The 2026 VA/DC high school season fully and officially kicked off on March 16th. We begin our weekly awards for a couple different areas, including today's featured Team of the Week. Team of the Week will run each and every Wednesday. This story will highlight a team that had a strong week, which usually includes at least one win over a Power 25/quality opponent.

Week 1 Team of the Week: St. Anne's Belfield

Week 2 Team of the Week: Oakton Cougars

 

For week two, the Team of the Week goes to the Oakton Cougars. The Cougars went 5-0 between Monday and Sunday. They piled up 51 runs and only allowed a total of 7 runs. In addition to their win total, Oakton brought home a win over previously ranked West Springfield by a final score of 13-2. While there were certainly some standout games for a few guys, it really was a team effort all week, with players up and down the lineup contributing. In their big win over West Springfield guys like Will Donohue (York), Cooper Bradshaw, Griffin Murphy, Dawson Givens , and Jack Greene all had multiple hits that night, with Murphy, Bradshaw, and Givens accounting for 10 of their 12 total RBI's. On the back end of the week, uncommitted senior Gordon Cozad asserted his offensive upside and was 6-11 in their final three games.
