2026 OHSAA Tournament: Division V State Semifinal - #1 Waynedale vs #7 Lucasville Valley

CANTON - Waynedale produced 13 hits and a fourth state crown in the last five years is now within reach after the Golden Bears defeated Lucasville Valley 7-2 in the Division V semifinals at Thurman Munson Stadium on Thursday

Trailing 2-1, the top-ranked team in the state pushed across two runs in each of the third, fourth and sixth innings en route to its 29th win in 32 games this season.

Cam Miller finished 4-4 with two doubles and three runs scored while Hudson Barkman was 3-4. Both drove in a pair of runs as did Jordan Miller, who put Waynedale on top with a run-scoring single in the top of the first to plate Cam Miller who had doubled.

Valley tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Collin Greene RBI base hit to bring in Carson Powell, who led off the frame with a single.

The seventh-rated Indians went in front on a Powell run-scoring base knock in the second, but Valley could only muster three hits the remainder of the game in closing out the season at 22-8.

Jordan Miller went 5.2 innings for the win, striking out four for Waynedale, winners of state in 2022, 2023 and 2025.

HOT TAKES

PLAYER OF THE GAME: A 4-4 day at the dish is Player of the Game material and Cam Miller is the honoree. The junior left fielder, who had a single and two RBIs in last year's 2-1 state semifinal victory over Coldwater, also struck out two in 1.1 innings of one-hit shutout pitching in relief to close out the victory. 

WHAT'S NEXT?: Four of the six Lucasville Valley hits and one of the two runs were scored by undderclassmen bringing hope for the future for head coach Nolan Crabtree, who has led the Indians to state two of the last six years. Corner outfielders Nick Queen and Gavin Hannah are back as is shortstp Thad Lansing and Greene, the DH for Valley, which had three senior starters. Second baseman Hunter Cunningham, center fielder Caysen Zieber and catcher Parker Robinson are others back for the Indians.
