16u National Championship: Scout Blog
Brody Bohannon, C, 2027, Sequoyah (GA)
Uncommitted. Bohannon had two at bats early on in the tournament that stood out, as well as some great defensive work behind the dish. The twitchy movement is seen in the stance and through the quick triggered cut. In his first AB, he went down out of the zone but still found a barrel for a 92 EV 1B into LF. Later, he worked a good AB as well, this time going for extra bases. He showed a really nice mid-pitch adjustment and kept the weight back well and deposited it into the oppo corner for a 2B. Behind the plate, base runners had to be careful as he got a back pick early on, and consistently smothered dirt balls. As Bohannon continues to show strides, he will be a fun C to stay tuned in on this summer and upcoming senior season.
Bronson Weng, RHP/OF, 2028, Centerville (OH)
It was a day full of power on both the hill and in the box for the skilled 2-way. Weng caught eyes immediately as he was given the pill to start and showed off a confident 3-pitch mix across his outing. His FB was 90-92 and maintained velo all evening, showing great feel for it as he used it to attack hitters, get ahead in counts, and finish ABs. The CH (81-82) was the clear best pitch in his arsenal as he had great CMD and movement that kept hitters guessing and reaching. He finished off the repertoire with a SL (77-78) that also had good movement, leading to 5IP, 4Ks, 2H, 1BB, 0ER. At bat, he showed a poised look as well with the loudest barrel of the game. He got an inner FB and didn’t miss, smoking a LD RBI 1B into LF @ 101.5 EV. With clear talent and abilities both ways, he will be an exciting watch all summer.
Everett Hash, OF, 2028, Olathe NW (KS)
Hash immediately passes the eye test with a sturdy base at 6-foot-2, and has some room to fill into his frame. Even with some maturity ahead of him, the pop speaks for itself as he confidently smoked two balls at 93 and 92 respectively. His first AB resulted in a 1B, but was a good fight and win as he read offspeed in the full count and smothered it into LF, making a slight mid pitch adjustment. Later, he brought home a run as he turned on a good inner pitch and hammered it into the corner where he was able to get the 3B. The load and synchronization with each pitch was most intriguing; he has a very early stride step but does a tremendous job at keeping the weight firmly planted and then fires quickly once a swing decision is made. Hash’s makeup and athletic ability provide a high quality floor, and the ceiling has plenty of room to grow with development.
Carter Lee, LHP, 2028, Viera (FL)
It was pure dominance from the southpaw immediately as he started his outing K’ing 7 straight before the defense got a put out. The FB was most impressive as it spun 2500+ RPM consistently and was his go to attack pitch, missing bats often. He paired this with 3 breakers, the CH being his best having good depth and drop at 76-78. To change eye levels, he used a SL/CB pair at 76-78 and 68-70 respectively. The SL works well on a tighter HZB plane as it cuts into RHH hands. Lee pitched with good extension downhill and intent on every delivery as the opposing bats couldn’t figure him out. He went 3IP with 7Ks, 2H and 2 unearned runs. As Lee fills out and develops more, his stuff will only grow with him and he will be a LHP to continue to stay tuned in on.
