Notable Recaps from Wednesday

Brophy College Prep (5) vs. Mountain Ridge (0)
Brophy College Prep shut out Mountain Ridge 5-0 on Wednesday, riding a strong two-pitcher performance and timely offense to secure the win. Brophy struck early in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on a walk and back to back hits, including a run scoring double, to build a three run advantage. The early cushion allowed the pitching staff to settle in and control the tempo the rest of the way. The Broncos added insurance in the sixth when Ian Palumbo connected on a two-run home run to center field, extending the lead and putting the game out of reach. Grady Openden earned the win with four scoreless innings, while Noah Stewart followed with three shutout frames in relief to complete the combined shutout. Mountain Ridge generated a few scoring opportunities, including a multi-hit effort from the Carter Neville in the leadoff spot, but Brophy’s pitching and clean defensive play preserved the five-run victory from start to finish.

Queen Creek (5) vs. Hamilton (2)
Queen Creek earned a 5-2 win over Hamilton on Wednesday, overcoming an early deficit with a strong middle innings surge. Queen Creek opened the scoring in the third inning on an error, but Hamilton answered in the bottom half when Ben Ball lined an RBI single down the left field line and Parker Rahn added a sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead. Queen Creek responded quickly in the fourth, regaining control after Diego Armenta was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Aguirre followed with a two run single to move back in front. The Bulldogs added insurance in the seventh on a solo home run to right field from Jordan Ransom, extending the advantage to three. Tyke Daniels went the distance for Queen Creek, allowing seven hits and two runs over seven innings while walking none. Jet Berry set the tone at the top of the lineup with two hits and two stolen bases as Queen Creek played clean defense to close out the three run victory.

Saguaro (7) vs. Mountain View (3)
Saguaro earned a 7-3 road win over Mountain View on Wednesday, using a big first inning to take early control and never look back. The Sabercats broke through in the top of the first with a mix of productive outs and timely hitting, highlighted by a two run single and another RBI knock that quickly built a multi run cushion. Saguaro added to the lead in the third on an RBI single down the left field line to extend the advantage. Mountain View pushed across three runs early, but Saguaro’s pitching staff settled in over the final four innings to shut the door. Taichi Ebino delivered four scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit while limiting traffic on the bases. Offensively, Saguaro finished with nine hits, with Conner Hansen and Alain Gomez each collecting two hits and Jude Dravecky driving in three runs from the middle of the lineup. Mountain View showed patience at the plate and drew several walks, but Saguaro’s timely pitching and clean defensive play secured the four run victory.

Desert Vista (6) vs. Desert Mountain (5)
Desert Vista earned a dramatic 6-5 walk off victory over Desert Mountain on Wednesday in a tightly contested matchup that featured multiple momentum swings. Desert Vista opened the scoring in the first inning after an error, but Desert Mountain answered in the second, capitalizing on walks and timely at bats to move in front. The visitors added another run in the third to extend the lead and apply early pressure. Brock MacDonald got the start on the mound for Desert Vista before the bullpen took over, keeping the game within reach. The turning point came in the sixth inning when Anthony Renda launched a three run home run to right field to flip the score in Desert Vista’s favor. Later in the frame, Kason Webb delivered a run scoring single that proved to be the game winner. Hagen Haefs provided key relief innings to steady the middle of the game, and Anthony Solis closed it out to secure the win. Luke Hutton added two hits at the plate, while Renda finished with three runs batted in as Desert Vista completed the comeback at home.

Chaparral (6) vs. Corona del Sol (5)
Chaparral held off a late rally to secure a 6-5 win over Corona del Sol on Wednesday, building a four run cushion before surviving a tight finish. Corona del Sol struck first in the opening inning on a run scoring single from Parker Williams, but Chaparral responded in the third. Chase Solar lined a double down the left field line and Tanner Anderson followed with an RBI single, each driving in a run to swing the momentum back in Chaparral’s favor. The Firebirds continued to add on, eventually stretching the lead to four runs before Corona del Sol mounted a charge late with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to close the gap. Devin Long earned the win for Chaparral, allowing two runs over six innings while striking out nine. Finn Cooney came on to collect the save and preserve the one run victory. Solar led Chaparral with two runs batted in, while Anderson, Anders Norgaard, Cruz Chavez, and Bo Shuba each contributed a hit. For Corona del Sol, Williams finished with two hits and two runs batted in, and Kellen Tom added two hits as the Aztecs pushed until the final out.
