Arizona Future Games Recap: Class of 2028

EMERSON, GA – 25 of Arizona’s top 2028 prospects made the trip to LakePoint Sports on July 22–25 to represent Team Arizona at the 2026 Prep Baseball Future Games. Competing in front of more than 495 college coaches and scouts, Arizona’s representatives showcased their abilities during the pro-style workout and game action at one of the country’s premier recruiting events. Below, we take a deeper look at each player’s performance, the tools that stood out and the areas they can continue to develop.

Andres Armenta OF / Casteel, AZ / 2028The athletic 6'0, 174-pound outfielder consistently found the barrel at LakePoint, producing several 90-plus mph balls despite the box score not reflecting the quality of his contact. Andres averaged 94 mph off the bat with an 88 percent hard-hit rate and ran a 6.67 60-yard dash during the workout. He made the most of his opportunity with Team Hawaii, competing through hamstring discomfort throughout the week.

Ryder Bell LHP / Hamilton, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 9 / POS: 2
The 5'10, 175-pound left-hander delivered a scoreless outing, striking out two without issuing a walk. Working quickly from a low 3/4 slot, Ryder attacked the zone with a short, whippy arm action and advanced feel for a four-pitch mix. His fastball reached 86 mph with nearly 19 inches of horizontal movement, while his secondaries played well from a consistent release window. A composed competitor and quality teammate, his next step is adding strength and creating more separation between his two breaking balls.

Christian Estrella OF / RHP / Corona Del Sol, AZ / 2028The athletic 6'4, 222-pound bat-first prospect impacted the game on both sides of the ball. CJ finished 2-for-7 with two walks and only one strikeout, showing a mature approach, two-strike adjustability and consistent bat-to-ball skills against high-level pitching. He ran a 6.76 60-yard dash and threw 95 mph from the outfield, an impressive combination at his size. On the mound, his fastball reached 93 mph with strong carry as he struck out three of the five hitters he faced. One of the purest hitters in the state, CJ should have no shortage of calls on August 1.

Chase Fillman OF / LHP / Millennium, AZ / 2028The physical 6'1, 224-pound left-handed hitter delivered one of Team Arizona’s top offensive performances, finishing 4-for-9 with two doubles, a home run and only two strikeouts. Chase continues to produce against high-level pitching, combining bat speed, strength and feel for the barrel with power to all fields. His offensive tools include an 81 mph max bat speed and 106 mph exit velocity, while his two-way ability was evident with a fastball that reached 91.5 mph and produced 19 inches of induced vertical break. Improving his quickness and defensive mobility will further strengthen an already advanced profile. Chase’s left-handed impact should draw significant interest from college programs on August 1.

Jacob Gabbel SS / Red Mountain, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 26 / POS: 9
The 5'10, 155-pound left-handed hitter reached base in six of eight plate appearances, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, four walks and no strikeouts. Jacob controlled the zone, produced quality at-bats and used a line-drive approach to keep pressure on the defense. His 6.64 speed played in game action with three stolen bases and an aggressive approach to taking the extra 90 feet. A high-motor player with strong instincts, adding strength and improving his defensive arm will further round out his skill set.

Max Gamboa SS / OF / Desert Ridge, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 2
The 5'7, 164-pound left-handed hitter finished 2-for-6 with two home runs, three walks and only one strikeout. Max plays hard and fast, pairing a mature approach with game-changing power and an 88 mph arm across the infield. His even-keeled presence, natural leadership and blue-collar mentality make him a player teammates follow and coaches trust. Improved straight-line speed and range could push him toward becoming one of the breakout players in Arizona’s 2028 class.

Sammy Garcia SS / Hamilton, AZ / 2028Sammy did not record a hit but reached base three times through walks and added a stolen base. His biggest impact came defensively, where he played error-free baseball and handled every opportunity with smooth actions and a 90 mph arm across the infield. His offensive results never affected his defense, effort or body language, making it impossible to tell whether he was 4-for-4 or 0-for-4. That temperament will play at the next level, and greater consistency against high-level pitching will help his complete game emerge.

Conner Hansen OF / 1B / Saguaro, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 7
The 6'0, 182-pound right-handed hitter showed his offensive upside during the workout, averaging 97 mph off the bat with an 83 percent hard-hit rate. Conner recorded one hit during game action but continued to show his athleticism with a 6.81 60-yard dash and the ability to cover ground across the field. His energy, work ethic and feel for the game remained consistent regardless of his results. Trusting his approach and controlling the strike zone will allow his natural strength to show up more often against high-level pitching.

