The Alton right-handed duo of Anderson Kaufmann and Logan Hickman was near unhittable this week. The duo led the Redbirds to consecutive wins over Belleville East in 5-0 and 4-0 victories this past week. Combining for 11 innings, one hit, zero runs, three walks, and 22 strikeouts. They also got it done with the bat, going 7-for-18, with a double, triple, two walks, three RBIs, five runs, and two stolen bases. For this reason, the duo has been named this week's Co-Pitchers of the Week.

Sophomore RHP Anderson Kaufman (uncommitted) starts us off after his dominant outing on Tuesday, leading the Redbirds to a 4-0 victory. The right-hander tossed five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and zero walks with 10 strikeouts. On the other side of the ball, Kaufman went 4-for-8, with a walk, two RBIs, three runs, and two stolen bases.

Kaufmann is one of the premier arms in the sophomore class, ranked 3rd in the state and 124th nationally. The 6-foot, 181-pound right-hander boasts a fastball sitting 89-92 mph with a wipeout slider in the upper 70s. An advanced profile with an arsenal well beyond his age, Kaufmann is one of the must-see arms within the state.

Scouting Report

3/21/26

Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 3 in the state, No. 124 nationally. 6-foot, 181-pound frame, athletic with a high waist, rounded shoulders, trim build. Highly impressive look at the sophomore who got the start on the mound, striking out seven over his 3.2 innings of work, walking none. Highly athletic and bouncy mover with body control, coils with a high leg-lift into balance point, quality stack over the rubber with a drop/drive lower-half, works in-line, shoulders work level downhill. Short and compact arm circle with layback at footstrike, explosive with arm-speed, ¾ slot. Fastball played 89-91 mph, topping at 92 mph throughout his entire outing, commanding to all quadrants (in/out, up/down), especially glove side to RHH, collected whiffs consistently in the zone. Slider is a real weapon with confidence to throw it in any count, 76-79 mph for whiffs, two-plane break with sharp action. Flashed a changeup at 80 mph with arm-speed and tumbling action to the arm-side. Held runners extremely well, varying pauses and holds, works quickly and wastes no time in-between pitches, makes adjustments on his own from pitch-to-pitch, mature beyond his years. A top uncommitted arm to follow in the 2028 class.

Senior RHP Logan Hickman (John A. Logan commit) comes in next after a hitless outing Thursday, contributing to a combined no-hitter, leading the Redbirds to a 5-0 victory. Hickman tossed six hitless innings, allowing zero runs and three walks while striking out 12. He would also go 3-for-10 on the week with a double, triple, walk, RBI, and two runs.

This right-hander has a 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame and is currently ranked No. 92 in the state. On the mound, Hickman has presented himself as the veteran leader of the staff with a fastball into the mid-80s.

Scouting Report

4/22/26

John A. Logan JC commit. Hickman went 5-for-9 with four doubles and five RBIs. On the mound, he made two appearances totaling three innings, allowing no runs and striking out five batters.

In a week defined by dominant pitching and all-around production, Kaufmann and Hickman proved why they are two of the top arms in the state. Their ability to control the game on the mound while contributing offensively played a major role in Alton’s success, and the Redbirds will continue to lean on the duo as the postseason approaches.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
