Inland Empire Summer ID: Player Analysis

On Tuesday, June 2nd, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Inland Empire Summer ID at Hart Park in Orange, Cal. This was an open event for all high school classes (2026-2030), and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top prospects.
Today, we’re taking a look at scouting reports on all of the prospects that attended the event.
PLAYER ANALYSIS
Gavin Carcelen, Los Osos High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: SS A 2-way profile with feel for the game. Showed he can play every position and has projectable stuff on the mound. Swing was short and compact, looking to backspin balls and do damage in the air
Body: 6-0, 166-pounds. Wiry and lengthy frame with room to fill. Quick actions.
Hit: RHH. Tall and balanced stance, a slight pre-load into the back hip. A toe tap load helps him create rhythm and timing. Hands are straight to the ball and stay on plane well. Backspins the ball well and showed pullside power.
Power: 91 mph max exit velocity (79.7 avg.); 305-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph. OF - 83 mph. Quick and whippy arm. Made accurate throws from the OF and INF. Showed he can make throws from all parts of the diamond.
Defense: In the OF he attacks the ball and takes choppy steps as he reads the hop. Clean transfers into a shuffle, shuffle throw. Showed fundamental actions in the INF, consistently reading hops and fielding the ball off the left side of his body.
Athletic Testing: 7.02 runner in the 60-yard dash; 22.20-inch max vertical jump.

Positional Profile: RHP A 2-way profile with feel for the game. Showed he can play every position and has projectable stuff on the mound. Swing was short and compact, looking to backspin balls and do damage in the air
Delivery: Athletic and smooth mechanics, immediately stacking his back leg during leg lift. Rides the slope well, firing the hips once his front foot lands. Energy is going towards the catcher, helping him get over his frontside.
Arm Action: RH. Loose and whippy arm. Slings it from a 3/4 slot and stays back long enough for his arm to get up on time.
FB: T82, 80-82 mph. Spun the FB well given the velocity metics, which will only improve with time and maturity. Also showed a sinker with major ASR. An avg of 16.4 inches horizontal movement paired with 11.7 inches of vertical movement grades out to be a true sinker profile. T2283, 2197 average rpm.
SL: 69-72 mph. A sweepy SL that tunnels off the FB well. The pitch showcased an avg of 11.1 inches of horizontal break with 7.2 inches of vertical break. A quality pitch that can project well given spin metrics (2,485 RPMs). T2485, 2189 average rpm.
CH: 73-74 mph. Has true feel for the CH, landing it in the zone 86% of the time. The pitch has similar fade and drop, creating a FB illusion. Can be a quality pitch to miss barells against both LHH and RHH. T2353, 1592 average rpm.
Alex Gott, Los Osos High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/LHP A projectable CF with a short and sweet swing. Showed quick traits with a sub-7 60 yard dash.
Body: 5-11.5, 145-pounds. Lengthy and proportional frame. Quick twitch
Hit: LHH. Balanced and athletic stance as he has a longer lead leg load. He hinges into the back hip, brings the hands up, and torques the bat. He starts his swing from a stop position, firing the lower half to clear room for the hands. Does a quality job getting extended, lifting the ball in the air and on a line. He consistently found the sweet spot of the bat (69%).
Power: 86 mph max exit velocity (73.4 avg.); 309-foot max batted distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 80 mph. An accurate arm with carry through the throw. Lower frontside as he releases the ball.
Defense: Reads hops well, taking his time to attack the ball to get the best hop possible. Clean transfer mechanics after fielding the ball off the lead leg.
Athletic Testing: 6.85 runner in the 60-yard dash; 22.80-inch max vertical jump.

Angel Herrera, University Preparatory (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: C/OF Catcher profile with a direct swing. Showed the ability to hit the ball on a line along with consistently accurate throws.
Body: 5-10.8, 177-pounds. Bigger and more physical frame. Strong lower half.
Hit: RHH. Relaxed and athletic setup, hands are up and near the back ear. A slight leg kick allows him to get his timing and firing the backside towards the ball. The hands follow and are direct to the ball. Gets on his frontside almost preforms a lead leg block of his front leg. Has a scissor kick lower half.
Power: 87 mph max exit velocity (78.8 avg.); 301-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 71 mph.Longer but accurate arm, putting his throws on a one hop and in the tag zone.
Defense: 2.12-2.28 pop time range; Pops up in an angled and 2-footed position. Gains ground towards his throw and shows smooth transfers.
Athletic Testing: 7.85 runner in the 60-yard dash; 19.50-inch max vertical jump.

