The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.
With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this first edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Centreville
| |
Caysen Chadha SS / RHP / Centreville High, VA / 2026Chadha impacted all parts of the game between two contests in front of our staff. The Denison commit started at shortstop in his first game, making multiple tough plays. In his second game, Chadha started on the mound. He worked his fastball up to 86, showing his arm talent, but struggled to command the zone. In both contests, Chadha showed impact with his bat. In his second game, Chadha lasered a double to the fence in left center field. Chadha should continue to be an important part of this Centreville offense and defense.

Clark Chase 1B / LHP / Centreville High, VA / 2029A big 6’3”, 210 lb freshman, Chase showed his strength in front of our staff at this winter’s NOVA Preseason All-State. In one of his first varsity at bats, Chase rocketed a single into center field. Chase already uses his large frame well and could develop into a middle of the order bat for the Wildcats.

|
Michael Gambone LHP / 1B / Centreville High, VA / 2026Gambone, the Appalachian State commit and Prep Baseball Senior Future Games alum, had an excellent five inning start for the Wildcats. Gambone is an easy mover, not using much intent to battle with hitters. He showed strong pitch ability on Monday, landing four different offerings. His fastball worked in the mid 80s, with Gambone able to locate it well away from hitters. Gambone showed two breaking balls, a curveball with a 12-6 shape between 67-69 and a sweeping slider from 75-77. Gambone could use both pitches to get whiffs, no matter the handedness of the hitter. Gambone also mixed in a changeup in the low 70s to right-handed hitters. Overall, a dominant 5IP with only 1ER and six punchouts.

Zander Robinson RHP / RHP / Centreville, VA / 2027Robinson had a short and strong outing in relief for Centreville. Robinson is an athletic mover with a quick arm down the mound. Robinson only used the fastball on Tuesday, showing two different shapes. He showed a four-seam between 86-88 with plenty of life in the zone. He also showcased another fastball with a sinker profile, with the velocity a tick slower than the four-seam. Robinson was able to work quickly, not getting into deep counts with any opposing hitters.

| |
Kees Yashko OF / 3B / Homeschool, VA / 2027Yashko had a great couple of games in front of our staff between Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, Yashko had two loud extra-base hits, a double down the left field line and a triple to right center field. On Tuesday, Yashko hit two warning track shots, both of which could have been extra base hits if not for the wind knocking them down. Yashko has a tall 6’3”, 195 lb build and a strong hit tool. He’s shown an ability to hit to all fields but also generate power to the pull side. Yashko should be an uncommitted 2027 to keep an eye on.

Cox
| |
Henry Brown 3B / 1B / Frank W Cox High, VA / 2026A dominant performance on the mound, going four innings with 8 K's and easy velocity at 87-89. Had an advanced feel for the slider in any count. Was as dominant on the offensive side, having two hits with three RBI’s. Present strength to all fields that play in game.
|
| |
Tripp Faison C / OF / Frank W. Cox High, VA / 2026Heavy barrel with 2 doubles, one to the pull side and one to the backside. A high-energy guy that is always getting things done. Had three hard barrels on the day. Utility player that can play multiple positions.
|
|
Santiago Gomez SS / C / Frank W. Cox High, VA / 2026Another standout for Cox. He had two hits on the day with a double and a two-RBI single. Fluid actions up the middle as well. Versatile player that shows up on both sides of the ball.

Hayfield
| |
Braden Feaster LHP / 1B / Hayfield Secondary, VA / 2027Feaster was a major contributor in a close one for Hayfield. On the mound, Feaster worked 3.1IP in relief and did not allow an earned run. He mixed a high 70s fastball and a curveball at 65. Feaster worked in the zone from a shorter arm action and kept hitters to soft contact. At the plate, Feaster delivered late with a game-tying double in the 7th.
|
| |
Noah Laster SS / 3B / Hayfield Secondary, VA / 2028Laster competed in a 2.2IP start on Tuesday. Laster started his outing strong, only allowing one baserunner through the first two frames. However, in the 3rd, Laster struggled to find the zone, walking three. In this outing, Laster worked in the high 70s and got up to 82, but in the past our staff has seen Laster maintaining 81-82, touching 84 from a relief role. The secondary mix is still developing for the sophomore, but Laster showed a few curveballs in this outing with some improving feel.

