Mississippi Diamond Notes returns for the 2026 season, spotlighting standout performances from across the state based on nominations submitted by high school coaches. Each Wednesday throughout the season, we will recognize position players, pitchers, and two-way contributors who have earned attention with their on-field performances.

We appreciate the many coaches who took the time to submit nominations this week. 👏

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 7

+ Blake Gill (Pearl River Central HS, PRCC Signee) continued to anchor the lineup with a huge week, going 5-for-9 (.556) with a double, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs, and 7 runs scored while adding 3 stolen bases. A true middle-of-the-order presence, Gill impacted the game in every way and consistently delivered in big spots.

+ Talon Cipriano (Pearl River Central HS) put together a strong and consistent week at the plate, going 5-for-9 (.556) with a double, 2 RBIs, and 5 runs scored. He continues to be a reliable bat that sets the tone offensively and applies pressure with his ability to get on base and produce.

+ Kendall Morrison (Pearl River Central HS, PRCC Commit) filled up the stat sheet, hitting .500 (6-for-12) with a double, a home run, 4 RBIs, 8 runs scored, and 5 stolen bases. His speed, bat, and overall athleticism make him a true catalyst who can change the game in multiple ways.

+ Roman Mitchell (Pearl River Central HS, Southwest Miss Signee) delivered another steady outing on the mound, working 5.1 innings while allowing just 1 run (0 earned) on 5 hits. He showed control and poise, giving his team a strong chance to win.

+ Ayden Radosta (Pearl River Central HS) showed toughness on the mound, going 7 innings while allowing 2 earned runs. Despite giving up some hits, he competed well and kept his team in the game with a solid overall outing.

+ Ty Keys (Poplarville HS) stayed productive at the top of the lineup, going 6-for-12 with 3 RBIs, 4 runs scored, and 3 stolen bases. His ability to get on base and create pressure makes him a key catalyst.

+ Brayden Lee (Poplarville HS) showcased his gap power and on-base ability, going 5-for-9 with a .636 OBP and 3 doubles, consistently finding barrels and putting himself in scoring position.

+ Jett Smith (Poplarville HS) contributed across the board, going 4-for-11 with 4 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases while also picking up a save on the mound, showing his versatility.

+ Aiden Smith (Poplarville HS) was dominant in multiple roles, throwing 5.1 scoreless innings while allowing just 1 hit and striking out 6, earning both a win and a save in a strong showing.

+ Nelson Barthel (2026, Northwest Rankin HS, Jones College recruit) had a massive week at the plate, going 9-for-14 (.643) with 3 home runs—including a grand slam, along with a double, 7 RBIs, and 6 runs scored. His ability to drive the baseball with authority stood out all week.

+ Cole Ellison (Canton Academy) was outstanding as a two-way contributor, going 7-for-11 with 3 doubles, a home run, and 8 RBIs while also dominating on the mound with 5 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7.

+ Cash Johnson (Canton Academy) continued to show why he’s a must-follow young prospect, going 5-for-9 with multiple extra-base hits and 5 RBIs while also logging 5 innings on the mound with 5 strikeouts and just 1 earned run.

+ Myles Stanley (Canton Academy) delivered in a big way offensively, going 7-for-13 with 8 RBIs, consistently producing and driving in runs throughout the week.

+ William Field (Canton Academy) found every way possible to get on base, going 3-for-6 with 2 doubles, 5 RBIs, and a .769 OBP while also taking multiple hit-by-pitches, showing toughness and plate discipline.

+ Tristan Fox (Ocean Springs HS) was dominant on the mound, throwing a complete game one-hit shutout with 5 strikeouts, controlling the game from start to finish with confidence. Fox also made an impact at the plate, going 3-for-7 with a .636 OBP, adding an RBI and 3 stolen bases, showing his all-around ability to contribute.

+ Johan Baez (Ocean Springs HS) picked up a win with 5 strong innings, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 7, showing swing-and-miss ability and command.

+ Patterson Gilfoil (Ocean Springs HS) delivered a solid outing, earning a win with 5 innings of work while allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 5.

+ Peyton Meleady (Ocean Springs HS) impressed in relief, tossing 2 hitless and scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts, showing early promise.

