Wisconsin Rankings Class of 2029: Update

Wisconsin Scouting Staff

After a long and eventful spring, we are updating the class of 2029 rankings as we head into the summer circuit. There’s a bit of movement throughout, along with a handful of new names added.

Continue reading below for a look at the notable movement throughout the update.

THE TOP-5

RHP Cooper Graham (Mukwonago) and 1B/ATH Eastin Sorenson (Chippewa Falls) remain atop the class this update.

Graham continues to look the part of a workhorse with a power arsenal with stuff that maintains quality throughout extended outings. There’s feel to pitch that has continued to tick up across our looks, along with feel to spin and kill spin.

Sorenson continues to show a number of advanced tools positionally while consistently taking strong at-bats, positionally the defense has always been quality at first but athletically could find a home at a number of spots across the field even. Also a QB1 with arm strength and feel to spin on the mound to pair with the positional skillset.

Then follows a trio of athletic and upside two-ways in INF/RHP Heath Rosemeyer (Fall Creek), OF/LHP Robert Perez II (Bay Port), and INF/RHP Sutton Nelson (Waupun) round out the top-5.

Rosemeyer is a strong athlete with steady actions and feel positionally with a strong right-handed swing that has routinely performed in front of our staff. The upside on the mound stands out itself, mid-80s fastball velocity with more to come as he matures with feel for three secondaries.

Perez is a physical left/left athlete with feel to hit from the left-side, the strength at impact continues to tick up and there’s easy strength that he gets to often. Clear arm strength that plays both in the field and on the mound with certainly more in the tank to pair with both breaking ball feel and feel to turn over a changeup.

Nelson performs and has really broken out as an arm to know in the class. Pitches in the zone, and gets a large amount of whiffs on both his fastball and breaking ball. The fastball reaches into the upper-80s with feel to spin a sharp breaking ball while working deep into outings. Also a middle infielder with an athletic right-handed swing.

TOP-10 NEWCOMERS

INF Colin Peterson (Pewaukee) rises inside the top-10 and continues to look the part of a high-end left-handed hitter and the defense continues to improve in the dirt on top of some obvious arm strength gains from the winter giving more of a chance to continue to provide quality defense on the left-side of the infield.

Making his rankings debut inside the top-10, MIF Beckett Hermus (Kimberly) is an athletic middle infielder with a ceiling defensively to pair with a twitchy left-handed swing. Total gamer in our looks this past spring, playing a high-end shortstop for one of the top teams in the WIAA while earning a spot at the top of the order by seasons end. It’s a toolsy profile from a twitchy athlete that is only just scratching the surface from a developmental standpoint.

The upside is clear with RHP Brady Seim (Sun Prairie East). The 6-foot-3 athlete was a performer as a freshman for one of the top programs in the state this spring working with an advanced arsenal. The fastball works into the mid-80s with life out of the hand, with jumps likely from velocity standpoint as he matures into his frame, while showing feel for two advanced secondaries that he throws to both handed batters, a sharp 11/5 breaking ball and a fading changeup.

ROUNDING OUT THE TOP-15

LHP Trent Demeuse (Preble), LHP Henri Alesci (Sussex Hamilton), RHP Erik Muresan (Arrowhead) round off the notable pitchers inside the top-15. Demeuse is a physical lefty with feel to find the zone at a high-rate on top of an advanced three pitch mix, also a strong right-handed hitter with a simple and repeatable swing that works on the barrel across our looks. It’s easy to spot the arm talent from Alesci, a loose and quick arm working into the low-80s with feel to spin a sharp breaking ball with feel to turn over a changeup. Muresan was a name that recently broke out on the summer circuit, a long-levered and projectable 6-foot-3 right-hander with feel to work in the zone with two pitches, a low-80s fastball and a breaking ball with 11/5 action.

C Cash Panosian (Wilmot Union) and C Bentley Henrickson (Manitowoc Lincoln) continue to each look the part of top catchers in the state’s class. Panosian is a steady defender with catch-and-throw traits while swinging a steady right-handed bat with growing strength and impact from the right-side. Henrickson continues to perform and defend at an advanced rate, the bat has continued to tick up while driving the ball on a more consistent rate to pair.

OF Oliver Peltz (Whitefish Bay) and MIF/RHP Caleb Reuland (Appleton North) extend on the depth of athletic up the middle bats inside the class. Peltz looks the part defensively in center with athletic routes and jumps with arm strength to pair with a smooth right-handed swing. Reuland is a middle infielder with a clean and stong right-handed swing on top of a quality arsenal on the mound.