Kai Huff, Army & Navy Academy (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: C/SS A projectable C/MIF with good hands and a big swing. Looking to do damage in the air with a gap to gap approach.
Body: 5-6.2, 162-pounds. Stockier frame with room to grow as he matures. Proportional build.
Hit: RHH. Upright and relaxed stance. Hands are high and lower into a stronger position as he loads with his lead leg. During his load he hinges into the back hip, creating natural hip shoulder separation. Catches the ball out infront well, allowing for producing damage in the air. Showcased multiple home runs in BP with a max distance of 354ft and an avg EV of 87.7mph
Power: 96 mph max exit velocity (87.7 avg.); 354-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 71 mph. INF - 78 mph.Short and quick arm, consistently putting the ball around his target. Ball has carry through the throw.
Defense: 2.11-2.19 pop time range; At C he starts in a one leg up position. Gains ground towards his throw, creating a natural angle. Showed strong hands, working down to up, consistently getting his thumb under the ball. Moves well in the INF, highlighted with a quick first step. Works well on the dirt, making the fundamental plays look fundamental.
Athletic Testing: 7.18 runner in the 60-yard dash; 18.90-inch max vertical jump.

Vincent Johns, Centennial High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: LHP/LHP A 4-pitch mix featuring a FB, CB, SL, and SPLT that help complement the FB. The CB and SL have similar pitch profiles but the SPLT helps offset each OS offering at a different look.
Body: 5-11.5, 159-pounds. A thin and projectable frame with long levers.
Delivery: Easy and repeatable mechanics. A drop and drive lower half allows him to ride the slope while staying in contact with the rubber. A longer stride helps create a natural stretch. Finishes well over the frontside.
Arm Action: LH. Whippy arm with a clean arm swing. Releases from a low 3/4 slot.
FB: T80, 77-79 mph. FB has ride throughout the zone, with more vertical break (12in) than horizontal break (-10in). Coming from a lower slot, the FB will get on hitters quick and give a rising illusion. T2093, 1995 average rpm.
CB: 66-68 mph. CB has a slight pop at release with a sweepy profile. The CB averaged 12.7in of horizontal break compared to -5.0in of vertical break, insinuating a sweepy CB. T2248, 2133 average rpm.
SL: 67-68 mph. A similar pitch to the CB, the SL is has a true sweeper profile with an avg of 18in of HM and -0.6 in of IVB. Velocity is also extremely similar to the CB, averaging 67mph. T2121, 2071 average rpm.
KN: 70-73 mph.
SPLT: 70-73 mph. A true splitter with extremely los spin and a strong metric profile. With -5in of HM and 7.5 in of IVB, the pitch tunnels well off the FB and can be a major pitch to offset RHH.
Joseph Keller, Damien (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: RHP/OF A 3-pitch arsenal featuring a FB, CB, and CH. Long levers help create whippy movements and deception through the delivery.
Body: 6-2.1, 170-pounds. Tall and lengthy frame, will grow into body as he matures.
Delivery: Easy mechanics until a more violent action as the front foot strikes. Drops into his backside as he rides the slope and swings his lead leg out in front. Times the frontside with front foot strike, allowing the arm to get up on time. Rotational delivery, as he finishes over his front foot.
Arm Action: RH. A longer arm path as he collects himself with a glove tap. Arm is whippy and comes from a 3/4 slot.
FB: T81, 79-81 mph. FB showed more ride than run with a max of 81mph. The pitch profile had an avg movement profile of 11.3in of IVB and 7.1in of HM. Heavy fastball. T2075, 2033 average rpm.
CB: 66-67 mph. A bigger CB with a 12-6 movement profile. Quality pitch that can either steal strikes early in the count or freeze a batter with 2ks. T2073, 2040 average rpm.
CH: 73-74 mph. A low spin CH showed more fade than depth with an avg of 9.0in of IVB and 14in of HM. Tunnels well off the FB and can be a quality pitch against LHH. T1808, 1690 average rpm.
Mason Kiemeney, Ontario Christian School (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP A 3-pitch mix featuring pitches that all complement each other. The FB has ASR that pairs with a smaller CB and slower CH.
Body: 6-2.3, 154-pounds. Tall and lengthy frame, projectable actions as he gains muscle and develops.
Delivery: Quality mover as he rides the slope while staying over his backside. Front hip opens up before front foot strike, slightly leaking potential energy. Stays over his toes well, taking his force production towards home plate.
Arm Action: RH. A longer but direct arm path, as he gets it up to a powerful position. Comes from a lower 3/4 slot.
FB: T73, 71-73 mph. Showed major ASR, with an average of 15.3in of HM and 8.2in of IVB. A true sinker/FB profile that runs in hard to RHH. Topped out at 73mph. T1712, 1649 average rpm.
CB: 61-63 mph. A tighter CB with late break. The CB has slightly more HM than IVB, giving it a more horizontal profile that complements his FB profile. T1769, 1734 average rpm.
CH: 65-69 mph. A quality CH that topped out at 70mph. Similar movement profile to the FB with 16in of HM and 5in of IVB. Has feel for the pitch in the zone. Tunnels well off the FB. T1912, 1797 average rpm.
Tyler Knox, Bishop Alemany (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Projectable MIF profile with strong hit tool and clean actions on the dirt. Showed a sub-7 60yd dash.
Body: 5-8, 139-pounds. Quick twitch and leaner frame. Room to fill throughout.
Hit: RHH. A relaxed and upright stance. Hands are quiet, and only move as the lower half initates the swing. A slight leg kick helps him gain ground towards the pitcher. Stays tall through the swing, staying in slot well producing a line drive swing.
Power: 93 mph max exit velocity (87.2 avg.); 331-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph.Short and whippy arm. Accurate throws with carry through the target.
Defense: Clean footwork, attacking and breaking down well. Consistently fielding the ball off the left side of his body.
Athletic Testing: 6.96 runner in the 60-yard dash; 21.20-inch max vertical jump.

