Staff

The high school baseball season is officially underway. This is our favorite time of the year and we can’t wait to cover the state from now until the state championship. Be sure to to be tuned in daily for content on the season.

Everything high school baseball related will be on the GHSA tab on our website. It can be found HERE. This will include the Power 25, Classification Rankings, weekly scout blogs and more.

Today, we are going to introduce a new piece of content called the “Daily Round Up”. Here we will take a look at the games our scouts went to from the previous day and highlight key moments, standout players and our takeaways from the game.

First Presbyterian Day @ Gatewood

Score: First Presbyterian Day win, 14-4

Standouts:

Keon Johnson, SS, 2026, First Presbyterian Day

Brady McHugh, 2B, 2026, First Presbyterian Day

Sam Bryant, OF, 2027, First Presbyterian Day

Conner Strandmark, 1B/RHP, First Presbyterian Day

Tinsley Lewis, C, 2026, First Presbyterian Day

Key moments: The Vikings jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back from there en route to a huge 14-4 win. Posted 5-runs in the 1st behind a Wyatt Waters RBI single and a 3-run HR from Conner Strandmark. Gatewood battled early as they added 4-runs in the bottom half of the innings behind an RBI double from Lawson Moore and a 2 RBI XBH from Wesley Lavigne. First Pres scratched across another run in the 2nd on a Brady McHugh sacrifice fly extending the lead to 6-4. The Vikings put up a 3-spot in the 4th inning as Sam Bryant hit a solo HR, Wyatt Waters added another RBI single, and Tinsley Lewis collected an RBI as well from a sacrifice fly to make it 9-4. The bats would erupt again in the 7th as they tacked on 5 more runs behind 3 HR. Keon Johnson (2-run), Brady McHugh (solo), and Tinsley Lewis (2-run) to extend the lead to 14-4.

Avery’s Takeaway: The bats were rolling for the Vikings as nearly everyone 1-9 made significant contributions. This is a really well-connected group of upperclassmen that play for one another and do the little things right. The perfect blend of hit, speed, and power is littered throughout the lineup and a chance to beat anyone on a nightly basis when it’s clicking on all cylinders. Grant Martin and Conner Strandmark looked the part in relief and if the rest of the pitching staff can come together this team will be extremely tough to beat on any given night. Gatewood will look to bounce back as a stout underclass group leads the way with the likes of Lawson Moore, Jayden Moss, and Conner Mitchem. Brady Haley is another sophomore of note who has shown well in my looks this Spring. The lone senior in the lineup, Ben Brannen, paces the offense at the top. The Gators are still undefeated in region and look to be in the mix down the stretch.

North Cobb @ Etowah (DH)

Score: Etowah wins, 10-0, 17-0

Standouts:

Trevor Condon, OF, 2026, Etowah

Carson Moore, OF, 2026, Etowah

Nate Curcio, RHP/SS, 2027, Etowah

Deion Cole, OF, 2026, Etowah

Colin Anderson, SS, 2028, Etowah

Jackson Norwood, 3B, 2027, Etowah

Key Moments:

GM1: After a quiet first couple innings for both teams, Colin Anderson would open the door in a hurry with a no-doubt 2-run HR in the 3rd inning to extend the lead to 3-0 in game one. After Carson Moore added another run with an RBI 2B in the 5th, Etowah would explode for a 6-run 6th highlighted by a Trevor Condon 3-run HR and Deion Cole 2-run 3B that closed the door.

GM2: Eagles wasted zero time setting the tone in game two with a 7-run crooked number in the 1st inning. 8 batters would reach base in the inning with a backside HR from Matthew Sharman and RBI 2B from Trevor Condon as the daggers. Some early mistakes from the Warriors helped lead to constant runners on-base and a huge 10-run inning from the Eagles. Deion Cole put an exclamation point on the night with a loud HR that carried way over the scoreboard.

Ian’s Takeaway: After a close 2-1 win to open the series, the Eagles showed how potent the offense can be to close out the sweep, scoring 27 runs across the home doubleheader. Trevor Condon has found the stroke in region play with 9 XBH (3 HR, 6 2B) in his last 6 games and catalyst might not be an even strong enough term to explain the value the Tennessee commit has to the top of this lineup. Matthew Sharman and Caden Borcherding remain the most consistent power producers in the lineup with Colin Anderson showing off the prestigious power potential with a monster pull-side HR on the night. Deion Cole finished just a single shy of the cycle across the DH and can change games in a hurry when he’s dialed in like last night. The emergence of Nate Curcio stepping up and taking the #2 job in the rotation was paramount this spring and the former future gamer continues to take strides with every outing. Multiple quality starts this spring and looks more ready to handle the brunt of region play. Eagles have quietly rattled off 11-straight wins and looking like

Evans @ Greenbrier

Score: 9-1, Greenbrier wins
Standouts:
Rylan Farlow, RHP/SS, 2028, Greenbrier

Leland McCook, C, 2027, Greenbrier

Devon McLoughlin, SS, 2028, Greenbrier

Jonathan White, 1B, 2027, Greenbrier

Key Moments:
In a big region game between Greenbrier and Evans, Evans struck first after they capitalized on a walk with a RBI single by Conner Paist. After the first Greenbrier took control of the game. They would go on to put 3 up in the first after back to back errors by the defense. In the 2nd Colt Manning had a perfect drag bunt for a single and then Rylan Farlow delivered a loud SAC fly to make it 4-1. Evans had some momentum in the 2nd, but Devon McLoughlin came through with a big unassisted double play at SS. From there Greenbrier played ABC baseball with McLoughlin getting the 4th started with a walk then 2 stolen bases, followed by a SAC fly from Colt Manning. Leland McCook then opened things up with a 2 RBI double to make it 7-1. Greenbrier would go on to score a couple more runs to make it a 9-1 final with Rylan Farlow going the complete 7 inning game with 6 strikeouts.

Huddy’s Takeaway’s:
These were 2 5A teams we needed to get eyes on, and we had Rylan Farlow on the list to get out to see as well. The sophomore was ultra impressive in the look with a fastball up to 92 and 3 barrels at the plate. Do not be surprised if this Greenbrier team is fighting for a state title in the next 2 years. They had one senior in their line up with 4 sophomores in there. Fellow Sophomore’s Devon McLoughlin and Colt Manning set the tone at the top of the order with Farlow. Then junior Leland McCook and Jonathan White control the heart of the order. They have even more physicality behind them with juniors Drew Charter and Jace Granade. They play clean baseball with a strong line up 1-9. Evans is going to continue their strong season with a scrappy line up where senior Bryson Crewe leads the way. Crewe is one of the more athletic centerfielders in the state with plus speed and a really strong bat at the top of the order. Junior Charlie Bates is going to be one to keep eyes on as we head into the summer with physicality that stands out and a big bat in this Evans line up. Conner Paist battled on the mound and will continue to be a key arm for them. We will need to check back in on both teams later in the year and see what kind of depth they have on the mound to determine how their playoff run(s) could go.