Evan Hedlund LHP / Casteel, AZ / 2028The 5'10, 163-pound left-hander worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out two and generating weak contact. Evan attacked hitters from a low 3/4 slot with an athletic delivery, even-keeled temperament and advanced feel for four pitches. His fastball reached 89 mph with nearly 19 inches of horizontal movement, complemented by a slider, curveball and changeup. He grew more efficient as the outing progressed, settling in and trusting his stuff in the zone. Added strength and greater separation between his breaking balls should help one of Arizona’s top 2028 left-handers continue trending upward.

Oliver Higgins LHP / Canyon View, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 39 / POS: 4
The 5'10, 165-pound left-hander reached new personal bests at LakePoint, running his fastball up to 87 mph with more than 20 inches of horizontal movement. Oliver repeated a loose, athletic delivery from a 3/4 slot with good direction to the plate. His 2,600 rpm slider landed for strikes and generated chase, while his changeup provided a third option at 79 to 81 mph. He battled difficult conditions without excuses, showing the toughness to bite down, take the ball and compete. Improved command and added strength will allow his three-pitch mix to play at a higher level.

Hudson Holcomb LHP / Brophy College Prep, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 3
The physical 6'3, 211-pound left-hander struck out three over two innings while continuing to build back into form. Hudson repeated a short, quick arm action from a 3/4 slot, running his fastball up to 87 mph with nearly 19 inches of induced vertical break. He paired it with a curveball at 75 to 77 mph and a firmer slider that reached 79 mph, giving hitters multiple shapes to account for. His size, arm speed and fastball carry provide a strong foundation, with improved command and greater separation between the breaking balls representing the next steps.

Jack Lane RHP / OF / American Leadership Academy - Queen Creek, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 45 / POS: 4
The long-limbed 6'1, 161-pound right-hander has considerable physical projection remaining. Jack ran his fastball up to 85 mph, showing improved velocity from the winter with 22 inches of induced vertical break and more than 17 inches of horizontal movement. His curveball stood out at 72 to 74 mph with tight action and up to 2,718 rpm, while a low-spin splitter gave hitters a different look. Added strength and more consistent command of his secondaries should allow his high-movement arsenal to continue progressing.

Jackson Leigh RHP / Pinnacle, AZ / 2028The lean, projectable 6'4, 187-pound right-hander delivered an encouraging outing after missing much of the year. Jackson ran his fastball up to 93 mph from a high 3/4 to over-the-top slot, showing arm speed and carry through the zone. He repeated his delivery with a developing four-pitch mix, though his curveball and slider blended together at times. Clearer separation between the breaking balls and improved overall command will help this high-upside arm make significant gains as he returns to full strength.

Cooper LeRoy RHP / Perry, AZ / 2028The wiry 6'4, 185-pound right-hander dominated eight hitters, allowing no hits or runs while striking out three. Cooper worked from a low 3/4 slot with a loose, whippy arm, running his fastball up to 92 mph with 17 inches of horizontal movement. His changeup mirrored the fastball with 16 inches of arm-side run, while an 81 mph slider moved in the opposite direction, creating an effective three-pitch tunnel that produced whiffs and weak contact. A hard-nosed competitor with starter traits, Coop will have much to consider come August 1st.

Jack Masi RHP / Liberty, AZ / 2028
The physical 5'10, 185-pound right-hander battled through a heavy downpour without allowing the conditions to affect his effort or composure. Jack attacked hitters from an over-the-top slot, running his fastball up to 85 mph with natural arm-side run. His slider reached 2,545 rpm, while a changeup with heavy fade gave hitters another look. Maintaining a consistent release point will help his three-pitch mix play up and complement the bulldog mentality he brings to the mound.

Jameson Mohler C / OF / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 1
The athletic 6'0, 187-pound catcher finished 2-for-8 with a double during game action. Jameson paired 79 mph bat speed with a 6.76 60-yard dash, bringing athleticism and speed to the position. Behind the plate, he received well, kept the ball in front and provided a steady presence for the pitching staff. His ability to also handle the outfield adds valuable versatility to his profile.

