The 2026 high school baseball season is underway and, as usual, excitement is present throughout Iowa. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across the Hawkeye State.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Cedar Rapids or Carroll at the IHSAA state tournaments, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to shine a spotlight on all teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Iowa.

+ Ankeny Centennial’s Brekken Miller went 4 for 5 with 2 singles, double, grand slam, 5 RBI’s, 3 runs scored, 1 walk and a stolen base.

+ Waukee’s Gavin De Jesus was 5 for 7 with 3 singles, 2 home runs, 5 RBI’s, 4 runs and drew a walk.

+ Urbandale’s Xander Gutmann went 2 for 5 with a single, home run, 4 RBI’s, 2 runs and a hit by pitch.

+ Southeast Polk’s Zion McCool threw 7 innings, gave up 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, and struck out 6.

+ Southeast Polk’s Maddox Bartling was 2 for 5 with a double, triple, walk, 4 RBI’s, and a run scored.

+ Roland-Story’s Cooper Triggs went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, triple, home run, 5 RBI’s and 3 runs.

+ Carlisle’s Owen Johnson went 3 for 3 with a single, 2 home runs, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs.

+ Benton’s Kaleb Hupke was 2 for 2 with 2 home runs, 4 RBI’s, 4 runs and 2 walks.

+ Knoxville’s Lincoln Norris went 2 for 3 with a single, home run, 3 RBI’s and a run.

+ West Lyon’s Sam Underberg went 2 for 3 with 2 singles including the walk off rbi single. He would also draw 1 walk, score 1 run and steal a base.

+ Beckman Catholic’s Brody Gogel went 4 for 4 with 2 singles, double, triple, 4 RBI’s and 1 run.

+ Newman Catholic’s Hudson Hensley was 1 for 4 with a grand slam.

+ East Buchanan’s Brady Van Scoyoc went 3 for 4 with 2 singles, double, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
