Week 2 Player of the Week

Cole Cheatham RHP / Union County, IN / 2027 + The #1 ranked player in the 2027 class is off to a dominant start to the spring for Union County. Last week, he struck out (10) in (5) scoreless innings, allowing just a pair of hits as he collected a win on the mound. He helped his team at the dish, as well, going 9-for-13 on the week with (3) doubles, (1) triple, (1) home run, (5) RBI, and (7) runs scored. To this point in the spring, the West Virginia recruit is batting .650 and has struck out 21 of the 34 batters that he has faced.

Honorable Mentions

+ 2026 CF/P Rob Czarniecki, Chesterton, Kentucky recruit: Czarniecki had a big week for Chesterton last week, totaling (11) hits - 6 of which went for extra bases (3 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR). He scored (12) runs, stole (5) bases, and also turned in a pair of scoreless innings on the bump. 

+ 2026 OF/P Brett Huffman, Delphi, Southeastern CC recruit: Tabbed as a 2A Preseason All-State OF, Huffman lived up to preseason accolades in Week #2 by clubbing (3) homers, two of which were grand slams. He went 5-for-11 in total, including (8) RBI, (8) walks, and (13) runs scored. He also went 2-0 on the mound with (12) strikeouts. 

+ 2027 RHP/IF Guerin Boshears, Beech Grove, Wright State recruit: Boshears is doing it on both sides for Beech Grove thus far. He collected a (12) strikeout, complete game win in his start on the bump, and also batted .600 during the week including (2) doubles, (1) triple, and a 3-run go-ahead homer vs. Perry Meridian. 

+ 2026 IF/P Drew Fredenburg, Shenandoah, Indiana Wesleyan recruit: Another Preseason 2A All-State player living up to the hype is Fredenburg, who went 5-for-8 last week with a double, (2) homers, and (7) RBI. Fredenbrug also threw six innings on the mound without allowing an earned run. 

+ 2026 IF/P Nathan Sutherlin, Greencastle, Marian recruit: Sutherlin is the third Preseason 2A All-State honoree on the list for this week. Sutherlin went 9-for-13 with (2) 2B, (1) 3B, (1) HR, and scored seven times. He also threw three scoreless innings versus Frankfort to pick up the win in that game. 

+ 2026 P/CF Landen Begley, Northwestern, IU-Kokomo recruit: Landen was named the Howard County Invitational MVP last week as he earned a win on the mound going six innings pitched with eight strikeouts. He also reached base at a .545 clip, went 4-for-9, and walked three times. 

+ 2026 3B Ryan Bogue, Portage: Bogue went 10-for-15 last week with (2) triples, a homer (grand slame), (12) RBI, (6) runs scored, and reached base at a .700 clip. 

+ 2026 RHP Hudson Devaughan, Mooresville, Alabama recruit: Devaughan was perfect in his opening start, tossing four scoreless innings without a baserunner as he struck out 11. 

+ 2027 1B/P Jayden Gardner, Borden: Gardner threw 7 2/3 scoreless across two appearances last week as he racked up eight strikeouts. He also batted .500 for the week, including a pair of doubles, and he reached base in 12-of-17 trips. 

+ 2027 RHP/1B Aaron Humphrey, Evansville North: The North Huskies are rolling, off to an undefeated start, and Humphrey led them last week with a 9-for-15 week at the dish. He hit (3) doubles, homered, and drove in seven, while also scoring five times himself.

+ 2028 LHP/1B Luke Hensley, Tri-West: The #2 ranked sophomore lefty in Indiana, Hensley has been dominant, and Week #2 was no different. In 7 2/3 IP, Hensley struck out (19). He also added (3) doubles at this dish.  

+ 2028 RHP Owen Hughes, Hamilton Heights: Hughes was dominant last week on the hill across a couple stints. He went 2-0, struck out (17), and allowed just a (2) hits and (0) ER.

+ 2027 RHP/3B Dylan Pearcy, Southport: The uncommitted junior righty worked (12) IP for the Cardinals last week, striking out (14) while allowing just (1) ER and collecting a pair of wins. He also went 6-for-12 at the dish with a double and 3 RBI. 

+ 2026 2B Blake Melton, Homestead: The senior 2B has been consistent for the #6 Spartans thus far. In Week #2, Melton went 8-for-13 with (5) doubles and (7) runs scored. He also added a pair of stolen bases and (4) RBI.  

+ 2027 3B/P Carter Strole, Fishers, Central Michigan recruit: Strole has been a bright spot for the Tigers offense thus far and had another good week last week. He homered twice during a 5-for-10 week, and also added a double, nine RBI, and he was on-base in 11-of-17 trips. On the bump, Strole worked four innings, and struck out five, taking a tough-luck loss against #3 Zionsville.

+ 2028 OF Jaxon Hale, Hagerstown: The sophomore LHH had a great week #2 as Hagerstown climbs to #10 in our 2A rankings. Hale went 5-for-8 with a double and a homer, and also added (7) runs scored and (6) stolen bases while reaching base in 9-of-12 trips.
