Week 8 Scout Blog
2027 OF Kinon Bastian, The First Academy (FL), Florida recruit
Bastian wasted no time making his presence felt, immediately setting an aggressive tone from the leadoff spot. The Florida recruit possesses an incredibly physical, robust frame that immediately catches your eye on the diamond. He pairs his imposing stature with an exceptionally loud offensive toolset that is built to generate consistent extra-base impact. Bastian demonstrates an attack-oriented mindset and immense raw strength. He ambushed the very first pitch of the game, driving it with authority the other way for a stand-up, backside triple. Patrolling the outfield with the athleticism to match his muscular build, Bastian’s overall profile continues to scream high-ceiling potential.

2027 RHP Hunter Wieckowski, Timber Creek (FL), Florida State recruit
It was our first look at Wieckowski this spring, and while the box score may have reflected a tough outing, his raw stuff is undeniably trending in a loud direction. The Florida State recruit brings an electric arm to the mound, generating premium metrics that point to a massive ceiling as he continues to refine his command and overall feel. His repertoire features a riding fastball that sat in the 90-92 mph range. What truly separates this heater is the 2509 RPM average spin rate, giving it explosive life and carry through the top of the strike zone. To pair with the high-spin fastball, he snapped off a sharp 77-79 mph slider around 2674 RPM. He also flashed a firm 83-86 mph changeup to give opposing batters a different look. Wieckowski got hit around in this look but offers high upside as a 2027 Draft follow.

2026 OF Jon Mora, Somerset Academy (FL), Miami recruit
Mora reinforced his reputation as a dynamic, top-of-the-order threat. The Miami recruit brings a build that is built for quick-twitch movements. Operating from the left side of the plate, he employs a quiet, balanced setup, relying on hand-eye coordination and a mature approach to find success. Mora illustrates exceptional timing and advanced barrel control. He shows an ability to cover the entire strike zone, leading to low swing and miss rates. What truly elevates Mora's overall profile is his speed. Grading out as a plus runner, his wheels make him a constant disruptive force on the basepaths and allow him to cover immense ground in the outfield.

2028 C/OF Nico Ayars, Bishop Verot (FL), Uncommitted
Ayars brings impressive versatility to the diamond. At the plate, he showed off the hit tool he has all spring, smoking a loud RBI double to left. What stands out most in the box is his twitchy actions. He works with a short, compact stroke that allows him to ambush pitches early in the count and do damage before pitchers can settle in. Ayars has the bat speed and instincts to punish velocity and turn on quality strikes. Ayars is one of the more intriguing names to watch in the 2028 class.
