The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.
With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Centreville

Kees Yashko OF / 3B / Centreville High, VA / 2027It was another look at Yashko this spring, and he left another good impression with multiple barrels. All told, our staff has seen him 4 times and posted multiple at-bats on each trip this spring. He has a gap-to-gap approach but can drop the head and turn on a ball if he wants to or it's pitched in a place to do that. He showed that he does not need to pull the ball to go deep with his crushed home run to right-center on Friday night. The pitch was up, but it was also on the outer part of the plate and from a low slot lefty, running away from him. He went with it and drove it, as opposed to trying to pull it and probably rolling it over. The barrel feel is real, the frame is a good athletic ballplayer's frame, and he showed some quickness on the bases early in the game Friday, taking second on a first-move steal where Madison had zero chance to get him even with a pickoff called on the play. It will be interesting to see how his summer progresses and where he lands, he belongs in the conversation as one of the top uncommitted 2027 outfielders in Virginia.

Franklin County
| |
Reid McElvain OF / C / Franklin County, VA / 2027Sturdier athletic frame with strength present, put together multiple competitive at-bats going 2-3 on the day with a double and a single that would bring in four runs, along with two walks.

James Madison
|
Jimmy Bollini LHP / James Madison High School, VA / 2026Bollini has an athletic frame with strength present. Pretty simple delivery, shorter loose arm action with some late whip to it, throws from just a tick above true sidearm. The fastball was 83-84, touching 85, with heavy late arm-side run that also gets some depth to it. The slider was 75 with a sharp 2/8 break.

JP Moore C / RHP / James Madison HS , VA / 2027Has a catcher’s frame and strength present in the lower half but can still move athletically. Wasn’t really tested to throw with lefties on the mound, and Centreville mostly used the first move to steal. A quiet receiver in a lower crouch provides a steady target and lets hands work to receive. At the plate, he had a great night. A left-handed hitter, he was aggressive early in the count against fastballs and showed barrel feel and extra-base power to all fields. Doubled to right-center, left-center, and off of the right field fence in the corner. Also had a backside single in his final at-bat. Didn’t get too choosy, just attacked hittable pitches as soon as he got one. The doubles power should continue to show, and as he learns to lift some, he will show some home run power to the pull side.

Brady Myers LHP / 1B / Madison High, VA / 2027Myers has an athletic frame with some strength present and some room to add more. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders closed off and level as he strides out, crossfire in his delivery that creates some deception. Short arm action from a higher three-quarters arm slot, action is clean and free. Fastball was 81-83, topping at 84 once, it has some late arm-side run to it and kind of rides a bit up in the zone. Pitches on plane to the top of the zone. The breaking ball has slider velocity but more of a curveball shape, bigger with a sharp 1/7 break at 73. Pretty much shut things down when he came in, only allowing a pair of 2-out baserunners in the 7th, but otherwise rolling through the end of the fifth and sixth innings pretty quickly.

James River
| |
Wil Camera LHP / 1B / James River High, VA / 2028Competitor. On the mound it is a different looking delivery from an over-the-top slot. Showed feel for the bigger shaped curveball in any count. Gave James River a solid start, allowing zero earned runs through three innings, and struck out five. Also picked up a hit through the right side.

Manchester
| |
Landon Anderson 1B / LHP / Manchester High, VA / 2028Balanced, relaxed setup with bat-to-ball skills. Have seen him twice in the last week, and he has put together some of the best at-bats this year. Multiple clutch hits, including a game-tying 2 RBI double with two strikes and two outs against a division one arm.
|
Northside
|
Camden Spangler OF / RHP / Northside High, VA / 2027Was on barrel all day with two singles and an RBI double. Lean athletic frame with room to fill. Relaxed setup, contact-driven bat, with the ability to stretch extra bases.

Warwick
|
Brenden Brown 3B / C / Warwick High School, VA / 2027Went 2-4 on the day with a home run and a backside double. Multiple quality at-bats throughout the day. Went 5 innings on the mound, collecting 10 K’s along the way. He is the tone setter in the Warwick lineup.
