Everything high school baseball related will be on the GHSA tab on our website. It can be found HERE. This will include the Power 25, Classification Rankings, weekly scout blogs and more.

Today, we are going to introduce a new piece of content called the “Daily Round Up”. Here we will take a look at the games our scouts went to from the previous day and highlight key moments, standout players and our takeaways from the game.

Walker @ Mount Vernon

Score: Walker win, 7-0

Standouts:

Joaquin Santos, RHP, 2026, Walker

Jonathan Griggs, C, 2026, Walker

Grant Addison, OF, 2026, Walker

Zachary Munafo, 1B, 2026, Walker

David Griggs, 2B, 2028, Walker

Austin Lipscomb, 1B/3B, 2028, Walker

James Whittingham, 3B, 2028, Walker

Key Moments: Walker jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind a lead-off double from Grant Addison. The Wolverines added 3-runs in the 3rd inning as Jonathan Griggs launched a solo HR, Zachary Muanfo doubled, and David Griggs added an RBI knock to make it 5-0. They would scratch another run in the 6th via an Austin Lipscomb RBI double and tacked on another in the 7th as James Whittingham came through with an RBI single to make it 7-0. Joaquin Santos carried a perfect game through 6.2 IP as he shut down the opposing offense all night long.

Avery’s Takeaway: This very well could have been the best pitching performance of the Spring as Joaquin Santos tossed a gem against a quality opposing lineup. Went 7.0 IP in a CG with 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 BB, and 10 K. Santos looks the part of a workhorse as the SP1 and boasts high-level pitchability as he gives the Wolverines a chance to win on any given night. Grant Addison paced the lineup out of the lead-off spot with a pair of knocks and brings lockdown defense in centerfield as well. Jonathan Griggs is a major piece in the heart of the order and launched a solo HR while showing well behind the plate. Uncommitted senior Zachary Munafo, had a multi-hit game out of the cleanup spot and has done nothing but hit in each look. The duo of Travis Tatom and David Griggs looked the part up-the-middle in the dirt and added base-hits at the plate as well. Underclassmen Austin Lipscomb and James Whittingham added RBI knocks as they are key contributors to the lineup. This is a well-coached group that knows what it takes to win as they do the little things right and will be a team to watch if they can get hot down the stretch. The Mustangs had a tough time getting anything going as Santos was locked in all night, but there are pieces in this lineup that can carry the offense on any given night as they look to bounce back in a quality matchup against Landmark Christian on Thursday.

North Gwinnett @ Norcross
Score: 8-3 North Gwinnett wins
Standouts:
Calvin Brown, OF, 2026, North Gwinnett

Allan Ichim, SS, 2028, North Gwinnett

Brooks DeRosa, OF, 2028, North Gwinnett

Tristan Alvarez, SS, 2026, Norcross

Austin Walsh, INF, 2026, Norcross

Key Moments:
The tone was set from the jump by senior outfielder, Calvin Brown with a no doubt home run to right in the first AB of the game. Sophomore Wesley Thiry settled in a bit after that, and held the North Gwinnett offense at bay for 4 ⅓ innings. Brown would tack on another run with a RBI single in the 2nd. From there the North Gwinnett defense came through with 3 inning ending double plays that saved them from Norcross getting back into the game. Joseph Mittiga battled in the zone, forcing contact. Norcross was able to get some momentum in the 5th with a leadoff single by Zien Goodine. Will Thiry followed him up with another single then Brayden Long came through with a single to make it 3-1. Wesley Thiry then sent a deep fly ball to right for a SAC and then Tristan Alvarez delivered a clutch 2 out hit to tie the game. North Gwinnett didn’t waste anytime getting back into the game.Brooks DeRosa led off the 6th with a single then Allan Ichim delivered the final blow with a go-ahead 2 run home run. Mittiga worked a shutdown 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half to send it to the 7th. Brody Miller would come on in the 7th and close things out for the Dawgs.

Huddy’s Takeaways:
This was a much needed first look at North Gwinnett for me. The 6A classification is wide open right now and they are just one of many teams that are going to be in the mix. I got a chance to see them against one of the top arms in the sophomore class in Wesley Thiry. The Bulldogs have a strong core led by captains Joseph Mittiga, CJ Brown, Austin Neese and Graydon Sellers. These 4 pace the offense alongside sophomores Allan Ichim and Brooks DeRosa. Their offense is going to produce runs and if they can find some arms to step around Mittiga and Banks Halcomb their line up will be able to hang with any arm they face.
