The spring update is arguably the most important and most in depth update of the year. Our staff has taken in more than 240 games this season and during the course of that time, we have gathered evaluations, provided updated scout blogs, updated pitching velos, discussed players on High & Tight, and spent hundreds of hours observing and scouting thousands of players in the state of Virginia & DC. With all of that time put in, we also do a complete overhaul of the entire database of profiles within each class. With the 2028 class our staff has combed and crosschecked more than 1200 profiles in the state to try and be as thorough as possible. The full schedule for the week is as follows: Rankings Risers, New Faces, Top 50, Overall Class Update, and Case for #1.

Today we dive into a group of Rankings Risers from the VA/DC Class of 2028. This group of players have made significant jumps and have showed extremely well this spring, displaying upside and production in game. Take a look at video and notes on a small group of players that have stood out this spring.

Tucker Bowyer SS / 2B / Culpeper County High, VA / 2028

A strong season at the top of the order has provided some offensive value to the Culpeper lineup. Bowyer has lean strength and is athletic to impact the order and create some offense. It is a gap-to-gap approach with most of the strength coming to the pull side. Defensively he is athletic enough to play in the infield as well as being versatile enough to move to the outfield potentially at the next level. He is an above-average runner that can impact the basepaths and make things happen offensively. He has created some momentum and is a name to keep an eye on this summer.

Tucker Fodill 2B / 3B / Hanover High, VA / 2028

Fodill was at the top of the order for the Hawks this spring and showed bat-to-ball skills and a knack to get on base. It is a simple setup with a level barrel path that sprays line drives from line to line. It is a second base profile with some athleticism fundamentals to stick at second base. It is a wiry frame that has room to add strength to add more impact to up the offensive profile.

Brandon Han SS / 2B / Great Bridge High, VA / 2028

A breakout spring in the 757 has Han making a big rise in this update. He has made his presence felt in a talented Great Bridge lineup as a sophomore and has made himself a name to know. The offense has been on display this spring, being a constant contributor. He brings the aggressive beach mentality that you always come to see from hitters in the 757. While he is aggressive, it is also controlled with attacking pitches in the zone and not chasing. He is comfortable with using the back side of the field as well as getting the barrel out early for the pull side. While he makes a lot of contact, it isn't just a contact bat. He has shown the ability to attack the gaps and hit for extra bases. It is an athletic frame that still has plenty of room to add strength at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Defensively he can bounce around to different positions in the infield and is athletic enough to make plays. He gives hitterish traits offensively that lead the profile. He has gained a lot of momentum and is a name to know heading into the summer.

Shane Henderson RHP / 1B / Riverbend High, VA / 2028

Henderson has stepped up and shined as a big producer in the Riverbend rotation this spring. It is a long, lanky frame at 6-foot-3, 165-pounds that has plenty of room to add strength. It is a slower-tempo delivery with normal effort. It is a higher release from an over the top slot that creates some downhill deception. The fastball works in the mid-eighties and upper eighties at times. He shows feel for three pitches with some future starter profile. He has shown the ability to pitch, and when the velocity ticks up, it will have an increase in the arsenal.

Alex Inget RHP / SS / Mclean High, VA / 2028

Inget has been very important to McLean’s success this spring. He has been a reliable arm that has shown well against quality lineups. The velocity has seen an increase through the spring, being up to 90. He shows four pitches and has the ability to land them all for strikes. While there isn’t a standout secondary pitch, having four pitches in the arsenal provides value as a future starter profile. The two breaking balls have distinct shape differences, but both will need to firm up to have more success. It is a good frame, and he moves well at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, and has plenty of room to add strength.

Carter Jones RHP / OF / Mclean High, VA / 2028

A physical presence is felt when Jones steps into the box. There is above-average bat speed, and he has the chance to leave the yard out of any part of the field. He is aggressive and looks to get the barrel out early to impact the baseball. While he looks to show the impact to the pull side, he has some adjustability to be able to use the opposite field. While there is physicality in the frame, it is still some sneaky athleticism. It is a corner defensive profile that has some future power potential.

Aiden Poff 3B / RHP / Salem High, VA / 2028

A strong physical athlete that has made a splash in the Roanoke area this spring. Poff has shown a hit/power combo this spring in the heart of the order. It is a relaxed setup with simple movements with an uphill barrel path. There is some length in the swing, but it has shown some adjustability to secondary pitches. Defensively, it is a corner profile long-term with power potential. He has a strong frame that has a chance to hold some strength long-term.

Josiah Pulling SS / RHP / Homeschool (VA), VA / 2028

Pulling makes an impact on both sides when he is on the field and you feel his presence. He is fundamentally sound defensively with fluid actions and high baseball IQ when defending in the infield. In the compact frame, there is some strength and athleticism that impacts both sides. He is aggressive offensively and gets swings off early in counts. It is more of a gap-to-gap approach, flashing some impact to the pull side at times.

Landon Strauss OF / LHP / Maury High, VA / 2028

Strauss is a scrappy hitter that can be a table setter at the top of the order. He is a contact bat that works low line drives from line to line and creates some havoc for opposing pitchers. There is rhythm in the hands with a level barrel path. There is room to add strength, but this is a hit-tool type of bat that looks to impact the top of the order.

Parker Thomas C / RHP / St. Anne's-Belfield, VA / 2028

Thomas was an arm that gained some experience on the mound for Saints this spring. He had some success in various roles and showed some flashes of being a future anchor of the Saints' pitching staff. The fastball works in the mid-eighties with some late intent. He attacks the zone and mixes in a breaking ball off of the fastball. He competes with an edge on the mound and can be used in different situations.