Riely Loggins, Simi Valley High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: SS A 2-way profile with feel on the dirt. A smooth and direct swing paired with athletic motions on the mound. Will grow and develop with time.
Body: 5-10.8, 170-pounds. Proportional frame with room to fill. Athletic actions.
Hit: RHH. Tall and relaxed stance. Slightly open setup that closes off as he loads. Hinges in the back hip as he gains ground toward the pitcher, hands stay tall and ready to fire. Lower half performs a scissor kick action and starts the swing, clearing room for the hands to follow. Stays through the ball extremely well averaging 79% on plan efficiency, proving he can go to all parts of the field.
Power: 89 mph max exit velocity (78.4 avg.); 309-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 81 mph.Accurate arm, working quick to get the ball to his ear for a repeatable throwing delivery.
Defense: Quick first step, getting around the ball well. Breaks down after attacking the ball, consistently fielding off his left side.
Athletic Testing: 7.45 runner in the 60-yard dash; 19.00-inch max vertical jump.

Positional Profile: RHP A 2-way profile with feel on the dirt. A smooth and direct swing paired with athletic motions on the mound. Will grow and develop with time.
Delivery: Worked primarily out of the stretch, showing simple and repeatable mechanics. Rides the slope well and uses it to his advantage. Creates natural hip shoulder separation as his lower half stays closed through the motion. Opens up after front foot strike, creating energy towards home.
Arm Action: RH. A longer arm path that stops as it reaches the apex. Loose arm that comes from an over the top release point.
FB: T83, 82-83 mph. FB averaged 81.7mph and topped at 83.5mph. The pitch had true vertical ride and little horizontal movement. The pitch plays well up in the zone T2169, 2021 average rpm.
CB: 73-74 mph. A low spin CB has tight and little break (2.4 IVB and -0.5 HM). Tunnels well off the FB. T1334, 1228 average rpm.
SL: 74-75 mph. SL is a harder version of the CB, with slightly more vertical action. The SL has late break down in the zone, with little HM. T2208, 2175 average rpm.
CH: 78-78 mph. CH averaged 78mph with ride up in the zone paired with slight HM. Pitch highly reflects the FB, but with a 4mph speed difference. T1311, 1192 average rpm.
Rhett Lopez, Centennial High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/RHP A projectable MIF profile with a big and loud swing paired with feel on the dirt.
Body: 5-8.7, 162-pounds. Physical frame with room to grow. Long levers.
Hit: RHH. An athletic stance, heavily preloading into his back hip. Starts in a 80-20 weight split on his backside. A big toe tap load allows himself to get back to a more neutral position and subsequently firing the hands. Bigger and loud swing, translating to hard contact to the pull side. Average 87.2mph EV.
Power: 92 mph max exit velocity (87.2 avg.); 325-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 84 mph.Quick and repeatable arm action, ball has carry through the throw.
Defense: Attacks the ball, breaking down while reading for the easy hop. Has a longer throwing motion as he showed a shuffle, shuffle throw from the INF.
Athletic Testing: 7.40 runner in the 60-yard dash; 22.20-inch max vertical jump.

