We put a cap on our 2026 Virginia/DC High School season . In 2025, the Virginia High School League pushed the season start and finish back one week, which has created some stark differences in where public and private teams are at in their season. Without further ado, we are going to highlight a few teams that have seen some movement in the Power 25. See some discussion on the Power 25 and many other topics on the most recent episode of High & Tight.
VA/DC Power 25 Final Poll Notes
+ We have waited long enough for our end of the season Power 25. While our staff had planned an earlier update between May 18 and now, the stars just did not align to get that done. In addition to the busy schedule that the summer brings, there was also so much variance at the end of the season with private school being finished, some districts playing tournaments and some not, some regions starting later than others, and much more. While we had planned an update last week, we are here for the final update today. There are 11 Champions inside of this update: VISAA DI-DIII, VHSL Class 1-6, WCAC, and DCSAA. In addition to the regular Power 25, our staff also lays out the entire Top 50 teams from across VA/DC.
+ Paul VI remains at the top overall spot. In addition to that, the Panthers make their way into the national rankings list, making their debut and final spot at #48. Paul VI was 7-2 versus in state Top 50 opponents, including wins over Bishop O'Connell (3), St. John's (2), and St. Anne's-Belfield. While there were just a few other teams with a broader scope of quality opponents, the Panthers did not have any bad losses and put together a quality season from start to finish. It was arguably the strongest overall resume, with quality wins, some challenges on the schedule, and the roster to match their ending position.
+ St.Anne's-Belfield moves up two spots to the #2 position in the final poll. The Saints were the runners-up in the VISAA DI State Tournament, but carried the most quality wins in the entire state. STAB went 10-3-1 in Top 50 games this season, including wins over Miller School (2), Great Bridge, Collegiate, Highland School, and Cape Henry. The Saints had quite possibly the loudest and most productive offense in the state, scoring 263 runs on the season (nearly 8 runs per game).
+ Four teams make massive leaps up the Power 25, including three of them moving back into the rankings in the final update. With around three weeks between updates, it leaves a lot of room big changes. Three state champions made big leaps, with New Kent moving up six spots and Battlefield, Great Bridge, and Woodgrove jumping back into the Power 25 in a big way.
- New Kent was extremely strong from start to finish. The Trojans started the year at #18 overall and continued their presence in the Power 25 from start to finish. New Kent never once slipped out of the Top 20. Their only two losses were one run losses to Tabb and Mechanicsville, both being Top 50 teams at the end of the season.
- Battlefield started the year at #2, but would stumble out of the gates and lost some head scratchers early. The Bobcats would figure out their pitching staff as the year went on and as expected, the offense (see Teagan Leach) took over games.
- Great Bridge started the year at #5, but sort of like Battlefield, the Wildcats struggled versus quality competition throughout the season. The three headed monster of Cuddyer, Han, and Cole Cinnamond really started to carry the offense on the back end of the season and Brody Comparto made some big pitches in some big spots for the 757 power.
- Woodgrove had an up and down start to the season, before they went on a nine game win streak to finish the season. The Wolverines capped off their season with a 2-1 win over #3 Atlee to finish the season. The Class 4 State Champions were comfortable in close games, winning six games on the season by one run, but were involved in ten total one runs games. Woodgrove started the season at #20 in the Preseason Power 25, but would move out after a pair of early losses.