Mattox Murray SS / Canyon View, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 6
The 5'11, 182-pound infielder delivered one of Arizona’s strongest all-around performances, finishing 4-for-7 with a double, a walk and three stolen bases. Mattox’s best at-bat came with two outs and two strikes, when he stayed on a 92 mph fastball and drove it the other way for an RBI single. His quick hands, mature approach and 6.67 speed allowed him to pressure opponents in multiple ways. Adding more impact at the plate and refining his actions at shortstop will further strengthen his versatile profile.

Max Nibarger OF / SS / Perry, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 15 / POS: 6
The 6'2, 185-pound switch hitter reached base six times, finishing 1-for-4 with five walks and four stolen bases. Max controlled the strike zone, remained disciplined and used his athleticism and instincts to create pressure once aboard. Defensively, he has the glove to handle the infield and the speed and 93 mph arm to profile well in the outfield. Developing more consistent offensive impact from both sides will complete an athletic, versatile profile.

Ian Palumbo OF / Brophy Prep, AZ / 2028The athletic 6'2, 191-pound left-handed hitter finished 2-for-6 with a double, three walks and three stolen bases. Ian’s 6.48 speed created immediate pressure, while his 91 mph outfield arm gave him another impact tool defensively. He also showed 77 mph bat speed and an 80 percent hard-hit rate, with every ball he put in play during game action registering above 90 mph. Cutting down on swing and miss while maintaining his patient approach will allow his impressive tools to show up more consistently.

McGuire Ryan OF / SS / Perry, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 8
The 6'0, 186-pound right-handed hitter finished 1-for-5 with a double, a walk and only one strikeout. McGuire showed a controlled approach with good rhythm and timing, consistently putting pressure on the defense. His versatility adds value, though he profiles best in the outfield, where his 88 mph arm produces accurate throws with carry. Improved quickness and more consistent impact contact will strengthen his well-rounded profile.

Adrian Sisco C / 3B / Perry, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 2
The 5'11, 179-pound right-handed hitter finished 1-for-6 with a double, two walks and only one strikeout. Adrian worked tirelessly behind the plate, showing toughness while providing a steady presence for the pitching staff. He controlled the running game with pop times of 1.89 to 1.94 seconds and consistently kept pitches in front of him. His defensive reliability and competitive at-bats made him a valuable piece for Team Arizona.

Mikey Stortz RHP / Millennium, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 2
The athletic, projectable 6'3, 195-pound right-hander delivered one of his strongest looks to date. Mikey worked from a deceptive 3/4 slot and ran his fastball up to 88 mph, more than four mph above his February best. His slider also jumped to 78 mph with 2,520 rpm, giving him a swing-and-miss offering alongside a changeup and sinker. He worked ahead and commanded his secondaries in multiple counts, with added strength and continued velocity gains likely to elevate the entire mix.

Troy Tewers 3B / RHP / Liberty, AZ / 2028The physical 6'0, 209-pound bat-first prospect delivered one of the sharpest innings of the weekend, retiring all three hitters he faced with two strikeouts. Troy worked from a repeatable delivery and mid-to-low 3/4 slot, running his fastball up to 89 mph with a loose, whippy arm. His 2,638 rpm slider was the separator, showing more than 21 inches of horizontal break and advanced command to both sides. A 96 mph average exit velocity and 91 percent hard-hit rate during BP highlight his offensive upside, while his blue-collar mentality and ability on the mound strengthen his two-way profile.

Chase Waterbury SS / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2028Rankings StateRank: 23 / POS: 8
The 5'10, 159-pound infielder finished 2-for-9 with only one strikeout, consistently putting the ball in play and forcing the defense to make plays. Chase showed a direct path, solid bat speed and the ability to cover the zone with two strikes. He provided steady defense across the infield, handling routine opportunities with sure hands. His game may not feature much flash, but his reliability plays, and added strength should lead to more impact contact.

Austin Webb RHP / Notre Dame Prep, AZ / 2028The strong 6'0, 204-pound right-hander showed a promising sinker-slider profile built to generate weak contact. Austin worked from a true 3/4 slot and ran his fastball up to 88 mph with more than 21 inches of horizontal movement. His slider broke in the opposite direction with up to 15 inches of movement, while an arm-side changeup at 79 to 80 mph completed the mix. He remained even-keeled through inconsistent command, and sharpening his location while sustaining his velocity, as he has shown in the past, will make his starter traits more evident.
