MLB Draft Roundup: Texas Prospects

Prep Baseball Texas Scouting Staff

With the MLB Draft on the horizon, scouting departments are descending on ballparks from across the state to find the next generation of big-league stars. But who really projects to the next level?

We break down the tools, mechanics, ceilings, and provide video on some of the state's premier prospects.

2026 PROSPECTS (2/23 Update)

Savion Sims RHP / OF / Prestonwood Christian Academy, TX / 2026

RHP Savion Sims | Prestonwood Christian | 2026 | Oklahoma Commit | 6'8" 205 lbs.

Long, lanky build, frame. Will add strength. Expect to see body control firm as he adds strength and matures physically.

Arm speed present. FB topped at 100, worked 96-99 1st 2 innings pitched. Overpowered HS hitters with FB, was effective down in zone and elevated. Felt hitters did have some pretty good swings at some FB’s mid thigh area. 3rd inning pitched 93-99, struggled with command with extended inning due to dropped 3rd strike. Backed off on occasion for strikes in 3rd.

Having never seen Savion before, word prior to game was that he struggled with landing breaking ball in past. Did not see that, flashed quality sliders with varying action at 86-88. Was able to get swing and miss in zone and chase out of zone. Mixed in bullet type slider/cutter at 88-89. Slider was better of secondary this day.

Overall, he was around zone, impressive outing. Dominated hitters with 10 K’s in 3 innings. 2 BB’s came in 3rd inning that was extended after dropped 3rd.

Grady Emerson SS / 2B / Fort Worth Christian, TX / 2026

SS Grady Emerson | Fort Worth Christian | 2026 | Texas Commit

Physically looks great with room to add increased strength. Defensively shows solid 1st step quickness and reads off bat. Actions with ability to make plays. Raw arm strength present, makes accurate throws from angles on the move. Shows instincts.

55 runner, tick above avg, don’t have as a pure plus runner.

Hit over power, gap to gap guy, player who shows he can handle bat. Raw power is developing, not to say he doesn’t show raw now, he does, as proven by his success in the T-Mobile HR Derby. See as above avg doubles guy with line drive, gap to gap approach. Key element to look for this spring is plate discipline, not chasing/expanding zone.

During draft meetings, there are times when a player comparison comes mind. For Grady, my comparison would be Matt Carpenter type production at plate with ability to play SS.

Easton Autrey 3B / 1B / Corsicana, TX / 2026

LHH OF/1B Easton Autrey | Corsicana | Texas Commit | 6'4" 235 lbs.

Looks great physically, country strong.

Can impact the baseball, it's a memorable BP. Hits em high, hard and far with consistency to all fields. Solid hit approach, impressed in game seen, didn’t chase out of zone, when he got his pitch, got swings off with hard contact. Will be important to maintain this approach when district play starts and pitches to hit will be at a premium.

Defensively, I would write my report on him as an outfielder, carry to throws present, 55 (avg/plus) raw arm strength now, plus future. Moves fine in the outfield, fringe avg range.

Will be a capable defender at 1st. Feet work fielding, hands are fine. Spends majority of time for HS at 3rd base now. Got see him play 3rd, 1st and RF in game seen. Looks most comfortable and relaxed in OF.

True power bat, will hit to get to the  power. Love the make up.

Jorvorskie Lane OF / SS / Grapevine, TX / 2026

CF/RF Jorvorskie Lane Jr. | Grapevine | 2026 | Arkansas Commit | 6'0" 200 lbs.

Athletic, explosive, showing now strength, will add more in future.

Plus runner, shows range in OF. Projects to have plus raw arm strength, carry to throws present. Defensively will be a fit both in CF and RF.

Aggressive hitter with plus bat speed. Can impact baseball to all fields showing raw power. Aggressiveness at plate is a detriment at times, would like to see more K zone recognition at plate, laying off pitches off plate or not ideal pitches to hit with less than 2 strikes. Acceleration present, will get his share of stolen bases.

