Throughout the VA/DC high school season, our staff travels far and wide to identify the best players in the Commonwealth. In additon to that, our staff delivers evaluations and video to assist players in their recruiting process. Every week our staff members provide notes and video in an assortment of scout blogs. Jordan Jones, the Virginia/DC Assistant Scouting Director, will be delivering his weekly scout blog on some of the players he saw during his travels.

Highland

Liam Bunner RHP / Highland School, VA / 2026

Coming out of the bullpen with some runners on was a tough situation, but he made some big pitches to get out of the inning unscathed. Bunner went on to go scoreless in his outing, picking up three strikeouts. It was a two-pitch mix with a fastball and splitter that worked well off each other. The fastball worked in the mid-eighties, getting up to 88, and worked mostly to the glove side. The splitter was effective with the speed differential and late depth that it had at 73-75. The arsenal can be effective down the stretch out of a bullpen role.

Kaden Zimorowicz RHP / SS / Highland School, VA / 2027

When he gets going, Zimorowicz can have one of the most electric arsenals in the VA/DC 2027 class. He showed flashes of that at times throughout his outing, including his first inning, where he struck out the side in quick fashion. The fastball was working in the upper eighties early on, even touching 90, but settled in the 86-89 range. The confidence in the slider was evident, and was the go-to pitch with two strikes. He maintains arm speed on the breaking ball at 79-81, which has sharp late depth that generated swing and misses. The changeup was the third pitch in the arsenal, and when it was landed for strikes, it flashed as a plus pitch that stayed firm and had some late tumble. Despite one mistake in the second inning, he still gave his team a chance to get a win.

St. Albans

Jack Guerin SS / RHP / St. Alban's, VA / 2028

There were some ups and downs in his outing, but he still managed to turn in a quality outing and give his team a chance to win. He worked through some traffic in the second inning, where he gave up his only two runs of the day. He worked through four innings, striking out five. There was heavy fastball usage in the outing, as there was inconsistent feel for the curveball. When the curveball landed for strikes, he had success. He did flash the changeup, which was used on right handed hitters. The fastball was in the 87-90 range early in the outing and settled in at 85-88, where he had most of his success at the bottom of the strike zone. The curveball velocity will need to be firmer for long-term success, but it has quality depth with a higher spin profile. It is a long, wiry frame at 6-foot-2,174-pounds that moves with easy effort. As he continues to add strength, the stuff can tick up.

Caleb Kim 3B / OF / St. Albans School, MD / 2026

Kim is a physical presence from the left side that looks to do damage when at the plate. He was able to do that in a big spot for the Bulldogs in the late innings. He got a pitch on the inner half that he could handle and sent it off the wall in right field, which brought in a few runs. There is above-average bat speed that can impact the baseball to the pull side. He shows some zone awareness and can do damage if a pitch is left over the plate.

John Melrose C / 1B / St. Albans School, VA / 2027

Melrose was the lone Bulldog to turn in a multi-hit game against St. John’s. His two hits came late in the late comeback effort with a total of three RBI’s. He showed confidence in the box and the ability to recognize secondary pitches. It is lean strength in the frame that flashes some impact. It is minimal movement with a level barrel path that works towards the pull side.

St. John's

Jackson Bringger SS / OF / St Johns College High School, DC / 2027

If there was one word to describe Bringger it would be “tough.” When he steps on the field, it is a high energy that brings a competitive edge. He put together quality at-bats throughout the day, being a tough out and fouling off close pitches to get to a pitch that he wanted. He cashed in early in the game with a two run single to get the scoring started for the Cadets. It is a contact approach with line drive tendencies to all fields. Defensively he shows good pace and bounce in the infield. It is slightly above average to average arm strength with a second base profile long term but plays with bounce and high instincts to be able to move around in the infield. He is a spark plug that can make an impact on both sides.

Jack Jenkins 1B / 3B / St. John's College, VA / 2026

Jenkins set the tone for the Cadets early with a quality start on the mound. He went five scoreless innings, carving his way through the lineup and picking up six strikeouts. His ability to mix different pitches and locate them led to his success. The fastball worked to the corners in the low eighties. The changeup was the winner of the day, which he showed confidence in and generated plenty of swing and misses. It was a gutsy performance where he competes throughout.

Steward

Brooks Johnson 2B / RHP / THE STEWARD SCHOOL, VA / 2027

With a runner on and two outs, Johnson delivered the biggest swing of the day. He was on time for the elevated first pitch fastball and sent a no doubt two run home run out of left field. It is a lean 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame that has evident strength to the pull side that looks to lift the baseball. The offense that Johnson provided would be all that the Spartans needed to pull off the win.

Tex Stinnett RHP / RHP / VA, Henrico Steward School, VA / 2026

It was a gutsy performance that Stinnett turned in against a talented lineup. He went seven scoreless innings of one hit ball. There were multiple times where he had to make some pitches to get out of a jam, and he took it up a notch to get out of the inning. He did a nice job of mixing pitches to keep the opposing lineup off balance. As the game progressed, he continued to gain confidence in the breaking ball, and it generated a lot of off balance swings. The fastball worked in the low-eighties, and he was able to locate it to avoid damage. This outing was good for the Spartans, as they can continue to grow confidence as the season progresses.
