WIAA Diamond Notes: Week 8

Each week, WIAA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the Prep Baseball Wisconsin Player of the Week and Prep Baseball Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week honors. Wednesday, we awarded the Week 8 Player of the Week to C Gerrit Wittmann (Little Chute, 2027), Wittmann went 6-for-10, with three home runs, ten RBIs, and three runs in three games. The Pitcher of the Week is RHP Drew Gage (Stratford, 2026), on the week, the right-hander made a start and a relief appearance, tossing eight total innings, allowing one run, on three hits and one walk, while striking out 17.
There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.
Week 8 Diamond Notes
+ Parker Fischer, LHP (Random Lake, 2028):
Fischer made one appearance on the mound against Heritage Christian, pitching six innings. He turned in a stellar performance by allowing no runs, only one hit, and two walks while striking out 14 batters.
+ Evan Harbort, RHP (Cambridge, 2028):
Harbort pitched a complete game shutout against Wisconsin Heights. In his seven innings of work, he allowed no runs, four hits, and zero walks while striking out 10 batters.
+ Joe Graveen, SS (Wausau West, 2026):
Graveen excelled on both sides of the ball this week. At the plate, he went 7-for-10 with four walks, one double, three RBIs, and three stolen bases. On the mound against Wausau East, he pitched 6.2 innings, allowing no runs, three hits, and zero walks while striking out eight batters.
+ Kolton Haupt, RHP (Stratford, 2027):
Haupt made one appearance on the mound against Tomahawk, tossing seven innings. He allowed no runs, five hits, and one walk while striking out four batters.
+ Jacob Coopman, LHP (Menasha, 2026):
Coopman made two starts on the mound against New London and Plymouth, totaling 12 innings. He was dominant, allowing no runs, four hits, and five walks while striking out 24 batters.
+ Isaac Teisl, SS (Mukwonago, 2026):
Teisl had a highly productive week at the plate, going 6-for-9 while being hit by a pitch twice. He recorded one double and two home runs, driving in eight runs and stealing two bases.
+ Alex Michna, OF/RF (New Berlin Eisenhower , 2027):
Michna had a near-perfect week at the dish, going 9-for-10 with three walks. He hit two doubles and a home run, driving in five runs and recording three stolen bases. He also hit a key go-ahead home run to secure a run-rule victory over Lake Geneva Badger.
+ Kamm Nehmer, P/OF (New Glarus, 2028):
Nehmer put up strong numbers at the plate, going 6-for-8 with two walks. He recorded one double and three RBIs while also swiping one base.
+ Jesse Sobczak, LF (Catholic Memorial, 2027):
Sobczak was locked in offensively, going 8-for-10 at the plate. He contributed one double, six RBIs, and five stolen bases.
+ Jordan Mobry, CF (Columbus, 2026):
Mobry hit 3-for-6 during the week with one walk. He also drove in one run and recorded three stolen bases.
Brookfield Central
The Lancers finished last week 2-2, defeating Waukesha South and Menomonee Falls, losing to Pewaukee and Memononee falls. Below were some of their top performers.
+ Colton Semmelmann, LHP (Brookfield Central, 2026):
Semmelmann made one appearance on the mound against Menomonee Falls, pitching six innings. He allowed three hits, four walks, and one run while striking out 11 batters.
+ Vince Bitter, RHP (Brookfield Central, 2026):
Bitter also took the mound against Menomonee Falls, tossing six innings in his lone appearance. He allowed seven hits, three walks, and two runs while collecting six strikeouts.
+ Peyton Lenell, SS (Brookfield Central, 2026):
Lenell put up an excellent offensive performance, going 6-for-11 with five walks. He recorded two doubles and six RBIs while swiping three bases.
+ Thomas Deskins, C (Brookfield Central, 2027):
Deskins hit 4-for-9 at the plate during the week. He recorded one double, one triple, and drove in three runs.
Slinger
The Owls finished last week 2-2, splitting with Cedarburg, losing to Pewaukee, amd beating St. Joseph. Below were some of their top performers from last week.
+ Grant Klumb, RHP (Slinger, 2028):
Klumb made two starts on the mound against Cedarburg and Union Grove, totaling nine innings of work. He was highly effective, giving up five hits, three walks, and only one run while striking out 11 batters.
+ Brayden Zimmerman, 1B (Slinger, 2026):
Zimmerman went 4-for-12 at the dish with five walks. He tallied two doubles, one triple, and one home run, finishing the week with three RBIs and one stolen base.
+ Ethan Miller , C/3B (Slinger, 2027):
Miller logged a 6-for-14 week at the plate while drawing one walk. He picked up one double, five RBIs, and three stolen bases.
+ Grady Mechenich, OF (Slinger, 2027):
Mechenich hit 4-for-10 over the course of the week with two walks. He collected one triple, two RBIs, and one stolen base.
+ Payton Tennies, OF (Slinger, 2027):
Tennies put together a 4-for-12 week at the plate while showing great discipline to draw six walks. He drove in three runs and was aggressive on the bases, swiping eight stolen bases.
+ Gavin Sawyer, OF (Slinger, 2026):
Sawyer went 4-for-9 at the dish with three walks. He recorded two doubles and one stolen base during his weekly appearances.