Will be 18.1 at draft, which is factor with some teams models that consider age at draft. Jorvorskie has tools, easy to get aggressive when projecting future role. Reminds me of Lastings Milledge when he was in HS.

Trey Rangel RHP / The Colony, TX / 2026

RHS Trey Rangel (The Colony HS, 2026; Texas Commit)
Summation: RHP Physically has added strength with room to add more. Arm speed present. FB touched 97, worked 93-96. FB command must firmed, that was a question coming into the spring, didn’t do anything to alleviate that question this outing. 2 seam will add to effectiveness of 4 seam. 2 seam has quality action. Hitters got some nice swings off against 4 seam in this brief look. Blended breaking ball at 83, pitch developing. Showed cutter in pen with action present, DNS in game. Cutter will be solid pitch. Change with action and avg deception. Stuff is there. Tough look, struggled with command in 1st spring outing while flashing secondary in CB and change. Stuff to dominate hitters as the spring moves forward. Will be scouted early as scouts make decision whether they are in or out. Command is the key.

James Jorgensen RHP / Jesuit College Prep, TX / 2026

RHP James Jorgensen (Jesuit Prep Dallas, 2026; Texas Commit)
Summation: Solid build with strength to lower. High hands rocker step delivery, repeats. Arm works with arm speed present. FB 94-97, touched 98. For me, I think he works 95-97 this spring and shows better than the 98 seen today. Not a big statement since he did hit 98, but at this point, every tick up is noteworthy. CB 74-77, will continue to firm action and add velo to pitch, plus pitch future. Change has been a quality pitch in past with action, deception, did not see this day. Mixed in couple pitches at 81-82, not sure if working on SL or change with bad release.

Will dominate HS hitters this spring. FB up to 98, feel for CB and change, bad combination for HS hitters.

Will be heavily scouted as organizations gather history. Did not pitch till late in fall in 2025, missed spring and summer with knee injury.

FUTURE DRAFT WATCH (2/23 Update)

Tyler Scarborough RHP / Lovejoy, TX / 2027

RHP Tyler Scarborough | Lovejoy | 2027 | Georgia Commit | 6'4" 175 lbs.

Lean, 6’4 175. Will add strength and size. Repeats delivery, little bit of head puller down. Arm works with full circle, arm speed present. FB 93-96, 97 in 2 IP. Scattered around zone, BA command this day.

Slider varies, pitched 83-84. Inconsistent release point. Action present, struggled to land in zone. DNS change this outing.

2027 prospect who will add strength. Arm speed present. FB velocity present, I expect top end velo to increase some. Slider has action, can get swing and miss in zone. Command in zone must be firmed for success. With command firmed, stuff present to dominate HS hitters.

Prospect/Follow

- Max Semler, North Texas Scouting Director

Cullen Scott RHP / 3B / Melissa, TX / 2028

RHS/3B Cullen Scott | Melissa | 2028 | 6'3" 215 lbs.

Great build/frame to add strength. Width to shoulders and back.

Repeats delivery and arm action, arm speed. FB worked 90-95, 2 seam 94-95 with late life present, avg to plus action with 2 seam. Swing and miss up in zone with 4 seam carry and 2 seam action down. Breaking ball with avg action at times, depth present, 81-83. DNS change or 4th pitch this outing.

High follow. Impressive with 2 pitch mix this day in 1 inning to get work in. Team USA 15U member as 2 way player in 2025. Expect to see tick higher velocity spring as it warms up and he gets innings.

Landon Bonner SS / 2B / Hebron, TX / 2028

SS/2B Landon Bonner (Hebron, 2028; uncommitted)
Summation: Plus athlete with quick twitch. Plus runner, 6.6 60 yd. Acceleration present, will get his share of SB’s. Feet quickness present, showed on defense. Has actions with instincts. Made plays on the move, especially impressive on slow rollers. Can hit, handles bat. Has shown pull side power at previous events. Love the make up. Plays hard, hustles. 1st one on and off the field. Aggressive runner out of box looking for extra base. Prospect.
