For the next two weeks we will roll out our Preseason Power 25. We will release three teams per day for the first week and then move to two teams per day once we reach the Top 10 next week. Voting for preseason teams centers more around the depth of talent on that team, the roster outlook, previous success with players on the roster, as well as where it stacks up within their region/area, as opposed to strictly predicting schedule outcomes. Our staff weighs ten different categories (i.e. offensive depth, impact players, frontline arm, pitching staff depth, sustained program success, etc).
Generally, larger schools and classifications have a greater depth of player talent on roster. However, once the season begins and records begin to take shape, the Power 25 will be adjusted as needed. In addition to that, we will debut our Private School Top 10 around late-March/early-April and the Small School Top 10 around mid-April. This will allow teams to settle in and their schedule to begin to shake out. Our first overall Power 25 update, due to the VHSL season being pushed back a week, will come Monday, March 30th.
#1: Miller School Mavericks
2025 Record: 34-6 *VISAA Division I Champions*
Returners: Mandela Browman (UNC), Noah Gray (ECU), Dillon O'Connor (Ferrum), Jacob Rexrode (Ferrum), Jackson Rosales (Ferrum), Naomi Ryan, JM Szefc, Will Tomlinson (Ferrum), Drew Wade, Kason Wagner (Coastal Carolina)
Key Losses: Evan Hankins (Tennessee), Drew Lucy (Charleston-WV), Jackson Sneathern
Season Outlook: The Miller School Mavericks are coming off of one of the best seasons in program history. The Mavs started 1-4 after a grueling trip to Florida, that has been an annual thing for the program. While to the common observer this may be a bad look for the start of the season, this simply prepares them for the road to come. This season may look eerily similar to start, but to the chagrin of other programs, the end result may be just as similar as 2025. They have the pitching to compete with anyone and they have the best offense of any private school team, and maybe the second best overall behind Battlefield. The schedule to start may see them slide a little in the Power 25 to begin with, but we feel strongly that they will once again reign supreme at the end of the 2026 season.
