WIAA Diamond Notes: Week 2

Each week, WIAA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the Prep Baseball Wisconsin Player of the Week and Prep Baseball Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week honors. Yesterday, we awarded the Week 2 Player of the Week to C Chase Beahm (Waupun, 2026; Rock Valley JC), Beahm finished the week 5-for-8 with five extra-base hits including two home runs and three doubles, eight RBIs, four runs and two walks. The Pitcher of the Week is LHP Brett Paulsen (Kewaunee, 2026; Wisconsin-Parkside), The southpaw tossed a seven-inning perfect game, striking out 19 of the 21 batters he faced across the outing.
There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.
Week 2 Diamond Notes
+ Sam Ortiz, RHP, INF (Franklin, 2026):
Ortiz started the game against Sussex Hamilton and pitched five innings, allowing four hits and zero walks while striking out five. He allowed one earned run and shifted the momentum of the 5-1 win by hitting a two-run home run. He finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate.
+ Evan Weckman, RHP (St. Thomas More, 2027):
Weckman made two starts against Burlington Catholic Central and Beaver Dam HS, pitching 11⅓ innings. He maintained a 0.618 ERA, allowing only four hits and nine walks while striking out 18 batters.
+ Landyn Leslie, SS/3B/CF (Boyceville, 2026):
Leslie was productive across two appearances against Cumberland and Columbus Catholic, pitching 10 innings with a 1.4 ERA. He allowed five hits and five walks while striking out 14 batters, including 10 in four innings against Cumberland. At the plate, Leslie went 6-for-14 with one triple, one home run, nine RBIs, and four stolen bases.
+ Drew Stettbacher, LHP, CF (North Fond du Lac, 2027):
Stettbacher pitched eight innings against Mayville, allowing no runs on only two hits and two walks while striking out 16. Offensively, he went 3-for-7 with two doubles, two RBIs, and one stolen base.
+ Collin Grass , P/3B (West Bend West , 2027):
Grass appeared in two games with one start, pitching eight total innings. He allowed no runs and gave up only three hits and two walks while striking out 12. He notably recorded four scoreless innings to halt a Nicolet comeback.
+ Carsen Splinter, P (Southwestern, 2027):
Splinter made one eight-inning start against Darlington. He allowed three hits, two earned runs, two walks while striking out 10 batters.
+ Brylen Lee , RHP/C (Mineral Point , 2026):
Lee made two appearances against New Glarus and Iowa-Grant, totaling 7 ⅓ innings. He earned a save against New Glarus and threw a complete game against Iowa-Grant to secure a 4-1 win. He maintained a 0.955 ERA, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six.
+ Nate Stoppelmoor, P/INF (Cochrane-Fountain City, 2027):
Stoppelmoor tossed a complete game against Alma Center Lincoln, allowing one run on four hits and zero walks. He struck out 14 batters in the outing. At the plate, he went 3-for-6 with one double and two stolen bases.
+ Parker Lawson, RHP (Bay Port, 2026):
Lawson threw a complete game shutout against Pulaski, allowing no runs on only one hit and one walk. He dominated the game by striking out 14 batters.
+ Brayden Zimmerman, RHP/DH (Slinger, 2026):
Zimmerman pitched a seven-inning complete game against Menomonee Falls, allowing no runs on three hits and one walk while striking out 11. Offensively, he went 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs, including the go-ahead RBI in a season-opening win against Oak Creek.
+ Jack Templeton, P/1B (Wauwatosa East, 2026):
Templeton went 6-for-11 at the plate with one triple, one RBI, and five stolen bases. He notably stole home on a passed ball to score the winning run against West Bend East. On the mound, he started one game against West Allis Hale, pitching seven innings and allowing no runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six.
+ Brett Rybarczyk, P/1B (Sheboygan North, 2026):
Rybarczyk hit for the cycle across two games, finishing 4-for-5 with one double, one triple, one home run, five RBIs, and one stolen base. He hit the game-winning two-run home run in a 3-2 victory against Manitowoc Lincoln. He also pitched 6 ⅔ innings in that game, striking out nine and allowing just one run.
+ Landon Fuchs, RHP/C (Cudahy, 2028):
Fuchs struck out 12 batters across a five-inning complete game shutout against Milwaukee Lutheran. He was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with five walks, two doubles, one triple, six RBIs, and three stolen bases.
+ Carson Hawley, CF/RHP (Bay Port, 2026):
Hawley pitched five innings against DePere, earning a victory with 12 strikeouts despite allowing four hits and four walks. Offensively, he went 5-for-9 with one double, one home run, three RBIs, and one stolen base.
+ Gavin Lax, RHP (Luxemburg Casco, 2026):
Lax pitched five innings against Southern Door, allowing no runs, zero hits, and zero walks. He struck out 11 batters during the outing.