Ryan May, Upland High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: OF/RHP A CF profile with a short and tall swing paired with a strong arm in the OF. Showed a 6.86 60yd dash, proving he can cover range in the OF.
Body: 6-0.2, 159-pounds. Wiry frame with long levers. Room to fill.
Hit: LHH. A tall and closed off stance with relaxed hands. A small load with the front foot starts the swing. Lower half fires, clearing room for the hands. The taller stance lets him be direct to the ball and keep a quiet head. Generated strong bat speed metrics with a max of 67.2mph. A line drive swing at a 53.3% clip.
Power: 92 mph max exit velocity (81.4 avg.); 332-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 85 mph. Whippy and quick arm. Smooth motions from the OF that translated to easy and accurate throws.
Defense: Attacks the ball well, fielding off his lead leg. Clean transfers lead him into an easy shuffle, shuffle throw.
Athletic Testing: 6.86 runner in the 60-yard dash; 21.30-inch max vertical jump.

Cohen Mckeehan, Ontario Christian School (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/3B A left side of the INF profile, showing a powerful pullside swing. Clean actions on the dirt, athletic mover.
Body: 5-9.8, 174-pounds. Physical frame with a strong lower half. Proportional limbs.
Hit: RHH. Repeatable and balanced stance with a quick and small load. Brings the hands back and up during the load. Slightly cuts his lower half off, proving to have pull side power. Gets the hands extended which leads to him catching the ball out in front with authority.
Power: 95 mph max exit velocity (81.8 avg.); 334-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph.Quick and whippy arm, making accurate throws at a 100% clip.
Defense: Stays low throughout his fielding motion. Takes short steps to be able to react to a bad hop. Works low to high.
Athletic Testing: 6.99 runner in the 60-yard dash; 24.00-inch max vertical jump.

Brett Rawls, Murrieta Mesa High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: C/1B A versatile player who showed clean defensive actions behind the plate and at 1B. A strong swing, showed physcial upside to an imposing build.
Body: 6-3, 233-pounds. Big and physical frame. Dominant presence behind the plate and in the box.
Hit: RHH. Wide stance, pre-loaded into the back hip. A toe tap load helps him gain momentum towards the pitcher while torquing the bat. Lower half initiates the swing as his front foot lands. Hands follow the lower half, while being short to the ball. Consistently hits the ball hard (57%) and had a max distance of 352ft.
Power: 97 mph max exit velocity (87.5 avg.); 352-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 75 mph. INF - 77 mph.At C, his arm action is tight and compact, bringing the ball straight to his ear. Consistent accurate throws to 2B.
Defense: 2.13-2.26 pop time range; Behind the plate, he starts out in a one knee down position. Throughout the bullpen portion, he works low to high, stealing strikes at the bottom of the zone. At 1B, he showed clean actions on the dirt, making all the fundamental plays look fundamental.
Athletic Testing: 7.15 runner in the 60-yard dash; 24.00-inch max vertical jump.

David Ruiz, Arlington High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/RHP A young profile with mature actions to follow as he grows into his body.
Body: 5-7.2, 153-pounds. A smaller frame that he will grow into as he matures.
Hit: RHH. Shifts his weight back and forth through the setup, creating timing and rhythm. A small load, the lower half starts the swing allowing the hands room to clear. Hands are delayed, creating natural hip shoulder separation. Finishes high in a one hand position.
Power: 90 mph max exit velocity (74.5 avg.); 322-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 77 mph. A long arm path, looking to hit the cut on a line.
Defense: Attacks the ball well, fielding off his lead leg. Clean transfers allow him to make accurate throws.
Athletic Testing: 7.40 runner in the 60-yard dash; 18.10-inch max vertical jump.

