Each week, our staff updates the Power 25 and provides key talking points from last week's games. This week, the top three remain the same as we see plenty of movement throughout the top ten and three new teams enter the top 25.

Talking Points

  • Mount St. Joseph defends their No. 1 spot. MSJ stays at No. 1 for the 2nd consecutive week following a three-game sweep over a tough Gilman team. It wasn't easy, as the Gaels walked it off in two of the three games.
  • Walter Johnson is back at the top. WJ lands back at No. 4 overall and the No. 1 public school in the Power 25 following three dominating wins over formidable opponents across MoCo.
  • The SMAC is legit. Four teams from the SMAC land inside the Top 25, as La Plata enters following a 3-0 week (10-2 overall), and Leonardtown, Chopticon, and Huntingtown continue to battle for seeding.

Winners

  • Oakdale is riding a 5-game winning streak and the offense is looking better than ever. Another "winnable" week sees the Bears biggest matchup with a scrappy North Hagerstown squad this Wednesday.
  • Sherwood handled business this week, as Sherwood has scored 126 runs over a 5-game span since their loss against Damascus on April 7th. A matchup with Magruder on Monday and Good Counsel on Friday should be big tests for the Warriors this week.
  • Broadneck has now won 7 in a row following another 3-0 week, with big wins over Chesapeake and Arundel this past week. A big matchup with Severna Park on Wednesday of this week should be the Bruins biggest test.
  • Crofton rises in the rankings once again following another 3-0 week and now sit at 12-1 on the season. This week may be the biggest and toughest of the season for the Cardinals, as matchups with Southern, Chesapeake, and Arundel are on the horizon this week.
  • Severna Park jumps inside the Top 25 for the first time since week 2, as this offense is firing on all cylinders over their last seven games.
  • La Plata and Long Reach are the final two new teams to jump inside the Top 25, as both are coming off undefeated weeks and land at No. 20 and 25, respectively.

Seeking Improvement

  • Calvert Hall didn't drop any in this update, however, did drop two games last week. A big series with a hungry Gilman squad will be a tough matchup this week for the Cardinals, looking to get back to their winning ways.
  • Urbana has been one of the top public schools all spring long, and a loss to unranked North Hagerstown last week sees the Hawks take a slight drop.
  • Chesapeake falls from No. 4 overall all the way to No. 15 following a 1-2 week that saw the Cougars lose to Severna Park and Broadneck in dominant fashion.
  • Huntingtown has dropped 3 of their last 4 and drop all the way to No. 21 in this latest update. A "winnable" week this week should see the Hurricanes find their winning ways again.
  • Landon had a 2-1 week last week, however, their loss came to unranked Bullis in a game that Landon was favored in.