+ Carson Roemhild, SS (Boyceville, 2026):
Roemhild went 7-for-11 at the plate with six walks, two doubles, and six RBIs. He recorded eight stolen bases, including five in a single game. On the mound across three appearances against Cumberland, Columbus Catholic, and Prentice, he pitched five innings, allowing no runs and zero hits while striking out 10.
+ Blake Hagenow, RHP/1B (Kettle Moraine Lutheran, 2026):
Hagenow went 7-for-11 at the plate with three walks, three doubles, 10 RBIs, and one stolen base. He also made two appearances on the mound against West Bend East, totaling five innings and allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out seven.
+ Maddex Welzien , SS (West Bend West , 2028):
Welzien went 5-for-8 at the plate with four walks, three RBIs, and one stolen base. He also pitched three scoreless innings across two appearances against Port Washington, allowing zero hits and one walk while striking out two to earn a save and a hold.
+ Kellen Pluess, SS / RHP (East Troy, 2027):
Pluess went 5-for-10 at the plate with three walks, one triple, and 10 RBIs. He hit three home runs in the season opener against Whitewater, including one inside-the-park home run.
+ Carson Weist, 1B (St. Thomas More, 2027):
Weist went 8-for-14 at the plate with three walks, two doubles, one home run, and nine RBIs. He also recorded one stolen base.
+ Brayden Alivo, SS (St.Thomas More, 2026):
Alivo was 6-for-12 with six walks, two doubles, one home run, and eight RBIs. He was also aggressive on the bases, recording seven stolen bases.
+ Hunter Isotalo, RF (Greendale, 2027):
Isotalo hit for the cycle during a 26-1 victory over Pius. He went 7-for-10 at the plate with five walks, three doubles, one triple, and one home run. He finished with seven RBIs and three stolen bases.
+ Cooper Sievert, SS (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2027):
Sievert went 4-for-9 at the plate with two walks, two triples, one home run, and six RBIs.
+ Augie Baum , CF (University School of Milwaukee , 2027):
Baum hit for the cycle and recorded 15 hits across five games. His stat line includes going 7-for-16 with two walks, two home runs, five RBIs, and eight stolen bases.
+ Carter Fry, CF (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2027):
Fry went 6-for-10 at the plate with two walks, three doubles, and five RBIs. He also recorded three stolen bases.
+ Jackson Myers, Catcher (Mount Horeb, 2026):
Myers went 6-for-10 at the plate with zero walks. He contributed two doubles and four RBIs.
+ Owen Richardson, 1B (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 2027):
Richardson went 5-for-11 at the plate with one double, one triple, and four RBIs. He notably hit a two-run double to provide insurance runs in a win against Tomah.
+ Nolan Julseth, SS (New Glarus, 2027):
Julseth went 4-for-7 at the plate with five walks, two doubles, one home run, four RBIs, and four stolen bases.
+ Arty Adams, C (Bay Port, 2027):
Adams went 3-for-11 at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs in a 9-3 victory over De Pere.
+ Jack Bline, Catcher (Westosha Central, 2028):
Bline reached base safely in nine straight plate appearances this week, going 9-for-12 at the plate with one walk and three RBIs. He has caught every inning for his team through four games.
+ Tyler Vogt, Catcher (Middleton, 2026):
Vogt went 8-for-14 at the plate with one walk. He recorded two doubles, two triples, and three RBIs.
+ Jackson Strobel, Utility (Waunakee, 2027):
Strobel went 5-for-7 at the plate with one double, one home run, three RBIs, and one stolen base. His first at-bat of the season was a two-run home run.
+ Cayden Heier, 3B (Bay Port, 2026):
Heier went 6-for-9 at the plate with one walk, one triple, and two RBIs.
+ Miken Haddon, 1B (Catholic Memorial, 2026):
Haddon went 2-for-3 at the plate with one walk, one double, one home run, two RBIs, and one stolen base.
+ Jake Cummins, SS (Milton, 2026):
Cummins went 7-for-12 at the plate with one walk, one hit-by-pitch, two doubles, and one RBI. He also recorded four stolen bases and hit a walk-off to win a game against Verona.
+ Henry Grove, 3B/RHP (Wisconsin Dells, 2026):
Grove batted .600 on the week and delivered a go-ahead RBI against Reedsburg. He also pitched in the eighth inning to secure a six-five win.
+ Brady Lessner, (Watertown, 2026):
Lessner made one appearance on the mound against Waupun, pitching 4 ⅓ innings. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out six batters.
+ Ethan Kagel, P (Riverdale, 2027):
Kagel made two starts on the mound, pitching 13 ⅔ innings and striking out 21 batters. He allowed five hits and four walks. At the plate, he went 5-for-10 with two walks, one double, one triple, and two RBIs.
