Q&A with Eastern Michigan Commit Hank Blackburn

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

RHP Hank Blackburn (Liberty) has been an anchor of the Blue Jays’ pitching staff throughout his prep career, featuring an upper-80s fastball that can reach into the low 90s, paired with two high-spin breaking balls. A member of Team Missouri at last August's inaugural Central Super Senior Games, Blackburn committed to Eastern Michigan shortly after.

We recently had the chance to talk to Blackburn about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.

Our Q&A

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Hank: I was looking to go division 1 and have a chance to play immediately, with great coaches and facilities.

PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

H: The staff and how technical the pitching side is, along with the upgraded facilities and competition.

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

H: Stop comparing yourself to other people. Outwork everyone in the room.

PB: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

H: Somewhat, but willing to chase my dream

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

H: Recruitment started August 1 before my junior year. Eastern Michigan saw me play at the Vanderbilt high school camp.

PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?

H: Missouri games and Lakepoint

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

H: 7-8th grade year

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

H: Being down at Lakepoint and getting my first offer.
