KC Summer Classic / Super 13: In Review
June 30, 2026
Following the Summer Classic was an outstanding experience to watch these summer teams and organizations to start falling into their groove and gelling to make for some competitive baseball throughout the weekend. Between both the Summer Classic and the Super 13, 5 champions were crowned between their respective divisions from the action at Creekside and Homefield. Down below we will breakdown the championship teams as well as my all tournament team and scouting notes from the weekend. Starting off strong, let's look at our top players from the weekend and how they performed...
2028 C Brady Nelson (Staley High School, MO): The ultra physical 5'10 backstop was not only a high follow all weekend long but got to the point where it was hard to ignore the performance both at the plate and behind the dish. Nelson finished the weekend 10-16 with 1HR, 5XBH, and 4BB to just 2Ks. The impact bat was on display in each game, consistently finding himself in the upper 9's for exit velocity with some triple digit EVs sprinkled in to add. The rythmic setup leads to a compact stride before delivering some high level bat speed on a direct path to the baseball from the right side. Behind the plate, Nelson has found himself sub 1.9 in a showcase setting with obvious feel for the catch and throw aspect, the transfer was quick and consistent before showing off an arm that's been clocked up to 84mph from the crouch. This is a must see '28 prospect ahead of August 1st.
2027 3B/RHP Connor Jones (Staley High School, MO): Jones finds himself as one of the more intriguing prospects in the KC area for this '27 class. The stout 5'10 corner infielder shows some advanced feel to build power from the ground up creating impressive production both on the mound and at the plate. Jones finished the weekend 7/11 with 4XBH at the plate while delivering 4 innings of 1 hit baseball in his start on the hill on the weekend. The RHH is as simple as it gets at the plate with good bat to ball skill creating effortless bat speed from the powerful frame. On the mound it's a true bulldog feel for Jones. Sit and drive look down the mound with a clean arm action from a high 3/4 slot. the righty mixes up his looks well in both the stretch and the windup with feel for a strong 3 pitch mix. Carries velo well with the fastball while featuring a hard, shorter shaped SL as the out pitch in most situations. Overall, Jones is a competitor that would fit in to a plethora of college programs if given the right opportunity.
2028 SS Asher Newton (Manhattan High School, KS): The #10 Overall in Kansas put together a big weekend at the plate while consistently impressing with the actions in the field to make the standouts list this weekend. On this particular weekend, the LH bat reached in all 5 games on the slate including 4XBH while walking more than he struck out. At the plate, creates some lag in the hands before firing on a direct path to the baseball, the plate coverage from Newton is a sight to behold with the ability to drive the baseball to all fields with ease. Newton's 6'0, 175 pound frame will be a great foundational piece for the next level with athleticism to boot in both the frame and the actions. The SS clocked a 6.8 with an upper 8's arm across the infield while displaying clean lateral movements with the ability to fire the baseball across the diamond from a variety of angles. This will be a must circle name with Team Kansas in the Future Games come late July.
2030 OF/LHP Kellan Rozgay (Omaha Westview HS, NE): The 5'10, 165 pound rising freshman was another name that we couldn't take our eyes off of this weekend, continually topping his performances from the game before. At the plate, Rozgay delivered 9 hits in 11 trips to the plate adding 1HR, 4XBH, and walking twice without a strikeout on the weekend. Mechanically there's a longer hang in the front foot before an extended stride, getting the whole 165 pound frame into the baseball. adv. barrel control stands out from the left side while having a developing power alley to LCF on display already launching baseballs 370ft+ to the back side gap. The left handed arm also worked up to 81 in a 5 inning complete game effort allowing just 3 hits and punching out 9 in the win. Feel for the offspeed was present, headlined by a depthy changeup thrown to RHH early and often.
2028 3B/OF Krue Patrick (Staley High School, MO): The top 100 prospect in Prep Baseball's national ranks continues to prove he's earned his ranking each time out to the ballpark. On the weekend, Patrick slugged 3 homeruns in 6 games while delivering 5BBs to a lone strikeout. At the plate, the approach is bordering on professional, looking to elevate to the pull side early in counts and doing so with consistency. With 2 strikes Patrick is just as dangerous, hunting the back side gap with the strike to leave the yard with a more compact swing. The 6'1, 190lb athlete was eye opening defensively both at the hot corner and in the outfield with natural insincts to pair with an arm clocked up to 93 across the diamond and 6.6 speed. There is no doubt this is a player that will demand attention down at lakepoint come time for the Future Games.
2027 RHP Connor Judkins (Elkhorn South HS, NE): The 6'6 240lb right handed arm flashed some impressive stuff in his 5 inning CG shutout for Spects over the weekend. Simple and repeatable in the delivery with a low effort feel on the mound. FB played to both IZM and chase while sitting mostly in the low/mid 8's. Tunneled the Breaking ball well off of the FB with some big two plane break, spinning up around 2500RPM playing to consistent swing and miss. Flashed a sinker thrown mostly on the inner half while displaying the ability to throw it off the back door and freeze hitters. This uncommitted rising senior seems to have plenty more in the tank with present pitch ability challenging hitters early and often.
2028 MIF/RHP Theo Fisher (Liberty North HS, MO): There aren't too many high school athletes in MOKAN with a higher ceiling than Theo Fisher and this weekend was a great example of that fact. The long levered 170 pound athlete finished the weekend 9/20 with 2HR, 3XBH, while going 3SOIP allowing a lone hit on the mound, running the FB up to 85 with a strong 3 pitch mix from a crossfire delivery. This will be a must know name in the '28 class in Missouri as he continues to add polish to the present tools.
After breaking down some of the best from the weekend, let's dive into the big winners from each division and their championship counterparts that made it to the final round from the weekend:

Super 13
Champion
KC Reign are another squad that is no stranger to consistent winning baseball in their home town, moving to 19-4-1 on the Summer following their championship win in the Super 13. The high powered offense powering Reign to their title, which came unsurprisingly as they have been scoring in bunches all summer long, plated over 10 runs a game in each of their bracket play games in order to secure the championship.
Finalist
Kansas Premier - Hoag delivered an inspiring performance in the bracket, winning 3 straight in the bracket before falling just short in the final round.