+ Colton French (Ocean Springs HS) was nails out of the bullpen, picking up 2 saves with 2 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit while closing games efficiently.

+ Justin San Miguel (Ocean Springs HS) led the offense with a strong week, going 6-for-10 (.600) with two doubles, 2 RBIs, and a stolen base, consistently putting pressure on opposing defenses.

+ Rylan Stanley (New Site HS) stayed scorching hot at the plate, going 8-for-11 with a double, 5 RBIs, and a stolen base, continuing to show advanced feel for the barrel and run-producing ability at a young age.

+ Rilyn Lambert (New Site HS) turned in a solid week offensively, going 5-for-10 with a double and 2 RBIs, consistently putting together quality at-bats.

+ Jayden Greene (New Site HS) earned Pitcher of the Week consideration after a strong outing, working 6 innings while allowing just 2 earned runs on 4 hits and striking out 8 in a win over Baldwyn.

+ Easton Channell (Pisgah HS) was dominant on the mound, tossing 5 innings while allowing just 1 hit and no earned runs with 5 strikeouts to earn the win over Quitman.

+ Ryder White (Pisgah HS) filled up the stat sheet, going 4-for-9 with a double, a triple, 4 RBIs, 3 runs, and 3 stolen bases, impacting the game in multiple ways.

+ Jackson Carlisle (Pisgah HS) produced a strong week at the plate, going 4-for-9 with a double, 3 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases, showing consistency and speed.

+ Drew Davis (Sumrall HS, Alabama commit, Former Future Gamer) had another dominant all-around week, going 6-for-7 with multiple extra-base hits including a home run while driving in 6 runs and scoring 6 times. He also contributed on the mound with 4 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits with 7 strikeouts.

+ Carson Speed (Sumrall HS) stayed hot offensively, going 6-for-7 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored, consistently producing in big spots.

+ Eli Hicks (Sumrall HS) continued his strong play, going 5-for-8 with multiple hits and 3 RBIs while scoring 3 runs, providing steady production.

+ Parker Hawkins (Sumrall HS) contributed across the board, going 4-for-8 with 3 RBIs and 6 runs scored, showing the ability to get on base and create offense.

+ Tucker Barrett (Sumrall HS) delivered extra-base impact, going 4-for-9 with a home run, 6 RBIs, and 4 runs scored, providing power in the lineup.

+ JD Whitaker (Hamilton HS) stayed productive, hitting .444 on the week with 3 doubles, 4 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 3 walks, continuing to be a key contributor.

+ Paxton Dobbs (Hamilton HS) matched that production, hitting .444 with a double, a triple, 4 RBIs, 2 walks, and a sac fly, showing his ability to drive in runs.

+ Ian Nichols (Hamilton HS) continued his consistent play, hitting .444 with a double, 2 RBIs, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 2 stolen bases, impacting the game in multiple ways.

+ Myles Self (Hamilton HS) added offensive production, collecting 3 hits including 2 doubles with 3 RBIs, 4 runs, and 3 stolen bases, showing speed and gap power.

+ Jaxon Herod (West Union HS) had another monster stretch, going 8-for-13 (.615) with a .737 OBP, adding 2 doubles, a home run, 8 runs scored, 6 walks, 9 stolen bases, and 3 RBIs, doing a little bit of everything.

+ Jon Grey Morrisson (West Union HS) was dominant on both sides, throwing a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts while allowing just 3 hits, and also hitting 5-for-11 with a double, triple, grand slam, 7 RBIs, and multiple times reaching base.

+ Tyson Henry (West Union HS) picked up a win on the mound and stayed hot at the plate, going 7-for-13 with a home run and 7 RBIs, continuing to be a major contributor.

+ Trip Carpenter (Forrest County AHS) turned in an outstanding all-around week, going 5-for-9 at the plate with 5 singles and 3 RBIs while also delivering a dominant performance on the mound. The right-hander fired 7 no-hit innings, allowing no runs with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts, showcasing complete control and soli stuff.

+ Ethan Lawler (Forrest County AHS) had a big week at the plate as the DH, going 5-for-10 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs, providing serious power production and driving in runs in key moments.
