2026 OSSAA Team Preview: Newcastle Racers
February 26, 2026
The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on Feb. 23 for classes A and B and Mar. 1 for classes 2A-6A, opening day for regular season action under OSSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2025 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down to the official Prep Baseball Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.
Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.
Our 2026 preseason coverage continues today.

Coach’s Insight: “Our team has alot of experience coming back this year with 12 seniors on the team. We are deep on the mound mound with 3 top arms all signed to play at the next level. The team returns 6 hitters who all had good years last year and look for more of the same this season. Coming off back to back state tournament runs in 4A, we hope with the jump to 5A we can get back to the state tournament this season. We just need to make sure not get in our own way and make sure we do all the small things right.” – Jarod King , head coach
Outlook: Newcastle marches into 2026 on a shortlist of State Title favorites as they move into 5A. They return a 1-2 district tandem on the mound that rivals any two in the state, regardless of class, in Tyler Frazier and Kaden Longman. The Racers will also have versatility with guys that can defend at multiple positions and offer depth to the pitching staff. Championships have traditionally been won with steady pitching and defense and Newcastle will feature both high-end talent as well as depth that will pay dividends in the postseason environment. Offensively, they return a bulk of a talented offense from a season ago, but they will need to replace the middle-of-the-order thump that departed from last year's state semifinal team. Coach King and his staff will have depth on the mound as well as a lengthy, deep lineup that will contend for a State Title in May.