John Champe
| |
Rylan Jordan 3B / SS / John Champe HS, VA / 2027Jordan has consistently shown his large offensive impact in front of our staff. A 6’3”, 215 lb build, he has strong power to the pull side. In his first game in front of our staff this week, he showcased this with a loud double to left center field. In his second game, He showed his patience at the plate by working two walks in his three at bats. It is a simple swing but rotates quickly to generate his power. He should continue to make contributions in the middle of the John Champe lineup and should be an uncommitted junior to watch this season.
|
Langley
| |
Han Davis RHP / Langley High, VA / 2027Davis turned in a stellar performance on Tuesday, striking out twelve in a complete game shutout. Davis did so in 104 pitches, 69 of which were strikes. Davis has a lengthy 6'4", 200 lb frame. He works from a longer arm action and ¾ slot, using his long frame to get down the mound. Davis showed a three-pitch mix with a fastball, splitter, and slider. The fastball showed some arm side run and worked in the zone. Davis’ splitter and slider were really what excelled. Davis could land either pitch for strikes or generate swings and misses late in counts. Overall, a great performance for the uncommitted junior.
|
| |
Rhys Jones LHP / OF / Langley High, VA / 2029The freshman had a good day of at-bats, singling twice and driving in two between two games. Jones showed his strength with a hard hit single off a breaking ball in his first game. In his second game, Jones started on the mound. While the arm is still developing, Jones competed against a talented Centreville offense in 4IP. Jones should be an underclass contributor for a young Langley team this season.
|
| |
Luke Murphy OF / 1B / Langley, VA / 2027Hitting leadoff for the Saxons, Murphy has shown in front of our staff his tablesetting ability. In his first game, Murphy worked two walks and would score after both. In his second game, Murphy hit a double deep to the fence in right field. Murphy stole two bases between the two contests, showing his ability to jump-start the Langley offense.
|
McLean
| |
Carter Jones RHP / OF / Mclean High, VA / 2028Jones put McLean on the board early, clearing the bases with a triple crushed to the fence in left-center field. Jones sat back on the breaking ball and showed off his speed with a quick trip to third. Jones has a strong 6’1”, 200 lb frame and showed the strength he’s added at the NOVA Preseason ID this winter. Jones was only able to get one at bat on the day, but it was a strong one.
|
Monacan
| |
Grayson Morris 3B / RHP / Monacan High, VA / 2027Morris continues to show well in front of our staff at the plate. In his second plate appearance, Morris was aggressive early in the count and absolutely launched a no-doubt home run out of left field. On defense, the actions are smooth and can make the routine play.
|
| |
Braeden Shores RHP / OF / Monacan High, VA / 2026Shores is a tone setter at the top of the lineup for the Chiefs that can get out of the box well. He picked up two hits on the day, one being a double to deep center field. He also got the start for Monacan, working the fastball up to 86 to the glove side.
|
Steward
| |
Daniel Hoctor OF / 2B / Steward School, VA / 2027It is a quiet, balanced setup with a simple and short bat through the zone. Came up clutch for the Spartans by taking an off-speed pitch into RF for a walk-off single.
|
Tabb
| |
Corbin Sims C / OF / Tabb, VA / 2027Had a strong showing at the plate, going 1-2 with a double to LCF. Showed some present arm strength behind the plate.
|
Virginia Episcopal
| |
Jack Mitchell SS / 3B / Virginia Episcopal School, VA / 2027Slightly crouched setup with high preset hands with some bat-to-ball skills. In one plate appearance he smoked a rocket over the head of the third baseman for a single.
|
West Potomac
| |
Grant Williams RHP / OF / West Potomac High, VA / 2028Williams was great in a five inning start for the Wolverines. Williams works from a ¾ slot with a whippy arm. He mixes between two fastballs, a firmer four-seam between 82-84 and a two-seam/sinker a tick slower but with arm-side run. Williams also showcased a strong feel for his curveball, able to land it in the zone for strikes or below the zone for whiffs. Williams worked slower, but efficiently, only needing 64 pitches at 73% strikes in his outing. Overall, a really promising start from the sophomore.