Isaiah Seawright, Damien (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: RHP/OF A 3-pitch arsenal featuring a FB, SL, CH combo. The FB works well and sets up the other OS offerings. Showed true feel for the CH and spun the SL at a high rate.
Body: 5-11.6, 193-pounds. Proportional frame with a strong lower half. Athletic mover.
Delivery: Repeatable mechanics, working primarily out of the stretch. Stays back well, using the slope to his advantage. Linear lower half, taking his energy towards the catcher. Strong front side.
Arm Action: RH. Traditional arm swing, staying back long enough for the arm to get up on time and in a powerful position.
FB: T84, 82-84 mph. The pitch lived around 82-83, T84. He has a strong feel for the FB in the zone, which is able to set up his other OS pitches. T2230, 2102 average rpm.
SL: 75-75 mph. Spins the SL extremely well, averaging 2,582rpms. The SL has a sweepy profile, averaging -11.2 HM with -7.5 IVB. The pitch tunnels well off the FB and projects to be a quality pitch as he grows and matures. T2651, 2582 average rpm.
CH: 78-79 mph. Showed a quality CH that had both fade and depth. Showed extreme feel for the pitch in the zone, at a 100% clip. Also does a quality job killing spin, avg 1,321rpms which leads to added late depth movement. T1409, 1321 average rpm.
Grant Thomas, Rancho Cucamonga High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: 1B A physical player with strong feel for the game. The 2-way showed a true power swing paired with quality stuff on the mound. Will only refine his mechanics and get better with time.
Body: 6-1, 218-pounds. Big and physical frame. Long torso with a strong lower half.
Hit: RHH. Balanced and athletic stance. He is in a 60/40 weight shift, slightly hinged in the back hip. Hands start high with the bat already torqued. A small load, opening the front foot, the lower half fires, clearing room for the hands. A direct path to the ball and a quality bat speed (71.9mph), lead to one of the bigger swings of the day (381ft max distance). Max EV of 100.3mph
Power: 100 mph max exit velocity (91.7 avg.); 381-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 84 mph.Accurate and consistent throws to the tag zone, whippy arm.
Defense: Smooth actions on the dirt, stays low to the ground and works low to high.
Athletic Testing: 7.76 runner in the 60-yard dash; 17.60-inch max vertical jump.

Positional Profile: RHP A physical player with strong feel for the game. The 2-way showed a true power swing paired with quality stuff on the mound. Will only refine his mechanics and get better with time.

Arm Action: RH. Loose and easy arm, stays back well to give the arm time to get up in a powerful position. Comes in from a 3/4 slot.
FB: T87, 85-87 mph. FB has ride up in the zone. The pitch topped at 86.7mph, but lived 85-86 throughout the bullpen. An effective pitch with 16.8in of IVB paired with 11.5in of HM. Also flashed a Sinker that sat around 81-83mph an average of 17.2in of HM. The pitch is a quality pitch to get in on the hands against RHH. T2232, 2123 average rpm.
CB: 75-77 mph. The CB shows a tighter and late profile sitting around 75-76mph. The pitch has a smaller, horizontal movement profile with an avg of -0.3in IVB and -5.3in HM. T2374, 2330 average rpm.
CH: 78-79 mph. The CH graded out to be his best OS offering. The pitch has low spin, avg of 1,515RPMs, with 5.9in of IVB and 16.8in of HM. He showed true feel with the pitch in the zone, landing it 80% of the time. T1560, 1515 average rpm.
Parker Wilson, San Marino (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: C/OF True catcher profile with a loud swing and strong underlying metrics. Clean movements behind the plate.
Body: 5-11, 172-pounds. Physical and athletic mover, some room to grow and fill.
Hit: RHH. Tall and narrow stance, slightly open front leg. Hands are in a relaxed position with a small bat wiggle. Hands stay still during the leg kick, creating natural hip-shoulder separation. Lower half initiates the swing, as the hands follow. Stays on plane well (72.2% on-plane efficiency), and able to adjust within the zone. The physical body allows him to create bat speed (71.6mph max) and hit the ball in the air with authority (367ft max distance).
Power: 99 mph max exit velocity (87.3 avg.); 367-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 76 mph.Accurate arm, consistently one hopping 2nd base. Put all of his throws around the tag zone.
Defense: 2.03-2.26 pop time range; Starts in a traditional, 2-leg popped position. Quick transfers while gaining ground towards the throw. Strong forearms help him frame pitches on the edges of the plate.
Athletic Testing: 6.79 runner in the 60-yard dash; 25.20-inch max vertical jump.
