The Kansas high school baseball season kicks off on Mar. 19, opening day for regular season action under KSHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2026 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down to the official Prep Baseball Kansas Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

  • Skilled shortstop, one of our best hitters, and solid on the mound. Leadoff hitter, runs well, plus hands and glove.
• Gatlin Tilson (2026) - 6'3 200, R/R, OF/P
  • Butler CC signee 
  • 2025 Stats: .301/.416/.446, 25, 9 2B, 1 HR, 19 R, 23 RBI; 0.00 ERA, 2 SV;
  • Starting outfielder and middle of the order bat. Big power, bat speed, and athleticism. Will also pitch in relief.
• Aiden Henry (2026) - 5'9 160, R/R, IF/P
  • 2025 Stats: .341/.417/.365, 29 H, 2 2B, 7 R, 7 RBI; 2.66 ERA, 47.1 IP, 3-2;
  • True competitor and winner. Middle infielder, who is an extremely tough out at the plate, and competes on the mound. Athlete.
• Shal Ruud (2026) - 6'4 175, L/R, IF/P
  • 2025 Stats: .263/.352/.303, 20 H, 3 2B, 7 R, 12 RBI; 2.28 ERA, 43 IP, 3-4;
  • Athlete, swing and miss stuff on the mound, skilled 3B defender, LHH who does a good job using the whole field.
• Brody Bailey (2026) - 6'2 175, R/R, P
  • Dodge City CC signee 
  • 2025 Stats: 1.08 ERA, 3-0, 26 IP, 24 K, 16 H;
  • Submarine RHP, difficult arm slot, can start or relieve, broke our school ERA record in 2025.
• Parker Lane (2026) - 5'10 200, R/R, IF
  
  • Corner infielder with a plus glove, who is a tough out at the plate, and great situational hitter.
• Ty Brown (2026) - 5'8 150, R/R, OF
  • One of the better defensive outfielders in our league, runs well and is a threat on the basepath.
• Ryan Hatfield (2027) - 6' 175, R/R, OF/C
  • 2025 Stats: .289/.379/.329, 22 H, 1 2B, 1 3B, 14 R, 11 RBI;
  • One of the best overall athletes in our program, will catch and play outfield, speed and power at the plate. Skilled baserunner.
• Issac Holt (2027) - 6'3 195, R/R, UTL
  • 2025 Stats: .286/.444/.457, 3 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 18 R, 7 RBI;
  • Skilled baseball player, who is a combination of OBP and SLG at the plate. Will play OF and 1B. Another player on the roster that runs well.

Coach’s Insight: “We return an experienced and talented team from the 2025 season. This includes both the majority of our hitters and pitchers. Offensively, we will feature both power and speed throughout the lineup. On the mound, we return 78% of our innings pitched from a 2025 staff that had a 2.89 ERA. Our biggest goals for this year will be developing depth at the catcher and 1B positions. Those are two areas on defense where we lost seniors following the 2025 season.” – James Hilts, head coach
