Prep Baseball Report

2026 Oregon Summer ID - Data Dives

Dylan Grenz
Assistant Scouting Director

On Tuesday June 23rd, Prep Baseball Oregon hosted the Oregon Summer ID at Linfield University. Prep Baseball scouts evaluated high school athletes in the 2027-2030 graduating classes, with several strong showings throughout the event.

Summer ID events serve as an important tool for both Prep Baseball scouts and college recruiters, who will subsequently create lists of prospects to follow as they plan their remaining summer coverage. We often tend to see prospects' best showings at Summer ID events, as players are fresh off playing for their respective high schools and are in the routine that consistently playing in-game offers. Standout performances can lend invites to some of the summer's top events, including the 2026 Pacific Northwest State Games.

Earlier, we released our Statistical Analysis, showcasing leaders in major stat categories. Today, we unveil our Data Dives, looking specifically at leaders in position player and pitching data. For all other post-event content, click here.

VIZUAL EDGE

EDGE SCORE

The Edge Score is a comprehensive score out of 100 that takes the core-six visual skills into account, providing athletes, parents, coaches and scouts with a benchmark number for assessing an athlete’s overall visual ability. In general the higher the Edge Score, the higher chance of athletic success. Think of the Edge Score as the 'Sixth Metric' in the standard Five-Tools that make up a ball player.

The average Edge Score for the 2020 MLB Draft Class was 79.3 (of hitters who completed a Vizual Edge test). MLB players we've worked with typically show stronger scores, with elite hitters scoring consistently above 87.0 on their Edge Score.

PEAK FB VELOCITY

EFFECTIVE FB VELOCITY AVG

Effective velocity is taking into account the velocity of each pitch, its release distance, the pitches time to the plate / hitting area, and the pitches movement.  With all of this information, Effective Velocity is allowing coaches and scouts to more accurately compare how a pitch is affecting a hitter.
