Top Prospect Underclass Quick Hits- Catchers
Micah Von, C/SS, 2028, Lakeside
Time and time again, Von simply hits in each and every setting that we have seen him over the years. Present athleticism in the 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame and boasts an immense feel to hit. Started the day by running a 6.73 60 and posted a (1.63 10-yd) along with a max run speed of (20.6). Found consistent barrels in batting practice as he finished the round with a max 92.7 and an average 86.5 exit velocities. Shows a well-connected RH cut in an extremely quick trigger as he stays compact through the zone with innate accuracy in the barrel. Impressive hands in-zone show often with good separation and feel to make consistent contact across multiple parts of the zone. Advanced pitch recognition and swing decisions alike with excellent zone awareness in a mature all-fields approach. Picked up a pair of knocks in-game as well as he hammered one off the left-center wall and added another pull-side single in his next at-bat. Defensive flexibility stands out with the ability to play a plethora of positions at a high-level. Athleticism behind the plate is present (2.04 pop-time) with budding arm strength (76 C Velo) and accuracy to the bag. Von has been a model of consistency these past couple of circuits and is quickly propelling himself into a must know name come August 1st.

Kayden Carter, C, 2028, Dutchtown
I was able to track down Carter this spring and was impressed with the raw tools and projection remaining on both sides of the ball. Looked the part across the showcase with a quality showing in all facets. Enormous strength in the muscled up 6-foot-0, 213-pound frame and real impact in the barrel. Consistently worked back up-the-middle in a loud round of batting practice as he posted a max 97.2 and an average 91.2 exit velocities. Added a frozen rope double deep into centerfield during gameplay as well. Stays coiled well with explosive hands and delivers a heavy barrel through the zone from a potent RH cut. Ball jumps at contact with minimal wasted effort and generates loads of strength from the ground-up. Quality of at-bats always stand out with advanced pitch recognition and tremendous zone awareness. Strong actions behind the plate with athleticism in the crouch along with excellent blocking and receiving skills. Accuracy to the bag stands out with budding arm strength (77 C Velo) while showing fluid footwork and lightning quick transfers. Posted a 1.94 pop time. It’s a solid floor profile with still so much more to tap into towards a significant ceiling and could garner interest across multiple levels come this fall.

Kyle Coleman, C/1B, 2028, Pope
Coleman showed out to be one of the most potent backstop bat this afternoon alongside a good defensive showing. Behind the plate he recorded a pop time of 2.00 even and ran it up to 76 on the gun, showing nice glove work as well. His BP round is where he let the loud bat work as his EVs lived in the mid/upper 90s and maxed out at 106EV, one of the top of the day. His swing is tight and quick as he keeps the front shoulder in as long as possible before opening up, proving for quality PS pop as a couple of balls left. The 5-foot-11, 187-pound C already has good makeup for a physical player and projects as a bat that can do damage.

Connor Tysver, C, 2028, St. Pius X
Tysver stood out yesterday on multiple fronts, beginning with his physicality. Standing at 6’2 244, he was one of the most physical athletes we saw all day, and he continued to impress by leveraging that physicality at the dish. Tysver showed some great barrel control and really does a good job of controlled aggression, not chasing pitches out of the zone and making pitchers feel uncomfortable with his physical frame. He recorded a top EV of 103.6 and averaged 94.6 EV in his rounds of BP. His BP rounds transferred seamlessly to the showcase game he played in the afternoon. Tysver hit a backside bomb on a freakishly athletic swing, letting the ball travel enough to muscle one over the wall in right, very impressive. Tysver will be a weapon for an already strong St. Pius offense next spring, not to forget his summer with Smartense where he will be a very central piece to both the offense and the defense.

John Brennan, C, 2029, Midtown
Brennan carried a massive role for the Knights this spring as he looked the part and then some. Compact strength and athleticism in the 5-foot-9, 164-pound frame with tools to project. Consistent line-drives in a strong round of BP as he posted a max exit velocity of 90.5. Followed it up with a double into RCF as he got the barrel on-plane with an upper 80’s fastball on the outer half. Utilizes a toe-tap trigger to stay balanced and compact through the zone while delivering a flat barrel. Slow heartbeat in the box and feel to hit stands out with ability to use the whole field well while showing gap-to-gal strength. Quality actions defensively behind the plate with athleticism in the crouch and posted a C velo of 77 MPH while showing a 2.05 pop time.

Crew Elrod, C/1B, 2029, IMG Academy
Standing at 6-foot-3, 239 pounds, Elrod stood out with his bat as he has a rhythmic load and the ball just simply sounded different off the bat as he had 7 exit velos over 100 MPH in his round of BP, headlined by a max EV of 103.8 working the whole field with effortless power (max distance of 381 feet). Elrod also ran a 8.06 60 yd dash with a 1.83 10 yd dash, combining his power and swing with decent speed Elrod is primed for a great summer and looks to only get better and better as years come and go.

Tate Broom, C/SS, 2029, Sonoraville
It was a quickly stand out day for Tate Broom as he begun the showcase with great throws behind the dish to 2B, all on target and within the 2.00-2.08 pop time range. The accurate arm paired with mid/upper 70s C velo will pair for a good defensive piece. At the dish, he maintained the good looks by showing out with an 86% hard hit rate and 92.3 AVG EV. He lived on the upper half of the ball as he lined 57% of his balls around the field. The ability to hit the ball on the line consistently and be a solid worker behind the plate gives Broom tons of flexibility in lineups, as well as keeping him athletically tuned.

Eli Benjamin, SS/C, 2029, Strong Rock Christian
Eli is a twitchy athlete and had a very nice showing today. Defensively, Eli looked comfortable behind the dish, flashing a 76 mph arm to go along with pop times ranging from 2.01-2.26. A quick and efficient transfer allows him to get the ball to the bag with precision. From the infield, we saw more of the same. Eli showed good footwork around the baseball and looked extremely comfortable making plays both glove and arm side. Eli’s arm topped at 82 mph while moving with fluidity across the infield. Eli impressed in the 60yd dash, running a 6.71 with a 3.75 30yd split. His BP round was highlighted by a max EV of 89mph and an avg batted ball distance of 246 feet. Eli’s projectable frame (6’2” 168lbs), athleticism, and baseball instincts provide a lot to be excited about regarding Eli Benjamin's future. Will be an intriguing follow this summer.

Carter Radics, C, 2029, Wesleyan
At 5-foot-10, 157 pounds displayed a great swing at Top Prospect. Displayed great mechanics with a short leg kick, smooth hands and great extension of the hands and barrel at a 21 average hand speed. Multiple 100 + EVs on the day and showcased a max EV of 103.5 on the day. Worked pull side and backside on the day and generated great power by having great rotation on the back hip. Displayed physical ability with a 6.8 60 as a catcher and pitcher. Barrels were easy to come by and looked comfortable and smooth behind the plate. Has great tools as a hitter and pitcher with a FB in the high 80s to low 90’s and will continue to develop as time passes.

Tyler Hickman, C/3B, 2029, Cartersville
The 5-foot-10, 191-pound rising sophomore put together some great swings on Wednesday's Top Prospect Games. During BP, Hickman was consistently producing loud contact showcasing some evident power with solid barrel awareness, and a level path through the zone getting up to 96.8 EV. He was generating a lot of backspun line drives to the gap with great rhythm and flow in the box. During the game, Hickman put a great swing on a ball over the center fielder’s head for a triple. He showed a smooth swing with the barrel staying in the zone and getting extension. Look for Hickman to continue his development in the next few years.
