Tacoma Summer ID - Quick Hits
July 16, 2026
On Tuesday July 14th, Prep Baseball Washington hosted the Tacoma Summer ID at University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. Prep Baseball scouts evaluated high school athletes in the 2027-2030 graduating classes, with several strong showings throughout the event.
Summer ID events serve as an important tool for both Prep Baseball scouts and college recruiters, who will subsequently create lists of prospects to follow as they plan their remaining summer coverage. We often tend to see prospects' best showings at Summer ID events, as players are fresh off playing for their respective high schools and are in the routine that consistently playing in-game offers. Standout performances can lend invites to some of the summer's top events, including the 2026 Pacific Northwest State Games.
Today, we release our Quick Hits, detailing scouting notes on standout players from the event. Prospects are listed alphabetically by last name. Stay tuned in the coming days for complete post-event coverage. For all other post-event content, click here.
Tacoma Summer ID (7.14.26)
Quick Hits
'28 OF/LHP Max Beilke (Skyline)
The smooth swinging lefty delivered some of the best BP rounds of the day and had a great showcase beginning to end. A 6'2, 185 pound rising junior, Beilke works short to long with a clean mechanical operation at the plate, pulling the ball with a peak exit velocity of 99.4 MPH. Beilke took some time to get the ball in the air in BP, but once he did he drove balls up to 349 feet. A 7.11 runner in the 60, Beilke had a clean defensive look with throws up to 84 MPH from the outfield and could stick at all three OF spots at the high school level. He then ended his day by flashing a three pitch mix on the mound with a FB up to 84 MPH and a CH/CB offspeed pairing, both pitches sitting in the low 70's. Quality performer.
'29 1B/RHP Jackson Birrell (Glacier Peak)
The young bat carries some physicality and strength that led to more loud BP rounds from a lefty. Birrell sets in an upright stance with loose hands pre-pitch, with a gradual forward move as he stays tall and a quicker turn to contact. The longer levers and size result in some bat speed and balls hit up to 98.3 MPH in this look. Defensively, Birrell looks fit for a corner spot with a 7.39 run time and throws into the upper 70's. Birrell also flashed a four pitch, lower spin arsenal, with offerings that play well to the bottom of the zone.
'27 C/OF Maxwell Brender (Bellevue)
Bellevue High School has had several talented catchers roll through their program in recent years, and Brender looked the part of another quality player in Tacoma. The athleticism stands out in a medium sized RH frame, posting an event-best 6.77 60 yard dash time. Brender carries present arm strength with throws up to 76 MPH and a 2.10 pop time defensively. At the plate, it's more contact over power to this point, with bend in the levers and a tighter turn through the zone from the right side. Brender drove balls north of 300 feet with a best exit velocity of 92.7 MPH.
'27 1B Henry Carpinito (Seattle Christian/PLU Commit)
The loudest offensive performance of the day came from the newly committed 2027, as Carpinito flashed effortless pop from the left side. The ultra-physical 6'6 prospect generates bat speed as easy as any player in the area, whipping the barrel through the zone with controlled aggression and a slight uphill path. Carpinito punished pitch after pitch to the middle of the field with a best exit velocity of 103.5 MPH while averaging 97.1 MPH. A 1B only type defensively, Carpinito makes the routine play with comfort to his backhand side and a low-slot arm action.
'28 INF Bud Casteneda (Steilacoom)
Casteneda found success at the top of the lineup for a talented 2A side during large portions of this spring, The young prospect displayed skill with twitchy actions at his first Prep Baseball showcase event. The compact-framed athlete works with active feet and up-tempo fielding actions fit for the middle of the diamond, though he did see time at 3B this season as well. He also showed some mature rounds of BP, staying within himself with a line drive approach and exit velocities north of 90 MPH. A 7.18 runner, Castaneda makes up an exciting young core for an intriguing 2A side next year.
'27 C Christian Cox (Bishop Blanchet)
Cox showcased some nice progress across the board since a previous showcase look in the winter. He started his day with a new-best 6.87 60 yard dash time and quality actions shown defensively. At the plate, its a smooth lefthanded operation with some classic loft and higher hands throughout. Cox sets with his weight stacked over his rear side, staying tighter in the lower half with a firm front side at contact. The rising senior had a best exit velocity of 93.9 MPH while averaging 86.3 MPH as well. Athletic uncommitted prospect who could make an impact at the next level.
'27 C Joe Enrico (Monroe)
In a talented group of catchers at this particular event, Enrico delivered the best pop time of the day with a 1.98 second throw that was on the money. Enrico moves with quickness and twitch that allowed for a quick transfer and release and a strong overall defensive look. Offensively, the medium-framed righthander peppered the pull side with balls on a line. Enrico explodes late through the zone with a more violent turn and a flatter path at contact. He was on time and on the barrel throughout the entirety of his BP, with a best exit velocity of 96.4 MPH and an average EV of 90.5 MPH. Impressive showing.
'28 OF/RHP Evan Fulghum (Peninsula)
The Peninsula product continued a strong set of looks in 2026, carrying over from a winter showcase and live look this high school season. The toolset remains intriguing and carries upside moving forward. As a position player, Fulghum fits well in a corner OF spot, with throws up to 86 MPH and a 7.35 run time. The power showcased itself in a big way with blasts up to 365 feet and exit velocities up to 94.7 MPH. On the hill, Fulghum features a straighter FB up to 84 MPH, killing spin well on a CH and mixing in a SL as his third offering.
'27 RHP/INF Samuel Kraynek (West Seattle)
The wiry-framed righthander was another prospect who had a quality performance start to finish, particularly on the mound. Kraynek sat more in the low 80's for much of his bullpen session but cranked it up to 86 MPH by the end. He also featured a mid 70's CH and low 70's SL that flashed at times. Kraynek ran a 7.14 60 yard dash and showcased more fluid actions in the infield. At the plate, Kraynek flashed at times as well once he settled in, with a top exit velocity of 94.6 MPH. Well-rounded look.
'27 C Jack Odegaard (Bellevue)
One of the loudest toolsets came from Odegaard, who boasted some great numbers on both sides of the baseball. At the plate, the righthander sets in a wider stance and carries a heavier barrel through the zone with present pop. Odegaard drove multiple balls out of the yard with a peak exit velocity of 101.1 MPH and an average of 95.5 MPH. He also ran a 7.15 60 time with quality closing speed. The arm strength was apparent defensively with throws carring through the bag and a best pop time of 2.00 seconds. Name to circle.
'27 RHP Zach Shoch (Graham Kapowsin)
The medium-framed righthander showed well as a pitcher only on Tuesday. Shock worked the fastball into the low 80's from a low release height, generating heavier horizontal action on the pitch. The slider flashed as a potential plus pitch with over 2500 RPM on average, thrown in the upper 60's. He also threw a low 70's CH with just 1280 RPM on average, rounding out the three pitch mix.
